Mary J. Blige Is Right Here ‘Right Now’ On New Disclosure-Produced Track

by 1 hour ago

Mary J. Blige may be a music industry veteran, but lately she’s been in the habit of teaming up with some of the scene’s newest artists—and it’s paying off in a major way.

In February, she appeared on Disclosure‘s “F For You” as a vocalist and starred in the accompanying video. Then, she got on Sam Smith’s tender ballad “Stay With Me” and transformed the pleading number into an even more moving duet.

And on Friday (September 5), she released a new song called “Right Now” that was co-written by Jimmy Napes, Sam and the Disclosure brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence.

Disclosure also produced the song, so it veers away from the traditional R&B and soul tones that inhabit most of Blige’s work, and the title of the track alone evokes its own of-the-moment feeling.

“Right Now” is the most innovative thing we’ve heard from Blige in a while. It will be on her forthcoming album The London Sessions, which is due this fall.

Jhene Aiko Says Childish Gambino Brought ‘Something Different’ To ‘The Pressure’ Video

by 23 mins ago

With musical collaborations like “Bed Peace” and “Pink Toes” already proving the chemistry between Jhene Aiko and Childish Gambino, the two took their working relationship to a new level this week, with the released of Aiko’s “The Pressure” video, directed by the multi-talented MC.

“I’m really interested in directing myself, so I like when I meet other people that bring something new to the table that it’s like, ‘Oh, I didn’t even think of that, but I like it,’” she said of her decision to have the 30-year-old at the helm. “So when it came down to doing ‘The Pressure,’ I knew that I wanted it to be something different, and I wanted to bring in an outside view.”

The video takes a stripped down visual approach to depict the rising singer as she grapples with pressures on the home-front — like motherhood — as well as those that come with being in the public eye.

“I knew that I wanted it to be simplistic, and I knew that I wanted it to be different; that’s all I knew,” she said. “For the most part, I gave him creative control.”

With the reigns, not only did Gambino create a video Aiko loved, but the rapper — who first gained notoriety as an actor, writer, and comedian performing under his real name, Donald Glover — fostered an environment that brought the best out of Jhene.

“Most directors, they’ll just tell you what to do,” she said. “He set it ...

Sun Up, Top Down: Watch Kid Ink ‘Rollin’ Around Los Angeles

by 10 mins ago

Kid Ink is getting ready to drop the lead single from his next album on Tuesday, but before he does that, he’s back with a video for “Rollin’,” off of January’s My Own Lane.

The Los Angeles-bred rapper dropped the George Orozco-directed video on Friday (September 5), and in it, he hops in the driver’s seat of a white drop-top and cruises around his home city. He’s rocking a San Francisco 49ers Deion Sanders jersey, but L.A. doesn’t have a football team, and San Fran is in Cali, so we’ll forgive him.

Next week, the Alumni Music Group MC will be dropping “Body Language,” produced by Stargate and featuring a major guest.

“Last year, we dropped ‘Show Me’ the day after Labor Day Weekend,” Ink told MTV News, referencing his breakout single. “So I found it a great occasion to keep things rolling and kick off my next wave.”

Mac Miller’s New Video Is Dedicated To His Dog

by 49 mins ago

Mac Miller just dropped a three-and-a-half minute video for “Diablo,” but he says it’s only a teaser. So what does that mean for the real video? Well, if this is any indication, it’ll be dedicated to his dog, Ralphie.

“For Ralphie” flashes across the screen at the end of the Rex Arrow-directed visuals, off of his Faces mixtape. Back in July, Mac told MTV News that the dog had gone missing.

“Lauren is still out here and Ralph is still alive with some crazy lady who thinks she can take care of my dog better than me,” he said. “As a man, for my son, I went back to a meeting and came back and homey was gone. I can start knocking down doors, but it’s like someone loves him and if he comes back, he’ll come back.”

Though he sounded hopeful that he’d get him back at the time, maybe he’s not as optimistic now; the chorus is a repetition of the phrase, “Everybody got dead homies.”

There are also bright moments, though, as the Pittsburgh native and dozens of friends take to the streets of Los Angeles for a day of, well, all sorts of stuff. There’s a bunch of standing around, yeah. But there are also shots of the Mac holding a bouquet of flowers, a cupcake, sitting atop a food truck and rocking a sailor hat.

Come home, Ralphie.

The Movie Song Of The Summer Is…

by 2 mins ago

Last week (August 30), we asked you what the Movie Song Of The Summer was, and now, thousands of votes later, we have an answer: 1972′s “Go All The Way,” by The Raspberries.

The song first plays in the mega-hit “Guardians of the Galaxy” when Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) is escaping from the planet Morag with the dangerous, possibly universe destroying Orb. Confronted by the villainous Korath (Djimon Honsou), Quill springs into action, blasting his way to the safety of his trusty ship The Milano, and remembering to click a track on “Awesome Mix, Vol. 1″ before he does.

“Go All The Way” wasn’t actually on our original list of Movie Songs Of The Summer, but was the clear winner by overwhelming write-in vote. That said, on the off chance one intrepid voter stuffed the ballots, the second place holder was pretty close.

