2 Chainz And Migos Are Trading Jabs Over Who Started The ‘Migos Flow’

by 05/08/14

Imitiation is nothing new in hip-hop. From rhymes to fashion to production, styles are often innovated by someone before catching on with a larger group. It’s become a natural cycle.

2 Chainz thinks that’s what happened with what’s been termed the “Migos flow,” where rhymes are delivered with a specific pace and cadence.

“Look at my car, how did it get on dem sixes/ This flow come from Drizzy, he got it from Migos, they got it from Three Six,” the Atlanta MC raps on “Trap Back,” off his recently released Freebase EP.

But that line shouldn’t be taken as a slight, according to Chainz; it’s merely an observation. “There’s a certain delivery that they brought to the game that people started snacking on, that was something that derived from a Memphis flow period,” he told MTV News when asked about the lyric.

That explanation apparently wasn’t enough for the guys from Migos, though, who took to Twitter on Wednesday to fire back, which led to a bit of a back-and-forth:

There haven’t been any words exchanged since earlier this morning, so hopefully this disagreement has been squashed.

Lana Del Rey Promises More Sadness And Vice In Ultraviolence Track List

by 05/08/14

Is it just me, or were you all expecting Lana Del Rey’s upcoming Ultraviolence to reference Anthony Burgess’ “A Clockwork Orange” — since, you know, the term comes from that book? The track list, which dropped Thursday (May 8), however, mentions nary an Alex nor a droog.

So far we’ve only heard one track from the record — at least officially — the moody “West Coast,” for which Del Rey dropped a dreamy black and white video Wednesday.

Judging by the track list, she’ll also be hitting up the East Coast; one of the tracks is called “Brooklyn Baby.”

I’m going by the titles here, but it looks like the record will also be playing with some of the musician’s tried and true themes: money and its vices, sad-eyed lost Lolita girls, and, of course, an aesthetic kind of violence.

Check out the track list for the Dan Auerbach-produced record below:

1. “Cruel World”
2. “Ultraviolence”
3. “Shades Of Cool”
4. “Brooklyn Baby”
5. “West Coast”
6. “Sad Girl”
7. “Pretty When You Cry”
8. “Money Power Glory”
9. “Fucked My Way Up To The Top”
10. “Old Money”
11. “The Other Woman”
12. “Black Beauty” *
13. “Guns And Roses” *
14. “Florida Kilos” *

Rich Homie Quan On Seizures: ‘I’m Not Addicted To Anything, Including Drugs’

by 05/08/14

Tuesday night, while shooting the video for his song “Walk Thru,” Rich Homie Quan suffered two seizures and hit his head. As a result, he was taken to the hospital for treatment.

For the first time since the incident, Quan is speaking out. In a statement on Thursday (May 8), he stressed that it was neither drugs nor lean, but rather exhaustion and heat, that contributed his medical emergency.

“I just want to thank my fans and everyone who has called concerned about me,” the Atlanta rapper said in the statement. “I want to clear up two things, after being in 3 states in 3 days, up early having to shoot my video for ‘Walk Thru’ and even sleeping in between scenes on top of filming in this humid Atlanta heat, I fainted and hit my head. It’s no secret that I do turn up, I don’t deny that but I’m not addicted to anything including drugs nor was I leaning at the shoot. The media is gonna put fake stories out there but I just want to let my fans know that I’m good and recovering. The second thing is, I promised I will never stop going in and I mean that.”

The rapper’s own explanation contradicts a recent report by TMZ — which he seems to subliminally reference — which alleges that the rapper was drinking lean on the day of his seizures.

Quan isn’t the only one saying it was heat and exhausation, rather than drugs, that caused ...

Imagine Dragons Get Pranked Hard By Nico Vega — Oh, How We Laughed

by 05/08/14

If you’re down with Imagine Dragons singer Dan Reynolds’ belt-out-like-damn vocals on “Radioactive,” you’ll be way into Nico Vega singer Aja Volkman’s take on the jam. Really, guys, it’s an eardrum-burster — literally.

Nico Vega, who plan to drop their new record Lead To Light this summer, like to mess around while on tour — especially with long-time friends Imagine Dragons.

Many jokes were made, pranks played — but one, executed by Volkman, stood out in particular. It involves one wily monitor guy, a crowd of thousands and some truly terrible-rific vocals courtesy of Volkman who is, by the way, married to Reynolds.

That’s one way to keep the spark alive.

