The Big Olicity Kiss On ‘Arrow’ Was Never Part Of The Plan

by 23 mins ago

When “Arrow” returns tonight (October 8) to The CW, you may hear the voices of thousands of ‘shippers cry out, as if all of their dreams had finally come true. That’s right, fans: on the season premiere, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and Felicity Smoake (Emily Bett Rickards) – better known to fans as Olicity – will finally lock lips.

But, as we found out when we talked to “Arrow” Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim over the phone in advance of the premiere, the whole will they/won’t they was never part of the plan:

MTV News: So first of all, congratulations on Blake Lively’s baby, I know you were instrumental in bringing her and Ryan together. That’s got to feel good, right?

Marc Guggenheim: [Laughs] I’m glad there was some sort of follow up to the movie.

MTV: Yeah it’s a sequel. I’m kind of hoping they name the baby Hal…

Guggenheim: That would be awesome! Or Sinestro. One or the other.

MTV: Exactly, there’s your number one baby name this year. So to transition from babies into another romance thing, let’s talk Olicity. The fans are, of course, freaking out about the kiss that’s being teased in the first episode, but was that always part of the plan? Or did that naturally develop from the chemistry that Stephen Amell and Emily Bett Rickards have on the show?

Guggenheim: You know it really just naturally developed. I mean, they have had incredible chemistry ever since season one… Just the way their scenes were playing, it sort ...

Nat Wolff Has A Confession To Make About Cara Delevingne

by 3 mins ago

In the upcoming film “Paper Towns,” Nat Wolff’s character Quentin may be obsessed with Cara Delevingne’s Margo Roth Spiegelman, but, in real life, the actor admits that he didn’t initially know who Delevingne was.

“This is going to sound crazy, because she’s the biggest super star in the world — I had never heard of her,” Wolff told MTV News. “She just came in to audition and she was unbelievable. I think she’s that character. She’s perfect for that role.”

“Paper Towns” is the second John Green novel to become a film — following close on the heels of smash-hit “Fault In Stars” — and pulls together a lot of the same team from that film: Wolff (who played a supporting role in “Fault”), as well as Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, who co-wrote both “Fault” and “The Spectacular Now.” Delevinge’s casting was announced in September, and, although shooting starts soon, only she and Wolff’s roles have been unveiled.

“Paper Towns” picks apart the idea of the “manic pixie dream girl” (a term coined by critic Nathan Rabin, who recently apologized for its existence) — zeroing in on a boy named Quentin’s obsession with free spirit Margo Roth Spiegelman. Former childhood friends, the two occupy separate social spheres until Margo plucks Quentin from smart-boy obscurity to go on a night-long mission of revenge against an ex-boyfriend who cheated and some wayward friends. When tomorrow dawns, however, Margo has disappeared, and Quentin sets out on a quest to ...

Meet Mod Sun, The Newest Member Of Rostrum Records, And Watch His ’1970′ Video

by 5 mins ago

Rostrum Records has already helped artists like Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller reach impressive heights on an independent level, and now they’re hoping to bring another MC to the masses. On Wednesday (October 8), the label announced a partnership with Mod Sun.

The Minnesota native has six mixtapes and three EPs under his belt, with a new album on the way. To celebrate the signing, he also dropped the video for “1970.”

“Health, success and happiness will always be my mantra,” he raps at one point in the new song — and if you aren’t familiar with him yet, that’s a pretty good introduction.

His name stands for “Movement On Dreams Stand Under None.” He dropped a song earlier this year called “Free Love.” One of his mixtapes is called Happy As F–k. He calls his genre of music Hippy Hop (which was also the name of an EP). He published a book called “Did I Ever Wake Up?” And he doesn’t call his fans fans — he calls them friends.

So expect plenty of positive vibes.

“Rostrum thinks the same way I speak on these songs and they know what it’s like to go all out for something you believe in,” the 27-year-old said in a press release. “That’s exactly why this partnership is so divine to me.”

The label’s President, Benjy Grinberg, was equally excited. “Working with Mod is such an amazing experience,” he said. “His energy and creativity are unparalleled, and I can’t wait for everyone to hear the music ...

Facebook To Launch Mystery App That Will Let You Go Anonymous — Kind Of

by 30 mins ago

Get ready, guys: Facebook is about to go anonymous. Kind of.

Yup, just days after Facebook agreed to change its policies requiring users to employ their real names on the site, news that the social network plans to launch a mobile app that will allow us all to go by whatever name we desire hit the scene.

The New York Times has the inside intel on the app, which will allow users to talk inside of Facebook without using their real names. The app is expected to come out in the next few weeks, but details about how it will work are scarce. Perhaps it will utilize Facebook Groups? Or perhaps it will simply be a new chat app, like Messenger? All we have are guesses at the moment.

News of the app comes after Facebook last week apologized to users adversely affected by the site’s “real name” policy, which requires people to use their actual names on Facebook. The policy came under fire these past few weeks when someone decided to report hundreds of accounts as fake, many of which were those of drag queens using their stage names on the social network. This led to a lot of heat from the drag community, as well as LGBTQ users who prefer using names other than those given at birth, according to the Times.

Facebook is working on amending that policy now, first reinstating those shut-down accounts, but how it will handle the chosen name-versus-given name question in the ...

