This 14-Year-Old Girl Kickstarted Her Own Slasher Film—Watch The Trailer For ‘Carver’

by 2 mins ago

Some teenagers are just completely ahead of the curve. Suchs is the case of 14-year old Emily DiPrimio, who just released the trailer for her first motion picture “Carver.”

Back in September of 2013, the then-13-year-old Emily dreamt of creating her own ’80s-style throwback slasher film (don’t we all!). So, she set out to make those dreams a reality by creating a modest Kickstarter campaign.

But word quickly spread and Emily easily surpassed her $25,000 goal—racking up $31,900 from more than 500 backers. There are filmmakers twice her age who wish they could achieve that feat. Now, a year later, Emily’s supporters can revel in the fruits of their support with the official release of the trailer for her film.

The movie was written and directed entirely by the budding filmmaker and her super cool father, Ron, and it features three teenagers haunted by their past actions. In the past, their pranks caused the deaths of three innocent people, and on the anniversary of those deaths, someone is out for revenge as each teen finds a carved pumpkin warning in their homes.

We’re still waiting for a release date, but in the meantime, bookmark the “Carver”official website and get excited over this seriously scary trailer! And shout out to teens taking over.

I'm actually a disco ball in human form.

Joan Rivers’ Funeral Would’ve Delighted Joan Rivers

by 17 mins ago

For a woman like Joan Rivers, excess and extravagance were the only answer — and adoration was the key. In that case there’s no doubt the star would have approved of her funeral on Sunday morning (September 7) in New York City, filled with a litany of flowers, pomp, circumstance, and celebrity friends to honor the iconic comedian after her death last week at 81.

Rivers had famously stated during her life — via her 2012 book I Hate Everyone . . . Starting with Meexactly what she wanted her funeral to be like, and though it wasn’t word-for-word, she would’ve been delighted by the elaborate ceremony today.

Plenty of Hollywood stars came to pay their respects — including Sarah Jessica Parker, Michael Kors, Kelly Osbourne, Whoopi Goldberg, Barbara Walters, Kathy Griffin, Howard Stern, Giuliana Rancic, and more.

In fact hundreds of people gathered at Temple Emanu-El in Manhattan on Sunday to pay their respects to the late icon. Naturally, many were dressed to the nines, as would befit a respectful homage to the “Fashion Police” star.

According to The New York Times, the synagogue was peppered with white gardenias at the front while an organist played. Other musical accompaniments included the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus who were on hand to perform their renditions of “What a ...

Watch This Unearthed 1981 Report On The New ‘Phenomenon’ Of Rap Music

by 1 min ago

It’s hard to believe, but there was once a time when rap music was the little indie genre that could. Well before Kanye West blew our minds with Yeezus or Drake broke our collective hearts, rap was a new phenomenon that fascinated and angered folks alike.

In a recently unearthed “20/20″ report from 1981, correspondent Steve Fox investigates this new “phenomenon” of “sexy, energetic music” that’s “from the street, heard on the streets.” Rather than ridicule or question the genre, Fox dives into the historical origins of rap, citing everything from the call-and-response traditions of the church to the hypnotic funk of James Brown.

The report also includes an interview with a 22-year-old Kurtis Blow, the creator of the 1980 hit song “The Breaks,” Debbie Harry of Blondie and other notable figures in and around the scene.

“It is very black and very urban and people are scared of that” says rock columnist Lisa Robinson in the clip, a sentiment that doesn’t feel that far from some of the criticisms we still hear today. Still, it is cool to think this style of music that is so ingrained in our music culture—from slang to videos to twerking—as once being as examined as a brand new subject.

by 22 mins ago

Anyone who has been keeping tabs on Miley Cyrus‘ colorful, eccentric Instagram account knows that the singer has been diving head first into a whole new world of creativity: visual art. Now, Billboard reveals what Miley has really been up—she’s premiering an art collection.

The collection is entitled “Dirty Hippie” and it will premiere this Wednesday (September 10) during Jeremy Scott’s New York Fashion Week show. Starting the day after the show (September 11), it will be on display in the V Magazine offices gallery at 11 Mercer Street in New York. No word yet on how long it will be on display.

Miley appears on the cover of this month’s V Magazine, which is out the same day that her art show premieres. So what inspired her to create this art? When things in her life took a turn for the worse this year.

“This seems so f—ing lame to say but I feel like my art became kind of a metaphor— an example of my life,” Miley said. “Because a bunch of sh—y things kept happening. I’ve always been so f—ing lucky. Everything has always just been easy for me. And at the beginning of this year, I hated 2014 because everything that could go wrong kept going wrong. Being in the hospital, my dog dying…Everything just kept sh—ing on me and sh—ing on me. So then I started taking ...

