Killer Mike Addresses Michael Brown Shooting On CNN

by 17 mins ago

Listening to Killer Mike’s music — from his Pledge series to R.A.P. Music to his work as part of Run the Jewels — it’s evident that he has a knack for understanding, articulating and contextualizing what he feels are some of the most prominent issues facing American society as a whole, as well as black communities.

And he was at it once again on Wednesday (August 20), during an appearance on CNN. The appearance comes on the heels of an Op-Ed written for Billboard, published on Tuesday, where Bigga examined the shooting of Michael Brown as well as the fallout in Ferguson, Missouri, and beyond.

“I have searched all night and day for new and better words that could express my feelings and fear for the people of this country,” he wrote. “I found no new words. I have no hope-filled insight to deliver. I only have this warning to all Americans: Whatever this country is willing to do to the least of us, it will one day do to us all.”

He came back today on national TV expressing that same sentiment — that what’s going on is something everyone in the United States should care about.

“If this police officer is not arrested, what immediately may happen…may be tears and pain and agony and burning, and I hope it’s not that,” he said during the close of a chat where he also discussed his ...

Well, Diddy Just Released A Dance Album

by 41 mins ago

Diddy has ventured into just about all arenas — musical and otherwise — so it’s tedious to mention all of them, but here are a few: Founding a record label, producing hits, rapping, singing, dancing. You get the point.

So, really, it was only a matter of time until he released a dance album. And on Wednesday (August 20), he did just that.

The new effort, called 1111, is a 12-track collaboration with DJ and producer Guy Gerber. The primarily vocal-less offering is mostly up-tempo and filled with dance tracks. They’re probably more made for fist-pumping than Diddy Bopping — but dancing nonetheless.

Do a little Diddy Bop, then check it out below.

Wiz Khalifa Says ‘House In The Hills’ With Curren$y Is Meant For Celebrating

by 3 mins ago

Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y have been collaborating for years, since before they were household names in the rap world and beyond, so why not take a little time to look back?

That’s exactly what the two did on Wiz’s new album, Blacc Hollywood, which dropped this week.

“This is one of my favorite songs on the album, ‘House on the Hills,’ just based off of the content and what it really means,” Mister Cap told MTV News. “I tried to capture some real moments in my life, and Curren$y is very much a part of my life — just as far as music, and [on] a personal level, that’s my bro.”

“And a lot of my accomplishments, I feel like are our own accomplishments, like, both of us. So, I wanted to celebrate that on the album.”

It’s one of a handful of features on the project, which also includes appearances by Nicki Minaj, Ty Dolla $ign, Juicy J and more. But the Spitta collab may sound the most natural of all of those — with good reason, since the two have been friends for years.

“We just sit back and reflect on where we came from and where we’re at,” Wiz said. “That song is like another one of those reflection records.”

Nicki Minaj Was Drunk When She Gave Drake His ‘Anaconda’ Lap Dance

by 1 min ago

If you’re anything like me, this is likely what happened when Nicki Minaj dropped her “Anaconda” video: First, you watched it. Then, you couldn’t talk. Then, you couldn’t stop talking about it.

Nicki, of course, understood this. And so she held a Q&A on Twitter on Wednesday (August 20) to field questions from fans.

Here are some of our favorite tidbits.

She had a little confidence juice before making Drake a very lucky man with that lap dance

And Drizzy was very happy. Obviously

He earned that distinction by being in the right place at the right time

She cut a scene on the beach because she didn’t like it

But she loved every scene that made the final cut equally

And the workout made her laugh the most

There’s footage of the kitchen scene that was too explicit to make it into the video

If that’s the case, you could probably sell that footage for a lot of money to the highest bidder, Nicki. Just sayin’.

Sorry ‘Doctor Who’ Fans: The New Doctor Won’t Have A Catchphrase

by 10 mins ago

Allons-y! Geronimo! Fantastic! For each Doctor on “Doctor Who,” there’s been a signature catchphrase to accompany him. That is, until now: prepare for both of your hearts to break, because Peter Capaldi’s new Doctor won’t have a pithy saying at his disposal.

“Who needs a catchphrase? What’s so great about a catchphrase?” Capaldi said when we confronted the star about the surprising development at the blue carpet premiere in New York.

Well, Tumblr, for one. Won’t you think of the GIFs?

And as a second, more pressing point, it’s a tradition that started back with the rebooting of “Doctor Who” in 2005, but stretches even farther (though more sporadically) through the show’s 50 year history.

Though as it turns out, Executive Producer Steven Moffat only continued that tradition with the last Doctor by mistake.

“This is a ridiculous thing for me to say in particular, but I don’t like catchphrases very much,” Moffat said. “They always happen by accident! I never put one in for Matt [Smith]. Matt just liked the word Geronimo, so [he] started shoving it into different scripts where I hadn’t put it. And ‘bowties are cool’ was just my nervousness of him wearing a bowtie.”

Though we won’t see Capaldi’s new iteration saying something like, “Here we go,” or even his “Thick Of It” catchphrase of “F–kity bye!” there is at least one recurring bit we can look forward to.

