Kendrick Lamar Says His New Album Will Be Filled With ‘Aggression And Emotion’

by 14 mins ago

At this point, we don’t know much about Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming sophomore album — besides the fact that he’s hard at work and we’re eagerly anticipating its release.

One thing that we now know for sure: The project will have an abundance of “aggression and emotion,” according to an interview K. Dot gave Rolling Stone for their most recent issue, with Taylor Swift on the cover, on newsstands now.

In many ways, that sounds like it’ll be a thematic cousin to Kendrick’s major label debut, 2012′s good kid, m.A.A.d city, which was brimming with emotion in its own right. But it also had moments of sadness, as he told tales of abundant violence and slain friends. The follow up, it sounds like — though, of course, we won’t know for sure until it drops — may channel that tragedy into anger.

“There was a lot I left out of good kid — it could have been a 30-track album,” the Compton native said, adding that there may be some carry over content-wise. “There are a few [new] songs that can tie in with what I was talking about.”

After enlisting Drake, Jay Rock, MC Eiht and Dr. Dre for guest verses on the last album, the 27-year-old doesn’t have any features yet this time around.

What he does have, though, is “a bunch of tracks” with Dre on the boards.

That’s a lot to look forward to.

Here’s How To Say You’re Drunk In Almost Any Language

Bombed. Blitzed. Loaded. Hammered. Wasted. S–t-faced.

In America, we have plenty of euphemisms for drinking too much. But, of course, we’re not the only country where people sometimes overindulge. Oh no, not by a long shot. You’re reading us, so that means you’re smart and only practice legal, responsible drinking, but if you happen to be traveling abroad and see someone else falling down drunk, here’s how to describe their state of inebriation to locals…

Romania
A se face muci (To make snot)

New Video Footage Shows The ‘Wheelchair Incident’ At Kanye West’s Recent Show Was Overblown

by 2 mins ago

Yesterday, reports began to surface that Kanye West had paused his show until everyone stood up—and mistakenly asked handicapped attendees to do so as well. But new footage of the show paints the events in a different light. While Kanye was eager to get fans on their feet and enjoy the show, he just went right back to the performing after he realized the fans were disabled.

The crowd initially boos and chants “stand up” along with Ye, but as soon as Kanye realized the fans were wheelchair-bound, he said it was totally fine and launched back into the song.

Watch the incident here:

A source with ties to Kanye’s camp who was at the show said that the incident was blown out of proportion and pointed out that Kanye always asks for audience participation. He certainly has no malicious intent toward handicapped fans.

In fact, he recently took the time to give a disabled fan in Austin, Texas the mic he used while performing the show. Did that spread like wildfire to every outlet? Nope, most people probably didn’t even see that story.

Was it an awkward moment, yes, but the video definitely proves it wasn’t a malicious one.

Kendrick Lamar Thinks Taylor Swift Is Supporting Hip-Hop Culture

by 30 mins ago

Recently, Taylor Swift paid a huge compliment to Kendrick Lamar. In a Rolling Stone cover story about the country-turned-popstar singer, she revealed that whenever she feels down, she listens to Lamar’s song “Backseat Freestyle” off his critically-acclaimed album Good Kid, M.A.A.D City.

The article ended with her putting on the song:

“You want to know a trick to immediately go from feeling victimized to feeling awesome?” she says. She pulls out her phone and hands me the earbuds: “This is my go-to.” She presses play, and Kendrick Lamar’s “Backseat Freestyle” fills the speakers.

Obviously, everyone wanted to know what Kendrick thought of this news? He was thrilled.

“Some people always try to lock it down and categorize it for one particular listener,” Lamar told the AP when asked about the story at the ONE Musicfest in Atlanta on Saturday (September 13) night. “But it moves all, even people from other genres. I appreciate Taylor Swift for supporting not only my music but just the hip-hop culture. There’s really no gap. It’s music and it feels good.”

Hip-hop has definitely come to the forefront in the culture as of late, and Lamar is part of that movement. During his performance that night, he reflected on that growth.

“I remember when I used to perform in front of 200 people,” Kendrick said. “Now, it’s a sea of people. I’m glad to see the growth here. It speaks volumes about the hip-hop culture.”

Now that Taylor is venturing into bona-fide pop star territory, ...

Why Is Frank Ocean’s Dad Suing Russell Simmons?

by 14 mins ago

In a bit of surreal (and ironic) news, Frank Ocean‘s absentee father has decided to make an appearance – in court.

Calvin Cooksey has just hit hip hop and fashion impresario Russell Simmons with an $142 million lawsuit for allegedly referring to Cooksey as a deadbeat dad on Simmons’ pop culture website, Global Grind. A quick search on the site, however, does not specifically name Cooksey.

According to TMZ, Cooksey – who hasn’t been in his Ocean’s life since he was five – also accused Ocean’s mother, Katonya Breaux Riley, of keeping a young Ocean away from him throughout his childhood.

Frank and his mother have always maintained a close relationship. When Frank opened up about his sexuality on a post on Tumblr, his mother referred to him as “the most incredible human I know. Honest true and loving,” on her twitter.

Cooksey believes the allegedly disparaging remarks have damaged his career (he describes himself as a singer, writer and inventor) and is suing for loss of future income.

Do you think the suit will stick? Or are Simmons’ comments valid? Let us know in the comments.

I'm actually a disco ball in human form.

Lady Gaga Got Zen In The Desert After Bringing Her Art Rave To Dubai

by 25 mins ago

Lady Gaga and Dubai are a match made in stylish, sophisticated heaven.

During her stay in the United Arab Emirates for a recent stop in her artRAVE tour, the normally-stunting singer toned down her signature eye-catching style to rock a beautiful, lush and loose-fitting sapphire gown in the desert.

