Calvin Harris Reveals The Release Date Of His Fourth Album

by 1 min ago

Summer’s gone, and Calvin Harris announced that he will release his fourth album Motion when the leaves are already brown: November 4.

The follow-up to the electronic music producer/singer-songwriter’s 18 Months drops two years (or 24 months) later. He teased to the news on Wednesday:

Harris’ schedule has been hectic the past couple of weeks with touring, hanging out with models in his music video for his song “Blame” featuring John Newman and joining the roster for an epic music festival in the Bermuda Triangle on Halloween weekend.

Crossing my fingers that he doesn’t mysteriously disappear while dropping bass lines in the tropical locale. It would be shame if he missed out on his album release.

Kendrick Lamar Hints At A Release Date For His New Album

by 1 min ago

When Kendrick Lamar released his new song, “i,” on Tuesday, it felt like a promising sign that we’d see his sophomore album sooner rather than later. The song was the first solo single that he had released since his 2012 debut, good kid, m.A.A.d city, and it seemed to signal that his new project would drop before the end of the year — and it might.

“I’m hoping to push it out before 2015,” K. Dot told Carson Daly during an interview on 97.1 AMP Radio. “I’m gonna say that. I’m working hard in the studio.”

Not the most revealing tidbit, but, hey, it’s more detail than we’ve gotten so far. Unless you count that promise from TDE’s CEO that the label has plans to drop six albums in 2014. (With four already out and Kendrick apparently on the way, there’s actually a chance that might happen — as long as we get Jay Rock’s album before 2015, too).

As for “i,” the Compton native says that it sounds unlike anything else you’ll hear on rap radio these days for a reason.

“When I go into creating an album or any type of song, I usually cut off everything from the radio because you can easily be influenced from songs that you like, songs that you may not like,” he said. “So I said, ‘I’m gonna go in the studio and I’m going to do what I feel organically without being confined to industry standards or what ...

Is Chief Keef Taking A Shot At Bobby Shmurda On His New Song?

by 25 mins ago

Since Bobby Shmurda emerged this summer, many fans and critics have compared his sound and aesthetic to Chief Keef’s. And some of the comparisons certainly make sense — they’re both young, exude an aggressive energy and they’ve both shown the ability to make a catchy song. But on Keef’s latest release, it sounds like he may be taking a shot at the 20 year old and his crew.

“I still’ll come and rob you for your kilo/ And you know you ain’t catch no body ’bout a week ago,” the Chicago native raps on “Beetlejuice,” which dropped on Wednesday (September 24). The line is a flip on one of the more popular lyrics from Shmurda’s breakout, “Hot N—a,” where he raps: “Mitch caught a body ’bout a week ago, week ago.”

Earlier this month, 50 Cent said the Brooklyn-bred newbie reminded him of Keef. “It’s hard for me not to like it, because it reminds me of Chief Keef,” Fif said in an interview with Hot 97. “It feels like the Drill music that they made. It’s the same energy. It’s a New York version of it.”

Hopefully, Keef and Bobby can hash things out before this goes any further.

Even Golfers Are Doing The Shmoney Dance Now

by 19 mins ago

I wonder if Bobby Shmurda and co. ever imagined that the Shmoney Dance they created in the streets of Brooklyn would one day make its way onto a golf course. For some reason, I doubt it. But it has.

The U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team is competing against Europe this week, and after their 16-to-8 victory on Tuesday (September 23), it was Shmoney Dance time for the youngsters (to the sounds of Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora’s “Black Widow,” of course).

Another video, featuring team members Brad Dalke, Davis Riley and Sam Burns, calls it their “birdie dance” in the YouTube description and title.

The team must have been sinking a lot of birdies, because an announcer from the Golf Channel asked one of the players: “What did you invent in the past few days that has taken off with this team?”

A few players also changed the spelling on Twitter to #schmoney, but maybe that’s because the tournament was held in Scotland?

A number of athletes have already Shmoney Danced over the last few weeks, from Team U.S.A. after their FIBA victory to NFL players celebrating touchdowns.

We can probably expect more to come.

Asher Roth Completes RetroHash Journey With ‘Pull It’ Video

by 20 mins ago

Asher Roth has created a particular aesthetic with his recent RetroHash videos, with pulsating lights and colors guiding the way for visuals that have a bit of a nostalgic feel. With his latest clip, “Pull It,” which dropped on Wednesday (September 24), Ash continued the trend.

“‘Pull It’ is the third and final chapter in the ‘RetroHash’ journey,” the rapper wrote in the description of the video on YouTube. ‘Following ‘Parties at the Disco’ (escape) and ‘Last of the Flohicans’ (ego death), ‘Pull It’ represents the transformation.”

During the video, there are times when the Pennsylvania native gets up close with the camera, and others where things look a bit more murky and clouded. Throughout, though, you’ll be nodding your head, and afterwards, probably want to go check out the first two.

