Justin Bieber Is In Full-Grown Man Mode On These Two New Khalil Songs: Listen

by 21 mins ago

Justin Bieber is back.

Not that he ever really left. We follow his exploits closely, of course — whether it’s his selfie with Selena Gomez or his run-ins with the paparazzi.

But on Thursday (August 28), we got new music from the singer for the first time in quite some time. The Biebs — or, in this case, Bizzle — appears on two songs on a new mixtape from Khalil, A Long Story Short.

Like we heard on his December release Journals, Bieber is in full-on sensual, grown man R&B form here, leaving his days of bubble gum pop in the past. “Time For Bed” finds Khalil and JB singing over a gentle, smooth DJ Mustard-produced beat — far removed sonically from club smashes like “2 On” and “Show Me” on the producer’s resume.

We only get 16 seconds of Bieber before the 1 minute 43 second song fades out, but later on the 10-track effort, Bizzle pops up again. And for “Playtime,” he plays a more prominent role.

Earlier this year, the singer posted a video of a DJ Mustard-produced song on Instagram, but that’s not the one included on today’s release. No timetable for when that’ll drop, either, but it sounds like a return to the up-tempo and club-ready Mustard we’ve grown accustomed to.

And there may be plenty more from the two on the way.

Back in March, Mustard told MTV News he wants to play a heavy role in the ...

The NFL Just Announced A New, Stricter Domestic Violence Policy

by 10 mins ago

Roger Goodell is making a change to existing domestic violence policy, and it’s a big one. The NFL commissioner came under fire last month after it was announced that Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice would suffer just a two-game suspension and the loss of three game checks following a brutal assualt on his fiancée.

Back in February, security cameras at an Atlantic City casino where the couple were staying caught the running back dragging his unconscious fiancee, Janay Palmer (now Rice), out of an elevator. Rice was charged with aggravated assault but the pair have since married and Rice avoided going to trial for the crime by entering a pre-trial diversion program.

On July 24, the league announced their own punishment for Rice’s actions. And the backlash was loud and fierce, especially in light of the NFL’s policies regarding controlled substances like marijuana, possession of which can lead to a year’s suspension and up to a whopping $500,000 fine. (Many in the sports community have called for revisions to these disciplinary policies as well.)

Taken together, the league gave the impression of being less concerned with domestic violence than with regulating the use of say, marijuana — which, for one, is now legal for recreational use in two states.

While Goodell initially defended his decision in the Rice case, he’s now revisited those policies and the result is a much stricter response. After the first offense ...

Watch James Brown Turn ‘Sex Machine’ Into A Ramen Commercial

by 15 mins ago

Sometimes the Internet just wants to do us all a solid and bring us a wee bit of curious joy. Today’s such instance is this James Brown ramen commercial, sung to the tune of “Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine,” one of his most well-known songs. Timely, given that Chadwick Boseman-fronted biopic about the singer that just came out.

We’re going to go out on a limb and assume this particular incident didn’t make the film’s script. Not because it’s not infinitely interesting (because it is), but more so because it’s James Brown. In a ramen Commercial. Sung to the tune of “Get Up/Sex Machine.” Made in Japan. (Yes, your “Lost In Translation” jokes are very timely and accurate right now, so go ahead and make them.)

And no, we’re not complaining in the least. Because this, if anything, is a gift.

There is little else in the universe that is as enjoyable as seeing a very famous and acclaimed person doing something so silly that you know they hope never, ever sees the light of day in their home country. No doubt it is a very good thing that the Internet did not exist back when Brown recorded the commercial because, lawd knows, that is exactly what would’ve happened. Because, I mean, it’s a song about noodles, sung to the tune of a song about havin’ sex. And while, yeah, Americans love sex and food (and the two combined therein) perhaps a bit more ...

We’ve Tried Tim Hortons’ Buffalo Crunch Donut And Now Nothing Will Ever Be The Same

by 20 mins ago

Here’s the thing you need to understand: I love buffalo sauce. If I see something with the spicy, tangy red sauce on a menu, I cannot turn it down. I’m also in love with weird frankenfoods, to the point where I’d prefer to eat something weird, something bizarre, off the beaten path… Even if it ends up being totally unpalatable.

So when news broke that Tim Hortons was releasing a Buffalo Crunch Donut – and my coworkers here at MTV News can attest, this is true – I got so excited I couldn’t form words.

IMG_7300

Only problem: they’re available until Monday (September 1) only at the New York State Fair in Syracuse, NY, and Tim Hortons has no plans to make them generally available on the market.

After doing some quick calculations about whether it was worth driving four and a half hours either way to try a donut (pro: buffalo donut, con: four and a half hours each way), I instead contacted Tim Hortons, who were gracious enough to get a local store – run by a very accommodating man named Raymond Wong – to reproduce the recipe.

The original, as a bit of background, isn’t just a donut with some spicy crème. It’s the creation of local owner Anthony McEachern, who crafts unique donuts every year for the New York State Fair and Tim Hortons. In previous years, he’s made a donut that looked like a meatball sub, and this year he decided to embrace the spicy ...