The singer performed on Wednesday (September 10) in Dubai and gushed about the opportunity:

Then, she took the next day to bask in the city’s natural beauty, and shared several beautiful images on Instagram with inspiring thoughts.

“The vast and beautiful unknown. We have no idea how small we are in this massive and beautiful universe,” she wrote. Gaga looked stunning, with her arms outstretched wide and bright hills of sand as far as the eye could see.

Her “smallness” in the world is an ironic idea for one of the biggest pop stars ever, but Gaga has never hesitated to share her personal journey of growth and reflection with her global little monsters.

Earlier, she shared her off-stage pursuits including hookah, henna and moonlight camel rides.

“I’m overwhelmed by the kindness everyone has show us,” she captioned a pic full of gems, both figurative and literal.

Miley Cyrus Thinks Her Dad Is ‘The Most Magical Hillbilly Wizard Of All Time’

by 2 mins ago

Miley Cyrus has been through a lot over the past few years.

From shocking audiences at the 2013 Video Music Awards with her outrageous and teddy bear-fueled performance of “We Can’t Stop” to breaking up with her longtime boo and fiance Liam Hemsworth, she’s had her hands full.

For most people, that would be too much to handle, but Miley seems surprisingly poised in a way that many of her peers lack.

Now we now part of the reason why: support from her dad. Apparently feeling down (even global pop superstars get the blues), Miley posted a text message reply from her dad (described as “the most magical hillbilly wizard of all time”) on her Instagram.

It probably doesn’t hurt that, along the way, she’s also had plenty of other awesome people supporting her decisions, from perennial cultural touchstone and Flaming Lips rocker Wayne Coyne —she compares to her dad in the Instagram caption, to Kanye West himself.

Her dad encouraged her not to worry about stuff beyond her control, saying “that would make you a bitter ole man and that’s not cool,” he said. Indeed! After checking out her debut art show that premiered during NYFW, it’s safe to say that some of that hillbilly wizardry has rubbed off on ...

Camden Honors Amy Winehouse With A Life-Size Statue That Captures Her Spirit

by 4 mins ago

A brass sculpture of Amy Winehouse was unveiled today (September 14) in London. Amy’s father Mitch Winehouse unveiled the statue on what would’ve been the singer’s 31st birthday today in Camden.

Designed by Scott Eaton, the life-sized statue was erected in memorial at the Stables Market, which is near to the house where the singer tragically died of alcohol poisoning in 2011.

Dave J Hogan/Getty Images

Her father expressed his gratitude to Eaton for designing such a true likeness of his daughter.

“It is incredibly emotional to see Amy immortalized like this, but Scott has done an amazing job in capturing her,” he said. “It is like stopping her in a beautiful moment in time. The Winehouse family are very grateful to Scott and we really hope Amy’s fans love the statue. We want to remind everyone of her talent and that her legacy, through her music and the Amy Winehouse Foundation, carries on. Camden meant a lot to Amy and vice versa and to have her forever standing at the heart of the hustle and bustle of that area just fits.”

Originally, Camden planned to place the monument on a balcony in the city’s Roundhouse venue, but it was moved to the market in order to be more accessible for visitors.

The sculptor shared his inspiration for the posing of the statue, saying that he hoped to capture her personality in his work.

“The pose had to capture Amy’s attitude and strength, but also give subtle hints of ...

Kanye Got A New ’90s Inspired Haircut—See The Pics

by 36 mins ago

Judging by Kanye West‘s brand new fade, the 90s really are back!

Currently on tour for the Australian leg of his “Yeezus” tour, Kanye just unveiled a new geometric fade that is equal parts curious and Kid ‘n Play cool. Kanye’s long-time barber, Ibn Jasper, posted images of the haircut on his Instagram, describing it as “New KW x Ibn Jasper Vibez.”

And I’ve gotta say, I’m certainly vibing on this look.

The top and sides of Kanye’s crown feature shaved arrow symbols, directing eyes to Kanye's cute mug, or maybe, as some have suggested, in tribute to Aang from “Avatar: The Last Airbender”.

Ever the trendsetter, the style is also a smart match for his minimalist look adopted within the past couple of years (think those perfect white tees, well-fitted leather trousers, and seemingly simple sweatshirts cut in unique patterns). It’s not too showy, but just right.

Fans were immediately thrilled by the style on Ibn’s instagram, with one even asking Ibn how much it would cost to get the fade for himself. From window shade sunglasses to hip-hop preppy polos, Kanye continues to reign as an ultimate male style icon.

Nicki Minaj Is Still Freaking Out Over Performing With Beyonce

by 1 min ago

When Nicki Minaj and Beyonce dropped the “Flawless” remix a few weeks ago, we all collectively lost our minds. But little did we know that Queen B and Nicki were going to heat things up even further by performing the song together twice(!) in Paris.

The Paris shows are the On The Run tour performances that will be used for HBO’s special on the tour, so obviously Bey wanted to amp things up to make them feel like more of an event.

While Bey and Jay Z are used to the superstar status of their shows, Nicki was, well not as accustomed to the sheer magnitude of the tour. She’s been in a social media frenzy during the two-day stint as a special guest, and her palpable excitement is adorable. It’s so cool to see her as both a performer and a fan herself of Bey and Jay.

Here’s some of her more memorable posts since this whole thing unfolded.

The Initial Performance Shot

The first unveiling of their appearance together on Friday night… in matching Versace as if their mere presence together wasn’t already enough.

Onika In Lights

A call-out to Beyonce’s awesome name-drop in the remix version right before Nicki’s verse? Yes.

A Tribute to Bey & Jay

Nicki made this one a thank you and shout out to the couple who let her share in their tour experience: “Tonight was their last show which made it even more special. ...
