After Miley Cyrus brought 22-year-old homeless man Jesse Helt to the 2014 VMAs — and had him accept her Video of the Year award and speak on stage about homelessness in L.A. — the aspiring model was thrust into the public eye in a big way.

His newfound celebrity earned him the attention of the cops in his native Oregon, where he had a warrant out for his arrest, and, subsequently, imprisonment after he turned himself into the cops late Thursday. Still, My Friend’s Place — the organization through which Cyrus met Helt and now supports — is hopeful that Cyrus’ support of both Jesse and the cause will help draw attention to the plight of young homeless people across the U.S. and will lead to a positive outcome.

“All we want for these young people is to find the opportunities to step into resolving issues — to be able to take accountability and move forward with their lives,” Heather Carmichael, executive director of My Friend’s Place, told MTV News. “That is scary for everybody, to hold ourselves responsible for the mistakes we’ve made. To be able now to have the resources to maybe take this on and resolve it in partnership with whatever adult steps in, as scary as that might be for [Jesse]… I hope this an opportunity to change the stage he gets to stand on in his own life.”

Of all of the firsthand accounts to come out of Ferguson, Missouri in the aftermath of the killing of Michael Brown, one of the most jarring came from the Twitter account a user named @TheePharoah. He witnessed and subsequently live-tweeted the shooting and its aftermath from his own home, providing on-the-scene coverage of the story in real-time.

Though he had no way of knowing it in the moment, posts from the user, whose real name is Emanuel Freeman, spread rapidly on social media and via news outlets in the subsequent days.

Vice tracked down and spoke with the 19-year-old — who’s also a budding rapper — who not only recounted his experience, but wrote a song about it.

“The song is basically just to explain my viewpoint,” he said. “Song is my best form of communication, so I figured I’d write this song.”

“They throwin’ tear gas, I’m hearin’ gunshots, I duck ‘em all/ Mom cryin’, dad worried, they don’t want they son involved,” he raps passionately on the song, which begins at the 3-minute mark in the video above, and is delivered a capella.

The interview portion of the clip, which comes before the rap, is similarly heartbreaking and illuminating.

“I thought I had just witnessed something that changed my life, but it changed America,” he said in an interview. “I had to explain my case to the FBI; I had to get a lawyer.”

Even though it’s been awhile since Naya Rivera picked up pom-poms on “Glee” as Santana Lopez, she channeled her inner cheerleader when her NFL pro little brother, Mychal, scored big time for his Oakland Raiders. Like a good big sister, she posted a photo on Instagram Friday morning (August 29) of him with one of his teammates after he scored a touchdown that helped lead the team to victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

Photos are worth a thousand words, as the saying goes, but Naya proudly added one more: “Duuhhhh…”

How sweet!

Mychal is very supportive of his sister’s career too. Back in September 2013, when Naya’s single “Sorry” dropped, he told everyone to go download it on iTunes.

There’s definitely no sibling rivalry here.

Yes, MTV has kind of morphed into a version of Beyonce.com after she absolutely stunned us during her VMA performance and we’re all pretty much okay with that. More like BMAs—Beyonce Music Awards, right?? BRB, planning those.

In the meantime, in case you needed any more proof that Bey is America’s favorite, perfect idol, we’ve now got the science and math behind polling to back it up!

That’s right, in the newly released data from The Harris Poll, which surveyed 2,036 Americans between July 16 and 21 of this year, the data shows that Beyonce is the third on the list as America’s Favorite Musician.

Who beat her? The Beatles were at the number one spot and Elvis was number two. I’d say King B is pretty good company.

You know what’s the worst? Like the absolute worst?? When you already have a baby sister and your mom announces that she is, drumroll please, pregnant again. One mom apparently knew that her son was going to have a somewhat averse reaction to the news of his new sibling, so she filmed the whole thing.

This is pure comedic gold, people. Get this kid a stage ASAP. Let’s begin with the news straight out: she’s pregnant

Awww! What were you thinking??

He can’t understand why his mom had to “go and get another baby” because she already has two. Valid point, three’s company right?

This is exasperating!

Little kids using big words—flawlessly at that!—never gets old.

But why is it so exasperating? Because with another kid in the mix, he’s afraid that the new baby will come between him and his baby sister.

What does she think about all this anyway?

Honestly, she looks pretty stoked… must be because she doesn’t realize how annoying her crying is. Which leads us to the next question—is it a boy or a girl on the way? Because according to this kid, boy crying is far worse than girl crying.

After spending the last few days behind bars, Jeezy has posted bail, MTV News has learned.

The rapper, along with five others, was arrested on Sunday in California on weapons charges. His bail was set at $1 million.

“All six men have posted bail and are currently being processed,” CTE’s Steve “Steve-O” Carless told MTV News Thursday evening (August 28). “They will be out shortly.”

The rapper pleaded not guilty to the charges in court on Tuesday, after police claim to have found an AK-47 on his tour bus.

The Under the Influence tour stop was cancelled Sunday, which was two days after a 38-year-old man was killed backstage at a prior show in California on the tour.

Jeezy’s next court date is scheduled for September 5.

On this day 51 years ago, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his now-iconic “I Have A Dream” speech during the “March on Washington.”

Over a half century later, it seems that Dr. King’s “dream” — one of justice, equality, and peace for all, regardless of background — is as relevant as ever.

In the speech, the civil rights leader championed a day when all people could join together as one to exclaim, “Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!”

Yet, as recent events in Ferguson, Missouri, following the shooting of Michael Brown have brought to the national discourse, despite the freedoms allotted to all citizens of the country, not everyone feels they’re given an equal right to them.

It’s a sentiment J. Cole expressed in his tribute to the 18-year-old, “Be Free.”

“All we wanna do is be free,” Cole laments on the track.

If you thought “Louie” was funny, get ready for the Zach Galifianakis-starring “Baskets”—the two comics will be teaming up for the new FX series.

Louis C.K. has been actively expanding his work in producing, writing and editing other comic’s projects following the success of his own Emmy-award winning “Louie.” His work with Galifianakis on “Baskets” will be the first project under his new FX Productions’ production company Pig Newton. Galifianakis recently withdrew from the film “Freeheld” due to a scheduling conflict—now we know that conflict is “Baskets.”

The pilot for the show, which was penned by Galifianakis along with Louis C.K. and Jonathan Krisel (of “Portlandia” fame), follows the story of Chip Baskets, a man who dreams of becoming a professional clown. After traveling to Paris to enroll in a prestigious school, Baskets is rejected, and must work at a local rodeo. Krisel directed the pilot and will serve as showrunner.

“Zach Galifianakis, Louis C.K. and Jonathan Krisel have created an absolutely brilliant show,” Eric Schrier of FX told Deadline. “To say Zach’s portrayal of the lead character Chip Baskets is hilarious/unique/riveting/fascinating would be an understatement. We can’t wait for the world to meet him.”

FX has approved the show for 10 episodes, with production starting next year and air dates set for 2016.
