Get Up Close With The Drake Vs. Lil Wayne Tour In The ‘Grindin’ Video

by 17 mins ago

Lil Wayne and Drake have been on the road on their joint tour for over a month now, and they’ve probably spent a bunch of time hanging out, maybe skateboarding, and hopefully recording music. We now also know one of the other things they used that time for: Shooting a music video.

Their new “Grindin” visuals, which dropped on Friday (September 19), follow the two rap stars on stage and backstage during the Drake Vs. Lil Wayne Tour, which kicked off in early August.

The Scoob Doo-directed clip is for one of Tunechi’s recent singles off of Tha Carter V, which is set to hit stores on October 28.

Lecrae Calls His #1 Album A Case Of ‘David And Goliath’

by 3 mins ago

Lecrae has been building a fervent fanbase for over a decade, with a Grammy and a few #1 Gospel albums under his belt. With his latest, though, Anomaly, which dropped earlier this month, he reached a new pinnacle: The #1 album in the country, topping the Billboard 200.

“I was definitely excited,” Lecrae told MTV News on Friday (September 19). “But I was excited more because it’s almost like a David and Goliath type of situation, where you have a real, real indie artist, independent label. And it caused people to think, and question, and wrestle with why and how and what it’s all attributed to. I like that it caused a little commotion in the industry, and hopefully it will push people to really get back to making dope music, being real, being authentic and communicating what’s on their heart.”

As he’s continued to gain more mainstream recognition in recent years, the Houston-born rapper has earned followers that come to him for his technical rapping ability as much as for his Christian-based content.

“I think this was an album that, musically, people didn’t argue with; they didn’t push back on it,” he says of reconciling the multiple sides of himself and his fans. “Obviously, there are a couple tracks that were catered to a more contemporary Christian audience, and that’s a demographic that I understand, that I know probably an urban or hip-hop listener probably is just like scratching their head at.

“But think, overall, they’re like, ‘OK. ...

Kesha Joins Fight To Get This Kid’s Laser Cat Photo In The Yearbook

by 7 mins ago

One high school kid’s courageous fight to use a laser-and-cat-filled photo as his senior portrait found a new supporter Friday (September 19): The human rainbow herself, Kesha. Draven Rodriguez was unaware of this state of affairs, however — until MTV News told him — because he was pretty busy learning things and prepping for crew practice, as a H.S. student does.

“I’ll have to get back to that in the next week or so,” Rodriguez told MTV News as he ambled toward all the boats and paddles and things we imagine they use whilst crewing (doing crew? playing crew?). “Next time I have a chance I should log on. That’s awesome.”

Awesome, indeed. The “Timber” singer took to Twitter today to stand in solidarity with the high school senior, posting the below tweet to the microblogging site — one that pretty much sums up how we all feel.

For those of you who hate the Internet and fun, Rodriguez preemptively started a petition that went viral last week, asking Schenectady High School to let him use as Awkward Family Photo-esque snap of him and his cat Mr. Bigglesworth as his yearbook snap.

He had previously taken the photo with photographer Vincent Giodano as a joke, choosing to highlight the cat that the family had acquired the year before. “He literally walked into our lives early last year when my other cat died,” the Everyman of Cats told News. “He looked like a carbon copy of her.”

HAIM Put Out A Record Shaped Like Alana And We Must Have It

by 34 mins ago

STOP EVERYTHING!

I will now demonstrate stopping everything with this infinitely appropriate YouTube video…

Now that I have your attention, may I present: A record shaped like a human. And that human’s name? Alana Mychal Haim. Of HAIM fame.

giphy-3

HAIM announced the existence of this glorious piece of wax on Twitter, informing fans and record hounds alike that the disc will contain two versions of “My Song Five,” one featuring A$AP Ferg.

I don’t know about you, but I’m having trouble holding myself back from pushing “Buy” — but I’m also the girl who bought Girls’ (RIP) heart-shaped vinyl and that Jack White record with the hologram (plus this thing), so it might just be me.

If you, too, are scheming on buying HAIM’s disc, however, hit me up on Twitter — we can drool together.

August Alsina Wakes From Three-Day Coma After Fainting On Concert Stage

by 23 mins ago

When August Alsina collapsed on stage at a show in New York City earlier this week, it looked bad. But it wasn’t clear exactly what happened to the singer following that incident until Friday (September 19).

This morning, the New Orleans native posted a picture of himself in a hospital bed, saying he had just woken up from a three-day coma. In the caption, he said he’s on the road to recovery:

This is a bit graphic but i wanted to share this w/ every follower of mine. iWoke up out of a 3 day coma… &This guy @banggang_moneyteam right here never once left my side. What I’m tryna say is cherish the ones in life who cherish you & take good care of yourself. Your life can be gone in a split second’. I’m recovering well and thankyou for all of your prayers & concerns. -Yung

His Cincinnati concert was cancelled the day after the initial incident; he currently has shows scheduled on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, in Indianapolis, South Bend and Kansas City, respectively, but it seems unlikely he’ll perform.