In case you missed it, here’s “Parties At The Disco” featuring ZZ Ward.

And here’s “Last Of The Flohicans” featuring Major Myjah.

Lorde Just Made This Girl’s Life

by 30 mins ago

We hate to tell you this, guys, but no matter what happened to you today — your crush told you s/he feels the same way, you won something from one of those claw machines, you cured cancer — there’s no way you had a better day than a 12 year old named Amanda.

Nope. No way. No how. Your life looks like a grey road leading to nowhere, the sucking fogs of forgotten time lapping at the edges, when compared to Miss @LongLiveLorde’s. Can you guess where this is going from her Twitter handle?

Yup, not only did Amanda’s parents surprise her with Lorde tickets — and film the whole thing, because #2014 — Lorde herself RT’d the video, writing: “just got sent this and i am teary– COOLEST GIRL EVER.”

Amanda reacted the way we all would have in this case: by sending out a barrage of borderline speaking-in-tongues tweets. Here’s our favorite.

Eff schoole, am I right? Lorde thinks this girl is the coolest — and after watching the video in question, we have to agree. We won’t give too much away, save for this choice quote: “So we’re not going to the water park?” Classic.

Lena Dunham Says Not Voting Is ‘Embarrassing’

by 35 mins ago

Lena Dunham has kind of a big secret: She didn’t always vote. I know. I was shocked, too. Ms. Dunham, she who penned this quote…

girls-voice-of-my-generation

… wasn’t always using said “voice.”

“I didn’t always vote. And that’s embarrassing, more embarrassing than being naked on TV or being told you look like a ‘baby giraffe’ when you walk in heels at awards shows,” Dunham wrote in a recent article on a Planned Parenthood blog in celebration of National Voter Registration Day.

“I didn’t vote for a lot of reasons: because I thought our mothers had already handled feminism. Because I live in New York City where, I was told, it was all Democrats anyway. But mostly because I didn’t feel my voice mattered,” she added.

Obviously, Dunham changed her tune, as evidenced by this slightly racy video she made in support of now-President Obama in 2012.

And now, she’s hoping she can convince others — perhaps little Lenas of the present? — to register as well, laying out her top reasons for taking the plunge. Those reasons are: 1.) It makes you feel good. 2.) Every vote is equal (you and Bey ARE THE SAME). 3.) Those candidates and incumbents running for office could control your sex life (in ways that are decidedly not fun). 4.) There are a lot of people out there who are anti-women’s health. 5.) Voting leads to doing greater things.

You can read Lena’s whole list here — she says ...

‘Batman Eternal #25′: The One Where The Bad Guys Win

by 27 mins ago

Each week, MTV News is breaking down the big moments in DC Comics’ “Batman Eternal,” the weekly series that is redefining Gotham City as we know it.

This week, we chatted with writer James Tynion IV about how the bad guys finally win – and how that also brings the Bat-family back together:

MTV News: Let’s start off with the first page… Vicki essentially gets bullied by Jason Bard into publishing an inflammatory story. Is she starting to suspect something is wrong with Bard?

BMETRL_25_1DC Comics

James Tynion IV: She’s definitely starting to realize there’s something off about Jason Bard, and that’s something that’s going to unfold in the weeks to come. It’s very clear that right now, she has access to these bigger stories than she’s had before, and she’s eager to take part in them to that extent – but she doesn’t like the idea that she’s being manipulated.

Vicki’s story is far from done here.

MTV: There’s a fun scene following that with Harper and Red Robin. You’ve got the classic, girl throws boy, boy ties girl up with thing on his chest.

BMETRL_25_5DC Comics

Tynion: [Laughs] Classic moment.

MTV: I am misreading things here? Is there something flirty going on?

Tynion: There’s definitely a bit of tension there, and that’s definitely something we want to explore. But Harper also has very clear desires of what she wants to be, and ultimately her path towards becoming something more than just an ordinary person matters to her more than a ...

Stream Jon Bellion’s New Album, The Definition

by 25 mins ago

Over the last few weeks, Jon Bellion has been dropping a stream of impressive videos, like “Simple And Sweet,” “Carry Your Throne” and “Luxury,” and on Tuesday (September 23), he finally released the project that those stunning clips have been building momentum for.

The Definition is his first release of the year, following 2013′s The Separation, and it was made available as a free download.

In addition to the previously released cuts, the 11-track album sees the up-and-comer displaying a dizzying array of talents: He wrote and produced all but one song and sings throughout — he even drops a few bars.

There are songs like “Human,” where Bellion tackles the sort of existential questions that he and many other 23 year olds — as well as people far older — continuously wrestle with. On top of that, there are cuts about relationships, like “Run Wild” and “Simple and Sweet,” and plenty more.

You can stream the project below, download it at his official site, and catch Jon Bellion on tour starting this October.