Also from “Guardians of The Galaxy,” your number two choice was “Come and Get Your Love,” by Redbone. It’s actually the song that directly precedes “Go All The Way,” begging the question whether people only watched the first ten minutes of the movie, but we digress.

“Come And Get Your Love” is also part of Quill’s “Awesome Mix,” played when he arrives on Morag. Clicking on his trusty Walkman, Quill sings and dances through the ruins of Morag, even pulling a native bottom-feeder off a rock to use as a defacto microphone.

So there you go! The Movie Songs of the Summer are from 1972 and 1974 respectively, so ...

This Little Girl Perfectly Captures The Spirit Of Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’

by 24 mins ago

Taylor Swift‘s brand new single—and second-ever No. 1 song—”Shake It Off” has the singer bumbling her way through a variety of different dance routines, but the gist of the song is to just be yourself no matter what.

Which is something that this little girl seems to have down pat. In fact, in the Instagram video that her mother shot of her, she’s got moves that rival Swift’s own!

Tay Tay herself took to Twitter to point out just how free and joyful her dancing was:

Yes, this is definitely a deeper level than the rest of us. Sometimes it takes a child to really reveal the beauty in life.

Watch the moves yourself to experience the full-on perfection of her carefree dancing. Ahhh, to be young! Never change girly, never change.

She’d probably do a great job choreographing the 1989 tour to be honest! Considering Taylor’s history with fan responses, something just might come of this after all.

GOP Spokesman Comes Out In Emotional Letter: ‘Let Me Get Married’

by 1 min ago

Today (September 4), in an essay written for the Washington Post James Richardson came out as gay.

Coming out can be a difficult transition for anyone, but in Richardson’s case it has even more weight: he’s a senior spokesman for the Republican party. Richardson, who is currently the Vice President of Public Affairs at Hynes Communications has worked in the past as a spokesman for the Republican National Committee, an adviser for prominent Republican figures like Govs. Haley Barbour and Jon Huntsman, and has even helped elect those who continue to argue against gay marriage.

Richardson has been open about his support of gay rights before but had never openly admitted that he was gay. As a member of the Republican political faction, admitting this fact will likely turn some of his colleagues and supporters against him, something that the Georgia native reflected on this fact in the essay:

“For my admission here, I will alienate friends whose faiths regard my sexuality as culturally corrosive. I’ll suffer the snickering of those across the aisle whose politics regard my own as personally injurious. And conservative clients may regard me as a liability.”

Related: Elton John Believes Jesus Would Be Pro-Gay Marriage

Yet, he is determined to let his voice be heard in order to come against Georgia’s explicit same-sex marriage ban. He goes on to argue that most people who now vote in favor of gay marriage were once against it, and of those who have been won ...

by 9 mins ago

The 2014-205 football season is officially here, and even if you’re not a sports fan, the opening game is always a special one. But tonight, it was even more special because our everything, Ariana Grande herself performed the National Anthem to kick off the game.

Last year’s Superbowl winners the Seattle Seahawks squared off against the Green Bay Packers at Seattle’s own CenturyLink Field tonight (September 4), but before they did, Ariana brought her signature diva voice to the stadium.

The 21-year-old singer was rooting for the home team, sporting a Seahawks jersey and jeans for the performance to honor their champion status. As we’ve come to expect, she hit every note flawlessly, and let’s face it, Ariana could inspired patriotism in even the most cold, competitive heart.

She shared a few shots of her sporty outfit on Instagram:

And it looks like her jersey was customized just for her, awwww! Although, we all know that #3 is Russell Wilson’s number oh heyyyy #3.

Pharrell and native Seattle band Soundgarden also performed during the pre-game festivities, but it was Ariana who brought the stadium to their feet with her high notes. Watch her slay the anthem below.

A Carrie Underwood Song Is Getting Its Own TV Show

by 42 mins ago

Carrie Underwood has always had the flair for the dramatic, so why not make the most of that skill?

Her previous hits, “Before He Cheats” and “Jesus, Take The Wheel,” emphasized the car as a vehicle for emotionally-fraught moments. But when 2012′s “Two Black Cadillacs” went platinum, one thing became clear: we needed more details, we needed action!

We needed… a TV show.

And just like that, Underwood’s tale of intrigue, betrayal and murder is on its way to Fox. E! News reports that Carrie herself will serve as the executive producer for the “six hour event series” with super-producer Jerry Bruckheimer. In TV-speak, event series usually means the series is only scheduled to run for one, limited season.

The Warner Bros. Television show will undoubtedly explore the love triangle that the song references—a mistress and a wife who discover their mutual lover and decide to take matters into their own hands. “One is for his wife / the other for the woman who loved him at night,” go the lyrics, explaining the significance of the two cars.

Underwood is already pretty familiar with TV, considering she started her career as the winner of American Idol’s Season 5, and recently starred in a live musical version of “The Sound Of Music” for NBC.

Now, who is going to star in the show? Can we nominate Lucy Hale for her “Pretty Little Liars” relationships drama as Aria and Read More →