Vic Mensa Found Out About His XXL Freshman Cover Hours Before It Happened

by 05/08/14

Vic Mensa was excited to be selected for the cover of this year’s XXL Freshman issue, which dropped online earlier this week. So much so, in fact, that the Chicago MC pulled an all-nighter to make it to the mag’s photo shoot.

“I heard the night before they shot it, actually, and then I flew out to New York the next day,” he told MTV News recently, while we visited him on the set of his “Feel That” video. “I was in the studio, making this record called ‘Grand Prix,’ and then I got that call, and then we flew out early in the morning. I didn’t even go to sleep.”

As one of just 12 artists on this year’s cover, the Save Money crew member sounded eager to capitalize on the opportunity. But he was just as enthused — if not more so — that three of his fellow Chicagoans were also selected.

“I’m psyched, ’cause the crib is well represented: It’s four Chicago artists on there, including myself,” he said, referencing Chance the Rapper, Lil Durk and Lil Bibby, as well. “It’s awesome.”

Still, Vic hopes this moment will merely mark an ackowledgement of the music he’s making and the fanbase he’s building.

“It’s a testament to a lot of work, and to what I’m doing,” he said. “At the end of the day, it’s not the accolades and labels and awards that make you or break you. It’s what I do in the studio. It’s that elbow grease when I’m cookin’ ...

‘Arrow’: All The Biggest Moments On ‘Streets Of Fire’

by 05/07/14

It’s the penultimate episode of the totally insane second season of “Arrow,” and it plays more like the first hour of an epic blockbuster movie than just another TV show. Over-the-top action, huge character moments and some incredible cliffhangers just make us more eager for next Wednesday to get here, and soon.

Here are all the biggest moments from “Streets of Fire”:

Deathstroke’s Guitar Army, Minus The Guitars
It’s been promised for weeks, but finally Slade’s army of mini-Deathstrokes attacks Starling City, setting CGI fires wherever they go. And given they’re virtually unkillable strong-men following Slade’s every order — and Slade’s orders are to destroy Starling — that’s bad, bad news.

Justin Timberlake Reveals The NSYNC Song That Almost Featured Michael Jackson

by 05/07/14

Last week, the first single from Michael Jackson’s upcoming album was released online. The track, “Love Never Felt So Good,” featured Justin Timberlake. But JT says that he and the King of Pop nearly first collaborated over a decade ago.

“The first real seed of that was this song I had written, called ‘Gone,’ ” the singer told Oprah Winfrey’s OWN. “It ended up on our third and last album [for *NSYNC]. And it was the first song I kind of cut by myself, and then brought it to the guys and included them. We were having an A&R meeting for the third *NSYNC album at that time, and I said, ‘Well, I have this other song, but I originally wrote it for Michael.’ I originally wrote that song for Michael Jackson.”

Unfortunately for Timberlake, Michael’s people turned the song down. Rather than letting it go to waste, he and his groupmates used it themselves.

And then, once it came out, Michael heard it.

“And he called me on the phone and said that he wanted to cut the record, but he wanted it to be a duet between himself and I,” the “Mirrors” singer recalled. “And I said, ‘It’s already out. We’ve already cut this song as an *NSYNC record.’”

Naturally, he felt a bit of regret.

“I’m on the phone, I’m literally punching myself in the face, because I said, ‘I can’t do that. Could we do an *NSYNC featuring Michael Jackson? Or Michael Jackson featuring *NSYNC?’ And he was very absolute ...

Ludacris And Pitbull Remix ‘Turn Down For What’: Listen

by 05/07/14

For what reason would Lil Jon and DJ Snake turn down when they’ve got a massive hit on their hands? No, there is no reason for which to turn down. And clearly, they don’t plan to anytime soon.

On Wednesday (May 7), the two revamped their collab with a new remix that features verses from Ludacris and Pitbull. This is the second official remix of the song, and follows up Juicy J, 2 Chainz, and French Montana hopping on the track in late April. And don’t forget about Miley’s recent renditions of the single in her Instagram vidoes.

Pit and Luda, both of whom have worked with Lil Jon a number of times throughout their lengthy careers, sound comfortable and cocky on the dance track.

“Ain’t nothin’ in the game that I haven’t seen/ And my favorite color? You guessed it: Money Green,” Pit raps on his verse, which opens the song.

Luda, meanwhile, is ready to party: “Need my dollars in ones and my women in twos,” he spits.

The original peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.
