Young Money Is Getting Sued By Another Producer

by 28 mins ago

Not again.

Young Money is reportedly getting sued for allegedly not paying a producer, according to TMZ.

REO, who produced Lil Wayne’s 2011 hit “Mirror,” featuring Bruno Mars, is claiming in a lawsuit that he’s owed $91,000 by the label for his work on the song. The single, which was a bonus track on Tha Carter IV, went platinum in the U.S. and hit #1 on the Billboard Rap Songs chart.

The track almost didn’t even end up in Wayne’s hands, though.

“Kanye heard it, Drake heard it, and it already had the Bruno [hook],” REO told MTV News in 2011. “Basically, Nas had it for a while, and it just ended up in the hands of Wayne and he loved it.”

“It’s to the point that they record so many songs over the time period that they’re making the album, so you just hope to God that your song resonates with everybody that has to ‘Yes’ it.”

Weezy’s previous album, Tha Carter III, also landed the label in some hot water with producers. Deezle, who co-produced “Lollipop,” sued for $20 million for royalties for his work on the album; they later settled out of court. Drew and Infamous, known for their work producing Tunechi’s “Mr. Carter,” featuring Jay Z, filed separate suits in 2012 claiming that they were owed royalties.

A representative for the label would not comment on the matter.

Wayne’s new album, Tha Carter V, is due out October 28.

Nat & Alex Wolff Wrote A Song About Hating Cats (But We Love Them Anyway)

by 33 mins ago

If you break Nat and/or Alex Wolff’s heart, you might end up in a song — especially if you speak ill of canines.

After the brothers premiered their new jams, “Where I’m Goin’” and “Rock Star,” on MTV News on Monday (October 6) — and executed an awesome @MTV Twitter takeover — the boys told us a little bit about the stories behind the songs. And one of those stories, like many we hold dear, involves furred beasts.

While Alex said that it’s not exactly clear what “Where I’m Goin’” is about, he did admit that it was about a specific girl — one who enjoyed felines and owned a sweater with shoulder pads and whiskey stains all over it.

“I’ve never really been a big fan of cats — I love dogs,” Alex told MTV News, when we brought up the subject of the Internet’s favorite animal. “But this girl that I basically wrote the song about loved cats and didn’t like dogs and then after she broke my heart I wrote the song… saying that I don’t like cats or her.”

Aw, don’t take it out on the purring ones, Alex! Just look at this majestic beast…

Lorde Wears Overalls, Hugs This Majorly Lucky Girl

by 12 mins ago

Remember that little girl who thought she was going to the water park but, instead, was on her way to see Lorde? Yeah, we thought she had the best day ever at the time, but now that title has been usurped — by… her?

“How?” you might ask, your fists clenched at your sides and veins popping from your forehead. “What could possibly be better than taking in a performance by LORDE?! Oh! she of purple lips and dark, dark dreams?!”

Well, I would say meeting Lorde trumps just seeing Lorde any day — and that’s exactly what 12-year-old Alexis J. got to do. Did you pass out from jealousy yet? We’ll give you a second to procure smelling salts.

“So, they met last night and it was a beautiful thing,” Lorde’s rep posted to Instagram. “This is that little 12-year-old from Atlanta whose parents surprised her with Lorde tickets a few weeks back. What a smart little girl, 12 and already has a book published! ‘Bailey and the Bully’ by Alexis J. It’s moments like this that make it all worthwhile #GIRLPOWER.”

If you recall, Lorde tweeted a video last month in which Alexis learns that her parents bought her tickets to the 17-year-old “Royals” singer’s show. Alexis, hilariously, had believed herself to be on the way to some sort of theme park — and was only slightly disappointed when she learned the truth. Mostly, she was pretty stoked.

Well, it seems the stoke-a-bility factor was upped Monday night. Look at ...

Wale’s The Album About Nothing May Not Please Everyone, But It’s ‘For The Core’

by 46 mins ago

After warming us up with the excellent trailer for The Album About Nothing, Wale has us even more excited for his new disc with the second episode of his vlog series.

Splicing together clips from recent radio interviews with in-studio and concert footage, Ralph gives fans a brief glimpse into his process and what they can expect in the future — all soundtracked by “The Followers,” his potent track from this past summer.

“I can’t say the people; I gotta say the core,” he says during one interview stop when discussing the upcoming project. “Ambition was for the people; The Gifted was for me; this is for the core. This is A&Red by my fans.”

That fits with what he told MTV News in April, when he dropped a few details about the project.

“I’ve spent some good time with Jerry [Seinfeld] and we’re gonna keep building on it,” he said (Seinfeld, by the way, appears in the new vlog). “I wanna make it super incredible and super honest and I’m really putting the fans first on this one. With The Gifted, I [did] things musically and sonically that I felt I wanted to do for myself, but this one is solely for the fans and solely for the people who made me who I am.”