‘Halloween’ Is Coming To Universal Orlando, And We’ve Got The Behind The Scenes Story

by 19 mins ago

Every Fall, when the lights go down on Universal Studios in Orlando, the monsters come out. And this year, Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights is welcoming one of the biggest film monsters of all time: Michael Myers, the masked slasher from the “Halloween” movies.

In 1978, John Carpenter unleashed Myers on the world, a killer terrorizing a young Jamie Lee Curtis in the town of Haddonfield, Il. The movie didn’t just launch a franchise, it virtually created the unstoppable slasher genre. And now, the story of the original film will feature in one of the Halloween Horror Nights “mazes,” haunted houses that allow guests to relive and interact with iconic maniacs like Myers.

Though this news won’t be officially revealed to the world until tomorrow morning (August 28), MTV News hopped on the phone with Michael Aiello, Director of Entertainment – Creative Development for Universal Orlando Resort, who couldn’t be more excited about bringing Myers into the fold.

“It’s a crown jewel!” Aiello said about snagging the license. “Michael Meyers, his visage is so vivid. And the score of the film, is not only an emotional thread in the movie, but also provides a great stinger for all of the scares. It’s a no-brainer to translate this kind of experience for people to walk and live through.”

Part of translating the experience effectively? Working with Malek Akkad, the Producer who has been associated with the “Halloween” series since 1995, and is the son of the original Producer of the 1978 movie. And ...

This Justin Bieber And Selena Gomez Selfie Suggests Jelena Is Back On

by 1 min ago

So it looks like Justin Bieber‘s regram of a Selena Gomez solo selfie last night was a sign toward one thing: the couple getting back together!

Just a few minutes ago, Bieber posted this adorable pic of the two on his Instagram account.

Jelena shippers, love is in the air! Cross your fingers, we might be settling back into monogamy. I don’t mean to jump the gun here, but that looks like a couple selfie if I’ve ever seen one.

And they might be on a plane together? Justin posted this photo just before the couple one.

Maybe they’re on a romantic getaway? Mmmm, that sounds nice right about now. Wishing you the best Jelena!

MTV Weekend Editor. Acts like Madonna but listens to Merle.

Rico Love Releases New Mixtape: Stream I Sin Now

by 18 mins ago

On this day last year, Rico Love released his EP Discrete Luxury. And on Wednesday (August 27), he returned with his new project, I Sin.

The 12-track effort features appearances by Future, Big K.R.I.T., Troy Ave, and Bobby Shmurda. The opening track is the second recent collab for Rico and Krizzle, who worked together on the Mississippi rapper’s recent single “Pay Attention.”

“I just wanna make music,” Rico says on the “Interlude.” “I don’t wanna be limited to a genre. I don’t wanna be limited to a particular sound. I just wanna make music and consistently make songs that i feel like people can relate to in some way, shape, form, or fashion.”

So, since it sounds like he doesn’t want us to box his work in with a description, we’ll just say you can listen to the project below.

Here’s Why ‘Shake It Off’ Just Became Taylor Swift’s Second Ever No. 1 Song

by 2 mins ago

Taylor Swift thrilled Swifties a few weeks ago when she revealed all the info about her brand new album 1989 in a Yahoo livestream, and proceeded to share the record’s first single “Shake It Off,” along with the video for the track.

In the livestream, she explained that 1989 will be her first proper pop album—effectively stating that she’s leaving her country roots behind. And apparently, that’s just what her fans wanted, because “Shake It Off” officially just hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts!

taylor-shakeset-1

Surely, this success is partially due to her stellar performance of the song at theVMAs in an old-fashioned, sparkly bralet and shorts two-piece—Tay Tay was definitely into a pants-free for the whole awards show.

The success of “Shake It Off” is a big deal, because it’s only Taylor’s second ever No. 1 track—the other being “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”—and taken together the songs reveal that big, danceable songs are just what she needs to stay on top. Despite her past success in country, 2012′s Red was Taylor’s first step out of the Nashville fold, and 1989 will see her shimmying her way into a full-fledged pop star.

But these two songs share another feature in common—they’re both anthems that empower girls—whether it’s by ditching toxic relationships or ignoring haters, the positive, independent message they send is clear. There will be no more teardrops ...

Listen To The First Song Off Logic’s Debut: ‘Driving Ms. Daisy’ Featuring Childish Gambino

by 9 mins ago

Logic has been prepping his debut album for some time now, and even told MTV News earlier this year that he had finished recording it in just two weeks.

Though we still don’t know exactly when it’ll drop, on Wednesday (August 27), the Maryland rapper gave us our first taste, with “Driving Ms. Daisy,” featuring Childish Gambino, which will be a bonus cut.

“I was actually on my headlining tour when I produced and wrote this record in one sitting,” he said of the track in an interview with Billboard. “I was deathly sick and dealing with a lot of problems, not personal so much as business and getting the album ready. I decided to put it on a song, and the fact [that] I produced it made it feel more honest to me. I gave the listener every aspect of my mind on this matter.”

At first, he wasn’t even planning on getting the “3005″ rapper on the track, but the collab happened because he genuinely liked the song.

“He doesn’t do a lot of features so it was dope to not only do a song with the homie, but someone I’m a fan of,” he added.

There’s no release date yet on Logic’s major label debut, but it should be out before the end of the year.
