Ellen DeGeneres Loves Herself And Kendrick Lamar — Watch Her Break It Down To ‘i’

by 1 hour ago

This was probably bound to happen.

Kendrick Lamar’s new single, “i,” is so upbeat and so feel good that of course people would dance around, blasting the track, as its chorus of “I love myself!” repeats.

Listen — maybe I’ve done it already. You probably have, too. And we know who else has: Ellen DeGeneres.

On “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Thursday (October 2), the host rocked out to K. Dot’s latest single, which dropped last week. Dancing up and down the aisles with her middle-aged studio audience jamming along, Ellen sure seemed to love Compton rapper’s latest.

Maybe this was her way of paying the good kid, m.A.A.d city rapper back for nominating her for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge last month.

Ellen’s really had her dancing shoes on recently. Earlier this month, she released her own version of Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” video.

As for K. Dot, he’s hard at work on his upcoming sophomore album.

“What Kendrick is doing, and what he’s about to do — he’s an artist, he has a vision in mind,” Rahki, who produced “i,” told MTV News this week. “There’s nothing like that record on radio right now.”

“He’s a genius,” he added. “What he’s doing is really gonna change up a lot. The album is incredible.”

This Super Bowl Winning Quarterback Wants To Take On Domestic Violence With His New Foundation

by 2 hours ago

Following the rash of the recent domestic violence scandals that have involved the NFL, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson had a few things to say about bullying and domestic violence.

In a moving, here” target=”_blank”>lengthy essay for The Players’ Tribune — a site dedicated to letting athletes sounds off on important issues — Wilson broached the difficult subject. But first, he got candid about his own shortcoming and failures: Wilson used to be a bully himself.

Instead of trying to hide his past, Wilson kicks off the piece with this candid revelation:

I used to beat people up. Truthfully, I used to beat people up a lot. Many of you readers probably think I have been Mr. Goody Two-Shoes my whole life, but honestly, I was a bully growing up. In elementary and middle school, I threw kids against the wall. I rubbed their heads in the dirt at recess. I bit them. I even knocked teeth out.

Related: It’s Time For A Productive Discussion About Domestic Violence

Thankfully, he says he found a way to manage his anger, and channel it into the aggressive game that has now become his career. He knows he’s someone involved in a field that includes a lot of aggression, and Wilson is asking broad questions in his piece:

How do you fix a problem so big and complex? How do you speak about something so damaging and painful to families?

Surely, no one can answer these all ...

Lady Gaga Hates Pants: Here Are 21 Photos That Prove It

by 32 mins ago

Lady Gaga likes a lot of things in this slowly dying world of ours: jazz, Tony Bennett, her puppy, applause — the list goes on. One thing that she does not like, however, is pants. The lady hates the very concept of sheathing her legs in two tubes of fabric, you know?

We’ve compiled an extensive — although far from comprehensive — list of 21 times Gaga has been sans trousers of late. Bask in her pantsless glory below.

1.) Who needs pants when you have an awesome biker jacket?

2.) Just chilling with some kids — sans trousers (but definitely not sans rad boots).

3.) Who needs pants when you’re sporting this much metal? Not Gaga!

Lady Gaga Night Out In Tokyo

4.) Does this netted thing count as pants? We’re going to say no.

5.) Rad tail! No pants, though.

6.) Gaga is basically ‘cheek to cheek’ with this piano…

7.) It’s cool, Aphrodite didn’t wear slacks, either.

8.) I mean, she came from the oceans and whatnot.

9.) Dance-off, pants off!

10.) ‘Where did my pants go?’

11.) ‘I shall distract them from my lack of trou with this glorious keyboard.’

Is Nas Dropping His New Single Tomorrow?

by 27 mins ago

Nas hinted on his remix of Schoolboy Q’s “Studio” that some new music from him was imminent: “Finished up my new album, single ’bout to be dropping/ Last album on Def Jam and I got so many options,” he rapped.

Ok. It’s ’bout to be dropping when, though?

“Real soon,” he told Angie Martinez during a Power 105.1 interview on Wednesday (October 1). “Maybe sooner than next week. Maybe tomorrow.”

Well, then. Alright. I’m certainly ready.

He’s so focused on the new music — and, more so, on the present — that he says he won’t even listen to one of his most well-known songs: “Ether.” Of course, that record, from Esco’s 2001 album, Stillmatic, aggressively went after Jay Z during a time when the two New York greats were vying for the city’s crown. But they’ve long since made up, which Nas says is one of the reasons why he hasn’t listened to the track recently.

“I haven’t heard that thing in — I don’t listen to that,” he said. “That, or the other thing [Jay Z's 'Takeover']. He knows that. I told him I can’t listen to that stuff. It’s great times, but that was then.”

“We chilling. We so good right now. That’s my dog. That was a different time. Everything is too good right now. It’s right. History is history. But it’s love.”

He’s not all the way over the past, though. Just this week, “Time Is Illmatic,” a documentary about the Queensbridge rapper and his ...

Action Bronson’s New Orleans Eating Tour Will Make You Jealous And Hungry

by 9 mins ago

Warning: Do not watch the following if you’re currently hungry or aren’t prepared to be hungry 24 minutes from now. Because i the latest episode of his Munchies web series, “F–k, That’s Delicious,” Action Bronson heads to one of the food capitals of the country: New Orleans. And, wow, does what he eats look delicious.

First, the Queens native heads to Coquette, in Uptown, where he proclaims, “Fruit and fried things just go well together,” after chomping on some fried chicken with watermelon hot sauce. Yup, that sounds about right. He washes that down with a sandwich packed with 24-hour cooked hanger steak, sliced thin with onion rings, pickles and horseradish, which, understandably, Bam Bam labels as “divine.” He then washes that down with a sandwich filled with 8-hour smoked pastrami, fatty brisket, two year aged cheese, pickles and cole slaw.

