This 9-Year-Old’s Cover Of ‘This Is Hardcore’ Is Awesome/Uncomfortable

by 30 mins ago

If you’ve ever had the pleasure (and I do mean pleasure) of seeing Pulp live, you’ll know that Jarvis Cocker’s hips are, like, insane. Now imagine those moves as executed by a 9-year-old — and feel simultaneously awed and uncomfortable.

Graham Johnson was the winner of a Pulp karaoke contest, judged by Cocker himself. The tiny dancer performed the band’s racy-as-the-title-suggests 1998 classic, “This Is Hardcore” (sample lyric: “It seems I saw you in some teenage wet dream”). Someone’s parents are cool.

You can watch the whole (pretty inspired) performance below. We’re not exactly sure how to feel about the whole thing, so we’ll leave you with these words from Jarvis himself: “What exactly do you do for an encore? ‘Cause this is hardcore.”

What’s The Coolest Thing Lorde Owns? See The Pic

by 29 mins ago

Further evidence that Lorde and I should be best friends emerged on Instagram this week in the form of a photo of the “coolest thing” the 17-year-old owns. The item in question? That would be David Live, David Bowie’s 1974 live album.

Bowie and Lorde have had their share of interactions over the past year — the iconic musician and Ella hung out with Tilda Swinton at New York’s Museum of Modern Art and The Thin White Duke later told the teen she was the future of music. (Sidenote: Still waiting for that letter, Bowie).

I think a collaboration is in order — both have been teasing new music of late. What do you say? You both have regal nicknames. Think about it… (Also, I can sort of play drums… hit me up.)

Miley Cyrus Only Has Eyes For This One-Eyed Dog

by 1 min ago

So, I hate to tell you this, Miley, but you’re kind of turning into a dog lady. About 75 percent of your photos on Instagram feature you kissing various and sundry pups — the other 25 percent are of Wayne Coyne, punk icons and your new pig, in varying percentages.

Everyone over at MTV News, however, is pretty smitten with your most recent dog snap, featuring this adorable one-eyed dog.

From whence does that dog come, Miley? You’ve tagged Wayne Coyne and his girlfriend in the caption. Does the pooch live with the Lips and Co.? Or did you all hit up an adoption center and go to town with the nuzzling?

Either way, we think you should own this pirate of a pup — if you don’t already. Floyd is nodding along with us in heaven, so make him (her?) yours…

Need To Know: Calvin Harris Has ‘A Damn Good Reason’ Why He Didn’t Let Rita Ora Perform At Teen Choice Awards

by 25 mins ago

With additional reporting by Janelle Myers

What’s The Real Reason?
Calvin Harris spoke out on Twitter on why he did not allow Rita Ora to perform “I Will Never Let You Down,” a song that he wrote and produced, at the Teen Choice Awards. He would not offer his side of the story, because he doesn’t talk about his personal life, but said that he “had a damn good reason” for his decision. Besides a hand-waving emoji, he offered no further explanation.

Fly Girl
It’s a bird, it’s a plane…oh wait, it’s Allison Williams learning how to fly in preparation for her role as Peter Pan in the NBC livecast set to air in December. She paid homage to Robin Williams, who played the same character in the film “Hook,” and she said she has big shoes to fill.

Brittany Murphy Biopic
Lifetime is at it again with another biopic, and this time around, it’s one based on Brittany Murphy. “Grey’s Anatomy” star Amanda Fuller will portray the late actress in the film, titled “The Brittany Murphy Story.”

Another Band Reunion
Trace Cyrus rejoined Metro Station, and they already have a new single called “Love & War” complete with a music video. The band will go on tour starting in October with The Ready Set.

Must-See Video Of The Day
The Muppets can sing a mean rendition of “Rainbow Connection,” but what about rap? The Swedish Chef, Animal and Beaker take on the Beastie Boys classic ...

Beyoncé Shuts Down Divorce Rumors With Symbolic Instagram Pic

by 4 mins ago

Divorce rumors are swirling around Beyoncé and Jay Z as they continue on their “On The Run Tour” but according to Beyoncé’s Instagram, she’s still part of a team.

While the singer is notoriously private about her personal life, even she couldn’t resist taunting her haters with a not-so-subtle message: she’s a Carter.

The pic shows Beyoncé in a Carter jersey that is, of course, the number four.

Anyone who is familiar with the mythology of Bey and Jay knows that this number is important to their relationship. They were both born on the 4th day of their respective birth months, and they were married on April 4th in 2008—4/4/08 (four times four is eight… you get the picture). The symbology with the number 4 goes on and on, but Beyonce seems to have made her point clear with a single picture.

Want to hear Beyoncé’s comments on the elevator fight? Then head right over to last Saturday night’s surprise “Flawless” Remix.

7 Selfies That We Hope Make Kim Kardashian’s Selfie Book

by 5 mins ago

Well, the queen of #selfies herself Kim Kardashian is officially publishing a book of, yup, selfies. Entitled Selfish, the book is coming out through Rizzoli’s Universe and will retail for $19.99.

According to Rizzoli’s website: “It will feature many never-before-seen personal images from one of the most recognizable and iconic celebrities in the world.” 352 of Kim’s selfies will be in the book, but the real question here is which ones will be included?

After all, Kim has hundreds of selfies to choose from—and we’re only talking about the ones we’ve actually seen posted to her social media feeds.

Surely the book will focus on the selfies that helped encapsulate big events from the life of Kim, Kanye and North in the last few years. With that in mind, here’s our picks for seven selfies that must be in “Selfish.”