“What I like, which we should do more is the ‘oh, oh!’ ” Jenna Coleman, who co-stars as the Doctor’s companion ...

WCW: This Woman Is Rescuing Latina Identity From The Tumblr Porn Abyss

by 1 min ago

It’s Woman Crush Wednesday, where we honor the women we want to be best friends with/be mentored by — or just be. Allow us to introduce you to this week’s lady of the entirety of this 24 hours…

Name: Xochilt Montaño

So why should we care about this lady? She started an awesome movement on Tumblr — along with four friends — to reclaim Latina identity. The whole thing is called Reclaiming the Latina Tag.

That’s pretty cool. Why did she want to reclaim the tag, though? What does that mean? Well, back in 2012 Xochilt was cruising through the #Latina tag and it was all, uh, porn.

Um. What? That’s really weird. I know! And did you know Latinas are also more likely to characterized as hyper-sexualized in movies, too?

What?! I mean, that’s a story for another day (literally, we wrote about it), but that ties in as well, since women were — and are — basically being made into fetishized objects on Tumblr.

So how does this whole thing work? Well, Xochilt decided to take back the tag, she told Buzzfeed, by uploading selfies. She thinks the selfie is an “act of resistance.” Those photos are often also captioned with info about the selfie-taker, flooding the #Latina feed with real women — not pornified snaps.

Wow! How do people react to that? Sadly, some people end up fetishizing the selfies as well, but Xochilt and Co. just block those guys. “It’s pretty tiring having ...

‘Batman Eternal’ Ends Its First Act With A Spoiler-Filled Reveal

by 11 mins ago

Each week, MTV News is breaking down the big moments in DC Comics’ “Batman Eternal,” the weekly series that has sent Batman and his crew to the four corners of the Earth to stop the madness that’s about to engulf Gotham City.

This week, we chatted over the phone with writer Tim Seeley about the end of the first act for the series, how the intro of a new crime boss will redefine Gotham history, and that spoiler-filled last page:

MTV News: There’s a lot of tying up going on in this issue, as you teased last week. Let’s start with the plot happening under Arkham Asylum, and two bits that I was wondering about in particular. First, what’s up with that portal he opens up? It’s a little crazy to hear Batman shouting, “An interdimensional portal!”

BMETRL_20_2-3

Tim Seeley: [Laughs] Arkham is being haunted by Deacon Blackfire bringing in these creatures that are able to inhabit the people in Arkham Asylum. The Ten-Eyed Man is in contact with something else that promised to give him a vision, if he traded them.

You see what happens when Deacon Blackfire is messing with the walls between the worlds, and you’re getting a little bit of that leak into the underground of Gotham. We’ll see more of what happens with that in future issues.

Ten-Eyed Man’s ability can sort of see the future, but he can’t see very well. He sees that first page of “Batman Eternal,” which is that the signal has ...

Action Bronson Goes On A Drug-Fueled Ride In ‘Easy Rider’ Video

by 26 mins ago

One thing you will not get when watching an Action Bronson music video: Stereotypical rap video stuff. What you can count on is plenty of hilarity and creativity, which he again delivered on Wednesday (August 20), with the release of “Easy Rider.”

The first single from his upcoming album Mr. Wonderful, the Party Supplies-produced track takes its name from the 1969 film starring Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicholson. The Tom Gould-directed visuals also borrow from the movie, as they find Bronsalino taking drugs and hitting the open road on his motorcycle.

There’s also an epic scene at the end of the video where Bronson stands atop a mountain and jams out on an electric guitar. So, yeah.

Mr. Wonderful is scheduled to drop later this year.

Drake Hit The VMA Stage Before He Was Even A Star — Which Was A Sign Of Things To Come

by 36 mins ago

I’m willing to bet the first time you heard Drake, you didn’t even know it.

And I’m willing to bet I know what rhymes you heard: “I am on a 24-hour champagne diet/ Spilling while I’m sipping, I encourage you to try it.”

And I’m willing to bet you didn’t hear them out of Drake’s mouth, but instead, from Lil Wayne.

That’s because when Tunechi took the stage to perform at the 2008 VMAs, instead of rapping his own lyrics, he recited a Drake verse to a then-unreleased “Money to Blow” over an instrumental from Tha Carter III‘s “Misunderstood.” Though the track ended up being a hit for Birdman, Wayne, and Drake, when the catchy bars entered Weezy’s mic that night, the kid from Toronto was largely an unknown.

And such was the start of a string of special moments for Champagne Papi and the VMAs.

Just months after that performance, Drake dropped So Far Gone, and the hits began to pile up. He scored a nomination for Best New Artist for “Best I Ever Had” in 2009. And when he released his major label debut, Thank Me Later, the following year, it was only right he hit the VMA stage for the annual event.

“I just really remember like how nervous I was at my first VMAs,” he told MTV News last year, recalling that September 2010 performance, when he brought out Mary J. Blige and Swizz Beatz to help him perform “Fancy.” “It’s one thing to be ...