Next was Mimi’s in the Marigny, which he proclaims is “the best recommendation I’ve ever been given.” It looks like he orders about half the menu, including escargot, which he renames the “clam of the earth.”

Bronsalino then hits up Willie Mae’s Scotch House, in Treme, for what appeared to be mouth-watering fried chicken: “It’s like big pieces of chicken popcorn — but not popcorn chicken.”

To round out the exquisite, delectable snacking tour, Bronson stops by Toups’ Meatery in Mid-City. He kicks it with the chef in the kitchen to watch his dish — lamb neck with black-eyed pea salad — get prepared.

Four hours later, the meat came out ...

The Childish Gambino And Chance The Rapper EP Is On Hold

by 20 mins ago

It felt a little too good to be true, and maybe it was: It looks like the collaborative EP between Childish Gambino and Chance the Rapper won’t be dropping any time soon.

“We’re both really busy,” Gambino said when asked about the project by Complex. “Chance is kind of doing his own thing with the college tour and everything. Right now, it just doesn’t feel like the time. Plus, we’re in two different spaces.”

That doesn’t mean we won’t be getting new music from Donald Glover soon, though. The Georgia native has a new mixtape with DJ Drama, STN MNTN/ KAUAI, plus an EP on the way.

“It’s a Gangsta Grillz mixtape that goes into an EP,” he explained. “The Gangsta Grillz mixtape is sort of like — it’s a dream. And the dream ends when I wake up in Kauai. And they go into each other — it’s one complete project. You can download the mixtape, and you can go buy the EP. The money from the EP goes to help with keeping Kauai clean, and also helps with getting audio and visual device for cops policy.”

Earlier this month, he released the singing-heavy “Sober (rough),” which appears to be off of the tape.

The Word ‘Redskins’ Could Be Banned From Radio And TV

by 16 mins ago

Finally, we’re making some progress here: The FCC is considering banning the word “redskins” from TV and radio, following a petition they received from legal activist John Banzhaf III.

“We’ll be looking at that petition, we will be dealing with that issue on the merits and we’ll be responding accordingly,” FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler said, according to Jezebel. The petition penned by Banzhaf sought to shirk a D.C. radio station of its broadcasting license for its use of the word when referring to the Washington sports team.

“There are a lot of names and descriptions that were used over time that are inappropriate today,” Wheeler added. “And I think the name that is attributed to the Washington football club is one of those.”

If the ban goes through, it could spell fines and other penalties for stations that continue to use the word.

Chatter surrounding the use of the word “redskin” reached a tipping point this summer, when the United States Patent and Trademark Office canceled six federal trademark registrations for the Washington Redskins because the team name is “disparaging to Native Americans.” The definition of the word is even being tweaked in the dictionary to highlight its offensiveness as well.

Despite such moves, however, many still refuse to throw out the word — and the team name. “The Daily Show” recently featured a controversial segment in which a group of native people and a cadre of Redskins fans came face-to-face to discuss the team name, and team owner ...

Rittz’s Grandma Told Him He ‘Always Wanted To Be Black’ And That Led To His Song ‘White Rapper’

by 17 mins ago

Looking at Rittz, there are probably three things you’ll notice immediately: His extremely long, bushy hair; his beard; and his skin color. One of those visual markers in particular — his race — has become especially notable given his chosen profession: Rapper.

“I’m allowed to rap about it, because it’s something I deal with,” Rittz told MTV News, explaining why he wrote the song “White Rapper,” which appears on his album Next to Nothing, which dropped in September. But his major concern when dealing with that issue isn’t critics, fans or others in the industry.

“There are a lot of things I deal with in my personal life,” he explained. “I did the BET Hip-Hop Awards and I had my grandma watch it. My grandma stayed up late to watch these awards; she doesn’t listen to rap. I don’t blame her for not understanding — but I’m on the BET Awards, you can watch me on your TV, I finally made it grandma, look! [The next day], I said, ‘Did you watch it on TV last night grandma?’ She said, ‘Yeah, I watched it. It was good.’ And she said, ‘You always wanted to be black.’”

Of course, that wasn’t the response he was expecting or hoping for, riding high from a career highlight to that point.

“Sh-t like that pisses me off,” the Georgia native admits. “It’s like, Damn, that’s all you got from that? So, a lot of the white rapper stuff comes from other white people. A girlfriend’s ...

A Hush Falls On Gotham In ‘Batman Eternal #26′

by 10 mins ago

Each week, MTV News is breaking down the big moments in DC Comics’ “Batman Eternal,” the weekly series that is redefining Gotham City as we know it.

This week, we chatted with writer James Tynion IV about how the real life events in Ferguson may – or may not – have influenced the issue:

MTV News: Obviously given the way they’ve been talking this issue, the Bat-family may be physically together but they’re not emotionally on the same page, at all. What needs to happen for them to join together again, completely?

BMETRL_26_2DC Comics

James Tynion IV: The key thing is trust, which is something Bruce has never been all that great at instilling in his proteges. They know they need to come together, but each of them have their own agendas, things they’re playing close to their vest.

If there’s one thing that ties together the whole Bat-Family, it’s a dogged self-reliance… They all have mysteries and problems in front of them, and each of them want to be the ones who solve it themselves. That includes Bruce. They’re starting to see that all of this is bigger than each of them separately, and starting to understand that they’ll need to stand together to take it down.

But recognizing a problem and working to overcome it are two very separate things, and this story is FAR from over.

MTV: Batman says “It’s been Hush all along,” but HAS it been? Is there something else Batman isn’t seeing?

Tynion: Batman has good reason ...