1. Pregnant Kim selfie

No surrogacy rumors here—Kim happily shows off her baby bump! Kim’s pregnancy was a crucial step in the narrative that surrounded her romance with Kanye. It was the first sign that she was serious about this relationship. Motherhood also seemed like a huge move toward maturity for Kim.

2. Kim and Donatella Versace at the 2013 Met Gala selfie

A still very very pregnant Kim attended the Met Gala in 2013 with Kanye. While she was there, she took a selfie with Donatella Versace. If that’s not book-worthy, I don’t know what is. This was also a big fashion moment for Kim because she wore a form-fitting floral gown by Riccardo Tisci ...

Watch These Commuters Push Their Train To Save A Trapped Passenger

by 23 mins ago

A commuter’s worst fear is to be trapped by a train, and an Australian man found himself in that very situation this week. But instead of the nightmare situation turning fatal, the Perth man was able to escape unscathed due to the help of his fellow commuters.

This past Wednesday, Andy was waiting to get on the train when his foot slipped. While his leg was trapped between the platform and the train, the crowd realized what was happening and banded together to push the train. Scores of bystanders and Transperth rail staff physically rocked the train, getting it to move from its suspension enough for Andy to remove his leg.

Watching the happen is heart-stopping—if you’ve ever taken a train, the idea of missing the gap and being pinned has probably crossed your mind. But it’s seeing everyone around Andy joining together to save him that’s truly a beautiful, rare thing.

In a recent interview with PerthNow he explained his dilemma.

“The outcome could have been terrible, worse case scenario I could’ve lost my leg,” he said. “I was sort of a bit wobbly on my feet, it took me a while to sort of get my balance.”

Transperth spokesman David Hynes said his staff quickly directed the rescue.

“The man was freed safely and we handed him over to emergency services. “We understand that he was not badly injured because he stayed at the station and boarded a later train to the city,” he said.

The 29-year-old Andy has ...

You And Your Cat Can Attend The Feline Film Festival That’s Coming To Los Angeles

by 2 hours ago

Los Angeles is affirming its love for all things cat by hosting the LA Feline Film Festival this fall on September 21. Next to the proliferation of cat cafes, this is the most awesome feline-oriented news we’ve heard in a while!

The festival will be presented by Santa Monica-based company Organikat, a company that makes planet-friendly products for pets, and the Minneapolis’ Walker Art Center. Last year, the center developed the idea for a touring all-feline internet cat film fest—and since it sold out when it came to LA last year, they decided to throw one based there.

Basically, the feline film festival lets thousands of cat-lovers come together to watch hours of a-meow-zing internet cat videos on an 80 foot screen. From 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. there will also be food and beer trucks present, and hopefully you know, some cat food vendors.

Lil Bub

Of course, plenty of celeb kitties will be in attendance, including Lil Bub, Tara Hero Cat and Dusty Klepto Kitty.

Along with all this, there’s going to be opportunities to adopt cats from local no-kill shelters and a portion of ticket sales will be donated to participating cat rescue and adoption groups, including The Kitty Bungalow Charm School for Wayward Cats.

To totally make your Caturday, the festival will welcome cats on leashes or in a carrier. But sorry, no dogs allowed! Check out a clip from last year’s touring fest—cue cute ...

Adam Lambert Doesn’t Think Cultural Appropriation Is That Big Of A Deal

by 6 mins ago

Cultural appropriation is a sensitive topic. It’s spurred a ton of backlash lately, like when Khloe Kardashian decided it would be cool to wear a Native American headdress or when Pharrell also wore one on the cover of Elle.

Is it okay for people who aren’t of a specific culture to still use elements from it? Well, Adam Lambert thinks it isn’t as big a deal as some people make it out to be.

This week, he took to Twitter to discuss his thoughts on the appropriation of a slightly different strain: that of LGBT culture.

He began the discussion by writing about the blending of cultures:

The singer went on to write that as an artist, different backgrounds and cultures are celebrated:

The singer also posed a question:

Glamberts weighed in on both sides of the discussion. @JustAFanAL wrote, “hm, sure maybe. But being uneducated and ignorant about the culture your (sic) appropriating for your hipster benefits is distasteful.” Others agreed with Lambert, like @sabinnesteffana, who wrote “AMEN.”

Lambert, who’s been on tour with Queen this summer, acknowledged that people will have differing viewpoints on the topic, and that he is speaking from his own perspective.

Cultural appropriation is an important topic to discuss and understand. For more information on cultural appropriation, check out Look Different. What do you think about the topic? Let ...

Vic Mensa Covering ‘Seven Nation Army’ Is Proof That Genre Boundaries Are Over

by 38 mins ago

At Lollapalooza last weekend, Chicago rapper Vic Mensa transported everyone back to that simpler, innocent time by covering “Seven Nation Army” with all the intensity of the original.

Remember back before everyone had Jack White fatigue and he was just half of a cool new band called The White Stripes? Nobody knew much about them except they had a female drummer and a song called “Seven Nation Army” that was so cool it was practically the second coming of a spiritual leader. Somehow, Mensa channeled that coolness while updating the track with a little EDM and a little hip-hop posturing.

Watch a clip of the cover below via Pursuit of Dopeness.

Vic is part of the Chance the Rapper’s Save Money crew and while he’s on the come up, it’s still easier for festival crowds when a newer artist throws out a legacy cover that everyone can mosh to accordingly. Even for people who were unfamiliar with Vic’s own material, his passion while performing this song is palpable. Given he was performing in his hometown, though, plenty of people knew Vic himself.

But what’s really cool about this is that Vic is a rapper covering an indie rock song—it’s just further proof that the hard and fast lines between genres are disappearing into the ether, and now music of every genre is spilling into every other genre like one big happy family. Thank you Vic Mensa, for helping the lines between genres grow ...