He delved deeper into that mindset and process in an Instagram post early Monday (October 6), where he explained the video and where he’s at musically and mentally.

Remember That Drake And Wu-Tang Remix? Here’s What Happened To It

by 1 hour ago

A Drake and Wu-Tang Clan collaboration seemed inevitable when Drizzy dropped “Wu-Tang Forever,” a track off of last year’s Nothing Was The Same. And for a while, it looked like the Shaolin squad were set to appear on the remix, but it never materialized.

“We had got the call, and said, ‘Yo, let’s take a session in the studio and see if we can go in for the young brother,’” RZA told MTV News, saying that they were on tour in Europe when they recorded their parts.

“When I talked to him, he wanted, I think, me and Rae to go in, but for whatever reasons it never happened,” Ghostface added, providing little clarity on the situation.

But U-God’s take — that the content of their rhymes didn’t fit with his — could provide the explanation.

“I guess we came too hard for him; he wanted us to talk about broads,” he said. “We had to write it real fast. No lie, I probably had about six hours to write this thing. At the time, I wasn’t feeling woman-y — I was feeling hard as nails. So, I wrote him a hard as nail rhyme, and we was talking about something totally different, so the subject matter didn’t really mesh.”

Last year, during an episode of “RapFix Live,” Cappadonna said that the team was mostly finished recording their verses.

“Meth did lay a joint, but then he didn’t want to do that one, so he took that ...

Charli XCX Goes All Ramones For Her New Single: Listen

by 3 mins ago

Ever wondered what The Ramones would sound like if they were (all) alive today and also female? Wonder no longer, as Charli XCX is out with a new single off of her upcoming LP Sucker, and it’s what she calls “future Ramones.”

“London Queen,” which premiered Monday (October 6) on Rolling Stone, definitely has shades of the Ramones’ “Beat On The Brat” — just listen to that driving beat and the cadence of the lyric in which Charli spits “with a baseball bat” (a line also found in the Ramones classic). And then there’s all those “oi!”s.

The old-school punk rock vibe comes as no surprise, as Charli has said that her upcoming album was influenced by that genre. Still, the “Boom Clap” singer asserts her role in the new wave of female alt-poppers in the chorus of the jam, produced by Sky Ferreira collaborator Justin Raisen: “I never thought I’d be living in the USA/ Doing things the American way/ I never thought I’d be living in the USA/ Living the dream like a London queen.”

Reign on, lady! Sucker drops December 16 — but you can get more Charli below via her performance of “Break The Rules” today on “Big Morning Buzz Live.”

Beyonce And Nicki Minaj’s ‘Flawless (Remix)’ Video Is…Flawless

by 17 mins ago

If you’ve been agonizing during the last month over the fact that you missed Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj perform their “Flawless (Remix)” live in September, today, you can start to feel better.

On Monday (October 6), the leading ladies dropped a video for their recent collab, which features footage from their On The Run Tour performance in Paris. Bey starts off by being normally “Flawless,” singing the lyrics to the hook from her self-titled album favorite. Then, she ups the ante.

“Can I do something cool for y’all? Special?” she asks, before launching into the remix — including the memorable lyric, “Of course sometimes sh– go down/ When it’s a billion dollars on an elevator.”

Soon, Nicki joins for her own flawless verse, where she celebrates “the Queen of Rap slayin’ with Queen Bey.” Nearby, Bey dances flawlessly. Later, they stand side-by-side wearing flawlessly bright outfits.

And all in the world was flawless.

Here’s How Someone Much Smarter Than You Found Childish Gambino’s Secret ’3005′ Remix

by 12 mins ago

In December, when Childish Gambino released a 72-page screenplay based around the music from his album, Because the Internet, he mentioned a secret track. Now, almost a year later, the track is here — thanks to some diligent digging by his fans.

The last track on his KAUAI EP, which dropped over the weekend, was an instrumental called “3005 (Beach Picnic Version).” On Twitter, Donald told his fans — who he knew had been feverishly trying to find the secret track for months — this would help them on their quest.

“[PLAY SECRET TRACK 9 1/2 [CODED] NOW],” the script read. The ninth song on the album was “3005,” — so it’s actually not surprising that track 9 1/2 is a remix.

How it was found was pretty impressive, though.

One Reddit user was able to piece together some coding from the script to find an a capella and then laid the vocals over the KAUAI instrumental.

“People keep asking how I found it, so I’ll try and explain,” user peepsie112 wrote. “new audioObject(“30059″,”12zzQ809″,234) is a line of code used to play 3005 on the because the internet script, “12zzQ809″ is the song id or file name, so instead of using “12zzQ809″, I just replaced it with lemongrab because above the secret track section it says “[LEMONGRAB: UNNACCEPTABLE!]“, nothing too special really.”

If that makes your brain hurt, just listen to the song below.