MTV News has reached out to reps for Alsina and is awaiting comment.

Stop Everything — ‘HIMYM’ Has Cleared Up The Pineapple Incident

by 40 mins ago

One down, 12 more to go — a single burning query has been answered from our previously published “13 Questions Left Unanswered By ‘How I Met Your Mother’” story. And, dudes, it’s kind of a big one.

After “HIMYM” wrapped for good last spring — and after our tears dried — we rapidly realized that one of the biggest mysteries of the series had gone un-mystery-ed: Where did that pineapple come from?

If you don’t recall this particular piece of fruit, Ted woke to find it sitting on his nightstand one morning after a massively unmemorable drunken bender. Unmemorable in that he had no idea what happened. At the end of the episode, he had managed to piece it all together, “The Hangover”-style, but the pineapple remained a prickly enigma.

Until now. Buzzfeed was given an exclusive deleted scene — which will be included in the upcoming series boxset — in which everything is finally revealed.

Iranians Arrested For ‘Happy’ Video Sentenced To Six Months In Jail And 91 Lashings

by 2 mins ago

Back in May of this year, six Iranians were arrested for making a video of themselves dancing around the city of Tehran to Pharrell‘s irresistibly upbeat song “Happy.

The video was deemed to be offensive because men and women appeared together and the women were unveiled. The group was arrested, and the government forced them to apologize for the clip on state television. The nonprofit International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran explained that they were considered guilty for “participation in the making of a vulgar clip” and “illegitimate relations between members of the group.”

Now, they have been formally charged for the crime. The Iran Wire reports that their punishment, which was issued on Wednesday (September 17), is six months in prison and 91 lashings. One member, assumed to be video’s director, was given the increased sentence of a year in prison plus the lashings.

However, there is a catch: the sentence is a suspended one, which means as long as they don’t commit a similar offense within the next three years, their punishments won’t actually be carried out.

“A suspended sentence becomes null and void after a certain period of time,” the group’s lawyer Farshid Rofugaran told Iran Wire. “When it’s a suspended sentence, the verdict is not carried out, but if during this period a similar offense is committed, then the accused is subject to legal punishment and the suspended sentence will then be carried out as well.”

For his part, ...

Connie Britton’s Hair Is Adorably ’80s In This College Throwback Picture

by 23 mins ago

Well, thanks to a Senator Kirsten Gillibrand we officially have the best throwback pic of Connie Britton in existence.

In a strange twist, Connie aka Coach’s Wife on “Friday Night Lights” and spotlight-stealing powerhouse Rayna Jaymes on “Nashville” was once college roommates with New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

Gillibrand recently published her memoir Off The Sidelines that reflects on her experience as a woman in the Senate, but this adorable ’80s pic is from way before Gillibrand ever walked the halls of the Senate.

The photo is taken from the pages of that book, the pair attended Dartmouth together and the picture is from their time studying abroad in Beijing, China.

And Connie had nothing but kind words for her former roomie.

“I’m so intensely proud of her and it’s really inspiring to watch her because I do know what a powerhouse she is,” Britton told Huffington Post Live about Senator Gillibrand. “She was like that when we were living in China together. She was already at that time a real leader amongst our students there and, you know, almost larger than life — even back in college.”

But maybe that’s the best thing about this photo, it shows both of these strong, talented women back when they were just two normal college girls. But is Connie ever going to live this haircut down?? It’s definitely a contrast to her current, flawless Nashville-diva ‘do—Connie Britton’s hair even has ...

Nicki Minaj Will Be ‘Controlling’ Trey Songz In ‘Touchin, Lovin’ Video

by 13 mins ago

When Trey Songz and Nicki Minaj teamed up for “Touchin, Lovin,” from the R&B singer’s recent album Trigga, we got exactly what we expected: a dope collaboration. But it sounds like what the video will offer is a bit unexpected.

“We actually have an extra surprise in the video, where there’s an interactive feature,” Trey told MTV News recently when we visited him on set. “I know my fans are very engaged on the computer and very much social savvy, so when we give them options to watch the video, I’m sure they’ll watch it probably 20 times when you realize you can go this way, that way, this way.”

It sounds like a concept that we haven’t really seen before in a music video, and the clip’s director, Jason Zada, thinks it’ll be something that fans love.

“This idea of all your fantasy choices available to you at any point in time, it was kind of this really great way of sort of personifying all these fantasies that we all have floating around in our heads,” he said.

And while we don’t see Nicki in these behind-the-scenes shots, she will definitely be in the video — playing a special role.

“Nicki’s playing the dominant figure,” Trey added. “She’s basically controlling my dreams. And each portion of what you see is what it is she wants to happen.”

When the two first collaborated four years ago, they delivered “Bottoms Up,” a track that jumped to #1 on the Billboard ...