‘The Walking Dead’: See Every Time They’ve Said ‘Carl’

by 4 mins ago

Video by Avaryl Halley

We here at MTV News couldn’t be more excited by the return of AMC’s “The Walking Dead.” Having seen the season premiere (read our spoiler-free thoughts here), pretty much everyone gets an awesome, badass moment… Even the internet’s favorite pudding-eating punching bag, Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs).

And though Carl has gone through a major evolution over the course of five seasons, his dad Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the rest of the post-apocalyptic zombie survivors still have a tendency to worry about his safety, wonder where Carl is, and generally say his name while wondering and worrying. A lot.

So naturally, we put together a supercut of every single time a character says “Carl” on the first four seasons of “The Walking Dead.” Guess who says his name only once? You’ll have to watch to find out.

Writer/Editor at MTV News. You can follow him on Twitter, but not in real life because that would be weird.

Here’s The Surprising Scientific Reason Why Men Are Attracted To Big Butts

by 5 mins ago

Nowadays — if popular music is to be believed — we’re currently “all about that bass”. Prominent posteriors are everywhere on the Billboard charts — Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” ode to big butts, Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” curvy girl “bringing the booty back” anthem, and, of course, Jennifer Lopez and Iggy Azalea’s “Booty” celebration. (Not to mention Beyonce’s always-revered rear.)

Butts are clearly having, well, their biggest moment ever, a fact that evolutionary psychologists like Gordon G. Gallup, Jr. of the University of Albany finds unsurprising. According to Gallup, a man’s attraction to women with bigger butts — see Trainor’s assertion that “boys like a little more booty to hold at night” — is woven into their genes.

Evolution isn’t about survival of the fittest, Gallup told MTV News. It’s about pairing your genes with someone “who has genes that code for health and vitality and fertility.” In some cases, that means all the right junk in all the right places.

“The reason narrow waists and broad hips are so prized — the reason males rate these as being attractive, even though they don’t have any insight into why they do — is two-fold,” he said. “It means, if a woman has a narrow waist, she’s not pregnant. And if she has broad hips it means that the underlying skeletal morphology is probably such that she’d be able to have a relatively unencumbered childbirth.”

Here’s How New Horror Comic ‘Wytches’ Was Inspired By ‘Frozen’

by 14 mins ago

“Wytches” is the most terrifying comic you’ve ever read, you just don’t know it yet. The Image Comics book by former “Batman” collaborators Scott Snyder (writing) and Jock (art) twists traditional witch folklore into something new and terrifying. Think “Blair Witch Project,” but with actual payoff and way more teeth scattered on the ground, and you’ve got the idea.

The first issue hits stores today (October 8), and in advance of the release we talked with Snyder about the book, how it (sort of) was inspired by “Frozen,” possible movie/TV plans — and why once you read the book, you’ll never go into the woods again.

WYTCHES#4coverBhiImage Comics

MTV News: Let’s talk a little bit about where this idea came from… Was there a piece of lore you read? Was there some particular thing, or was it just the idea of kind of starting from the ground up with witches and reinventing them?

Scott Snyder: It was more personal. I mean my folks, they’ve had this place right over the border in Pennsylvania since I was about five or six, and I used to go. First of all, I was afraid. I got Pennsylvania confused with Transylvania as a child, so I was constantly terrified to go there because I thought there were vampires all over the place.

As I got older, we realized that one of the neighbors had a kid my age, and the two of us, when we turned nine, 10, 11, started going walking or ...

What Ban? Richard Sherman Wears Beats By Dre Headphones During Monday Night Football

by 2 mins ago

It recently announced that, the NFL announced that it was banning players from wearing Beats by Dre headphones during televised warm-ups, games and post-game interviews. Richard Sherman didn’t seem too concerned with the rule change on Monday night, though.

The Seattle Seahawks cornerback was spotted rocking his Beats on camera a couple of times during the pre-game telecast on ESPN, including walking in the tunnel and while on the field. The shots were captured by BroBible and The Big Lead, respectively.

The Compton native is endorsed Beats — and even had a commercial earlier this year, which you can watch below, and created a playlist for Beats Music — but the NFL’s ban overrides any individual deals, according to Mashable.

Observing Sherm’s attitude and the way that he carries, himself, though, something tells me he may eat whatever fine comes along rather than switching things up.

Beyonce Is Feminism, According To Aziz Ansari

by 35 mins ago

Not only is Beyoncé kind of a champion for feminism, she’s also, apparently, part of the definition of the word — at least for “Parks and Recreation” star Aziz Ansari. And we tend to agree.

Ansari sat down with David Letterman on “The Late Show” Monday night where he spoke about some people’s reticence to call themselves feminists because “people think ‘feminist’ means some woman’s going to start yelling at them.”

According to Ansari, though — and most rational human beings — “feminism” is just a call to treat men and women equally, an idea he explained by way of Beyoncé and husband Jay Z’s joint On The Run Tour.

“You’re a feminist if you go to a Jay Z and Beyoncé concert and you’re not like, ‘I feel like Beyonce should get like 23% less money than Jay Z,” Ansari said. “‘Also I don’t think Beyoncé should have the right to vote and why is Beyoncé singing and dancing — shouldn’t she make Jay a steak? I’m sure he’s very tired after walking and rapping those two songs.’”

Whip that one out next time someone starts talking about how they’re not a feminist because they don’t hate men.
