First Nirvana, Now This — All Of St. Vincent’s Dreams Come True

by 05/07/14

Those “severed crossed fingers” have really paid off for Annie Clark — after years of releasing glowing, yet twisted tunes as St. Vincent, a duo of dreams have been manifest.

First, St. Vincent shredded at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction ceremony, busting out a cover of Nirvana’s “Lithium” with the remaining members in honor of their induction.

Now, she’s primed to play “Saturday Night Live”‘s season finale on May 17, an honor she calls a “dream come true.”

Check out the video below for more of Clark’s thoughts on the experiences.

Oh, bonus! She told us what she will be performing on “SNL” — “Birth In Reverse” and “Digital Witness.” Singing about TV ON TV? How meta.

Watch Jamie Foxx Sing Snippets Of Collabs With Pharrell And DJ Mustard

by 05/07/14

With reporting by Josh Horowitz

Jamie Foxx has been in six movies since he released his last album in 2010, but he plans to get back in the booth for a new album soon — and has actually already started that process.

“I’m working on some music now,” Foxx told MTV News during a press run for “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” which came out May 2 and stars him as one of the leads. “I just did a song with Pharrell called ‘Tease.’”

The two have worked together a handful of times in the past: they were each featured on Twista’s “When I Get You Home (A.I.O.U.),” and the Neptunes-produced LL Cool J’s “Best Dress” and Diddy’s “Partners For Life,” both of which feature Foxx. Plus, Foxx starred in Pharrell’s “Happy” music video a few months back.

That’s not the only powerhouse producer that he’s worked with of late. “DJ Mustard, we got a [song]: ‘Hashtag, better bring that ass back/ Hashtag, better bring that ass back/ Now twerk it,” the 46-year-old revealed, singing the song, rather than describing it.

What else might fans expect from his new music?

Foxx didn’t specifically say that he and Drake have worked on material for the project, nor that they plan to. But there’s certainly a chance that the two follow up “Fall For Your Type,” their collaborative hit from Foxx’s 2010 album Best Night of My Life, based on the praise the actor/singer had for Drizzy.

“Drake is my little brother, man,” he told MTV ...

Big K.R.I.T. Angles For Top In ‘Mt. Olympus’ Video: Watch

by 05/07/14

Based on “Mt. Olympus,” Big K.R.I.T. clearly feels like he doesn’t get the respect or recognition he deserves, and he’s hellbent on changing that.

The visuals for the song dropped on Wednesday (May 7), just over a week after the audio hit the Net. Like the track itself, the video is all about Krizzle and his skills on the mic (and the boards, considering he produced the track, too).

Throughout the video, the Mississippi MC stands in front of either a black or white backdrop, spewing his fiery rhymes to the camera with passion and intent, with minimalist effects used to add to, rather than distract from, his lyrics.

Big K.R.I.T. is currently working on his sophomore album, Cadillactica.

‘Batman Eternal’ Gets Bizarre With Nanotech Swarms And Cyborg Monkeys

by 05/07/14

Every week, MTV News is bringing you a break down of all the big moments in DC Comics’ yearlong Batman comic book “Batman Eternal.”

With the release of the fifth issue today (May 6), we’ve got writer James Tynion IV on tap to talk about whether the growing nanotech infection in Gotham City ties in with fellow weekly series “Future’s End,” how Tim Drake can solve mysteries even Batman can’t, and just what’s going on with that monkey on the last page:

MTV News: Early in the issue there’s these nanotech circuits that show up in Harper’s brother’s eye, and clearly there’s some sort of viral infection afflicting the kids in the Narrows — leading to some crazy man versus machine battles by the end of the issue. What the heck is going on here?

BME5-3

James Tynion IV: These little issues right after the first three, which set up the scope of the entire series… Four, five and six set up the smaller threads that will then run through the core of the entire series.

With the introduction of the nanobots, we’re seeding in one of the other major threats that’s lurking beneath the surface of Gotham City. Something that might escape Batman’s eye while he’s focused on Carmine Falcone, and everything that’s very much on the surface.

It’s the perfect case for Tim Drake to come back into the fold in Gotham City, because this is a detective story, and it plays directly into his mastery of tech and his own ...

So… A Ghost Is Probably Stalking Demi Lovato

by 05/07/14

So it’s entirely possible that Demi Lovato has a stalker. Not the fleshy kind (although I’m guessing she has those, too): the undead kind. As in a ghost. As in a ghost might be following her around. Yeah, I know.

“What proof do you have?” you might ask, narrowing your eyes and looking at your screen askance. Well, firstly there’s the terrifying image that has been making the rounds on Twitter of Lovato — clad in a kicky military-esque jacket — a creepy, grinning face looming over her shoulder.

Secondly, we know for a fact that Lovato believes in the paranormal and, in fact, lives in a haunted house in Texas. She has enlisted ghost hunters and mediums to interact with the spirit, who is an 11-year-old named Emily who enjoys messing with computers and cellphones (much like your average 11-year-old girl).

Thirdly, I asked an expert — namely, Brandon Alvis, founder of the American Paranormal Research Association.

“From my analysis I can’t 100% say that the ‘ghostly face’ is a spirit,” he told MTV News on Wednesday (May 7). “One thing to note is if Demi Lovato is a ghost hunting enthusiast and claims to have a strong connection with the afterlife, it is very possible that a ghost or spirit could be attached to her because of her previous attempts at communicating with the dead.”

Perhaps Emily has decided to take her show on the road? Maybe she’s a Lovatic!

Lana Del Rey Burns Up L.A. In ‘West Coast’ Video: Watch

by 05/07/14

Lana Del Rey goes all sad L.A. screen queen in her new video for “West Coast,” off of her upcoming sophomore record, Ultraviolence.

A continuation of a clip that heralded the release of the single, the mostly black-and-white video features Lana swaying on a beach with a long-haired paramour; languidly lying on the shoulder of a shades-sporting older man in a convertible (perhaps that Humbert Humbert “my old man” from “Off to the Races”?); and, finally, engulfed in flames and a livid red dress, her form superimposed on a highway full of palm trees.

It’s like if David Lynch and Francesca Lia Block got together and dropped acid with a movie camera. Check it below:

How Did 5 Seconds Of Summer Get Their ‘Don’t Stop’ Super Powers?

by 05/07/14

I’m guessing that you don’t need anyone to save you, but it’s nice to know someone has your back, right? What about four someones — a.k.a. the dudes from 5 Seconds Of Summer?

The boys recently put out a flashy, comic book-themed lyric video for “Don’t Stop” in which the band — kitted out like superheroes — save a mysterious red-headed girl.

Well, get this fans: That girl? She’s you.

“She was inspired by the fanbase that the guys have,” director Sophia Ray told MTV News. “We wanted her to signify all of their fans — all the people that they’re serving through this anti-bullying campaign.”

The video ties into the anti-bullying effort the guys launched in support of Ashton Irwin’s sister.

“We thought it was quite a nice, positive touch going down the superhero route,” Ray said, adding that the band picked their own superhero names and powers.

“Calum said he wanted to be ‘CalPal’ because everyone loves Calum and thinks he’s really outgoing and he can sort of charm anyone,” she said.

Luke became Dr. Fluke after doing a science experiment to make the perfect hair gel, which “bonded with his mind and showed him the path to righteousness and how good conquers evil,” Ray said.

Mike morphed into Mike-Ro-Wave when his love of pizza led him to consume a radioactive slice heated in a microwave that Dr. Fluke had tinkered with. “It also aided his video-gaming skills,” Ray added.

Finally, Ashton became SmAsh after saving a ...