‘Doctor Who’: 9 Burning Questions For ‘Robot Of Sherwood’

by 2 hours ago

Not to editorialize too much, but “Robot of Sherwood,” the third episode of the eighth series of “Doctor Who,” may be one of the funniest and best-structured episodes of all time. It’ll take a few more viewings to determine whether it reaches the lofty heights of a “Blink,” but writer Mark Gatiss crafted a great, standalone hour that also raises plenty of questions about the future of the series.

Here’s everything we’re still dying to know after watching The Doctor’s adventure with Robin Hood:

1. What Is The Promised Land?

…And why do all these robots want to get there? In the past three episodes, we’ve seen Missy (Michelle Gomez) rescue both a cyborg and a space soldier from the moment of their deaths, stealing them to a place she calls paradise. This week, the robots crashed on Earth (shades of the season opener, btw) want to make it to the Promised Land, too.

So what exactly is it? And why do all these robots want to get there? And furthermore, who is sending them on the mission to find the Promised Land? This is one mystery we expect we may not find out until the end of the season.

2. Is Robin Hood Coming Back?

Tom Riley’s Robin Hood definitely had his story neatly finished, but the character was so good, we can’t help but ...

Here’s How ‘Doctor Who’ Pulled Off That Insane Spoon Fight

by 11 mins ago

You wouldn’t think fighting with a spoon would be that difficult, but if you watched the latest episode of “Doctor Who,” you know that couldn’t be farther from the truth. In the most recent episode (Sept. 6), “Robot of Sherwood,” The Doctor (Peter Capaldi) confronts Robin Hood (Tom Riley) with nothing but a kitchen utensil – and wins.

MTV News talked to writer Mark Gatiss, and Riley over the phone about developing and filming the scene. And as it turns out, not only was the spoon the product of budgetary constraints, but it led to seasoned swordsman Riley being engaged in what he calls, “the hardest fight I’ve ever had to do.”

MTV News: The spoon fight is an all time classic. Mark, how much of that was in the script?

Mark Gatiss: In an earlier draft the Doctor did have a proper sword fight with Robin. There was definitely something budgetary, that we couldn’t afford to choreograph someone fighting, or have any horse. I remember a conversation where someone said, that’s not really the Doctor.

I deliberately wrote a scene where he’s having a yogurt at the beginning, so I did conveniently have a spoon in his coat. But I just thought, that’s the Doctor. He uses his wit, and he uses his mind, and his defensive weapon is a screwdriver. So it’s only right that his weapon of choice is a spoon.

Now for practicality, it ended up being a very large spoon, and he had to wear a gauntlet, for ...

The ‘How I Met Your Mother’ Ending We All Wanted Is Finally Here

by 22 mins ago

When “How I Met Your Mother” bowed out this past March, many fans of the show could barely contain their outrage. It was not the ending that people were looking for, and it wasn’t really the reaction that the creators of the show were looking for either. After the backlash, the show’s creator Carter Bays tweeted as much:

Yeah, those don’t seem like the words of someone who is pleased with the fan reaction. It’s got to be tough to put that much work into something and see everyone hate it, right? Maybe that’s why he also wanted to let people know that there was still hope.

The promise of an alternate, happier ending for the show also began to circulate after this set of tweets:

And it looks like this version is now online.

Well, now the other ending is here. It features a mini-recap of the whole show, a little bit of courage and, well… I’ll let you bask in the romance yourself:

Gisele Bündchen Sends A Powerful Message In This New Under Armour Commercial

by 7 mins ago

When Under Armour announced that supermodel Gisele Bündchen would be one of the faces for their new ad campaign, some people didn’t think she was up to the job. Detractors took to social media posting comments about how she was just a model and modeling isn’t a sport and on and on—haters gonna hate, right?

Well, after this backlash, Gisele and Under Armour decided to respond to the negativity by turning it into powerful motivation.

“This incredibly inspirational initiative serves as a powerful reminder of all the amazing things women can do despite the pressures and criticisms we may encounter,” Bündchen said in a statement. “Having the strength to tune out negativity and remain focused on what I want gives me the will and confidence to achieve my goals.”

So in the clip, we see the model kick boxing and hitting a punching bag with force while the insults and derogatory words, along with encouragement flash behind her.

The ad’s final message appears on the screen at the end: “I Will What I Want.” It’s a statement that encourages women to choose for themselves, and one that sums up an even bigger reality of judgement that women constantly face from the media and from society. Plus it’s great to watch the generally cool, calm and collected Gisele kick some serious ass.

You may remember the first entry into this series—the incredible ballerina Misty Copeland, who we spoke to for part of our “Look Different” series.

It’s great to see Under Armour ...
