50 Cent Just Bought ALL The Trey Songz Albums

by 1 min ago

Sure, the majority of 50 Cent’s often-hilarious Instagram videos seem to be poking fun at someone. But, as he proved on Tuesday, he can also use his platform for a cause he deems worthwhile.

Fif headed to a Best Buy in Pittsburgh to support Trigga, the new album from Trey Songz. In fact, he cleaned out the store of the singer’s latest release — even sending a sales associate to check if they had more available that weren’t on display on the shelves.

“@treysongz I BROUGHT THE STORE. NO CD’s left in best buy,in Pittsburgh tell the label i said reship LMAO,” he wrote.

He even made the salesman a bit of a star, and it was all in the name of supporting Trigga’s work.

“Take a picture of your self buying music you enjoy. SPR support real artist. #smsaudio #animalambition”

Trey, who appeared on the rapper’s “Smoke,” off of his recent Animal Ambition, caught wind of the move and showed his appreciation.

Ariana Grande Will Perform ‘Break Free’ Live At The 2014 VMAs!

by 1 min ago

You prayed for it, you tweeted it, you basically manifested it. And now it’s happening: Ariana Grande will return to the VMAs with a live performance of her brand-new single, “Break Free.”

If you watched Ariana’s “Total Ariana Live” “TRL” 2.0 special like the good fan that you are, then you were amongst the first Arianators in the world to hear her new single, “Break Free,” when she debuted the song live on the show. It’s just a taste of what’s to come when she performs the single live for the first time ever at the 2014 VMAs, August 24 at The Forum in Los Angeles.

Ariana’s been teasing the Zedd collaboration on Twitter for almost two weeks, so a full dose of the synthy, upbeat summer anthem has been a long time coming for her fans.

And in case you missed this crucial piece of Ariana news because you were too busy memorizing “Break Free,” Ariana also announced that her sophomore album, My Everything, which was slated for release on August 25th, will actually be available for purchase immediately following the VMAs on August 24th -— a whole day early.

Although Ariana sang a pre-performance medley last year, this will be her first time gracing the VMA mainstage. But given her ability to flawlessly belt out Mariah-worthy whistle tones, it seems unlikely that the VMAs will be a problem for Ariana.

Cyhi The Prynce, Joell Ortiz And Royce Da 5’9″ Tell Hood Tales On ‘Huey (Remix)’

by 6 mins ago

In February, Cyhi the Prynce dropped his Black Hystori Project mixtape, and on Wednesday (July 2) — the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 — he released a remix to one of the tape’s standouts, “Huey.”

The updated version includes a new verse from the Atlanta rapper, as well as from Royce Da 5’9″ and Joell Ortiz. The three flex their lyrical talents while they tell tales of rising above the street life that they grew up around.

The song is named for Huey Newton, a co-founder of the Black Panther Party.

Nick Cannon’s Directing Method? ‘Just Let ‘Em Do Their Thing’

by 1 min ago

Nick Cannon has worn many hats during his lengthy career, from rapper to actor to television host. And with “School Dance,” in theaters on Wednesday (July 2), he added another to his resume: director.

Cannon wrote, produced and directed the film, and though he doesn’t appear in it himself, some true comedy heavyweights like Kevin Hart, Mike Epps, George Lopez and Katt Williams all do.

So how did Nick handle the new responsibilities?

“I feel like I’m one of those directors that — especially with comedy — [I say], Man, just have fun,” he told MTV News. “Here’s the blueprint, the script, and if you can make it better, make it better. And everybody did that. I mean, how do you tell Mike Epps how to be funny? How do you tell Kevin Hart how to be funny? How do you tell Katt Williams how to deliver a punchline? You don’t. You just let ‘em do their thing, and you capture it.”

Also cast in the film is Amber Rose, who plays MaryWanna, a senior at the high school that the protagonist attends. She sang Nick’s praises as a director.

“Nick is amazing,” she told MTV News. “He’s patient. He’s smart. He’s sweet. He’s a genuinely nice guy. And you don’t really find that with celebrities. A lot of them are, like, you know, a-holes. But he’s not.”

Despite the big names in the film, and this being his directorial debut, Cannon sounded at ease.

“The most fun was getting people like Kevin Hart ...

Look At Weezer’s Terrifying New Album Cover

by 15 mins ago

Given the cover of Weezer’s upcoming record, we’re guessing that its title, Everything Will Be Alright In The End, is a big old lie.

The cover was revealed via a very “Where The Wild Things Are”-esque teaser featuring a dozing child dreaming of a terrifying puffball monster stomping through a forest in a sea of smoke.

weezer

The video also features a track titled “My Mystery” that’s pretty damn ’90s-game dreamy. “I don’t even know your name/ No, I don’t know the words to say/ So I call you my mystery,” sings Rivers Cuomo on the track. I hope he’s talking about the puff monster.

Weezer have been been teasing their ninth studio record — recorded with Cars legend Ric Ocasek — for a minute now. Recently, they revealed that oddly ominous title, as well as two new tracks titled “The Waste Land” and “Ain’t Got Nobody.” Each piece of info has been heralded by a video. We can hardly wait to see what’s next.

20 Years Of ‘Crazy’: Liv Tyler Looks Back On The Aerosmith Video That Launched Her Career

by 2 mins ago

Liv Tyler may be taking a star turn in HBO’s new series “Aerosmith‘s video for “Crazy.”

Actually, scratch that, it was a long time ago. Twenty years, in fact, something that completely blindsided Tyler when we asked her about it on “The Leftovers” red carpet in New York.

“Oh my, what?” Tyler said, jaw dropping in surprise. “That is [bleep]ed up! 20 years!”

The video featured Alicia Silverstone in her third Aerosmith video appearance, taking a “Thelma & Louise” style teen road trip with Tyler while singing along to the song.

And in 1994 (when the video debuted), “Crazy” was one of the most requested videos on MTV (hey, we know that channel!), a fact that didn’t escape young Tyler.

“I remember I was in high school when I made it,” Tyler recalled, “and I would wake up in the morning for school, put on the MTV countdown. And when the video would come on I’d get so embarrassed, that’s when I would get in the shower, I remember that. Wow, that’s a long time ago.”

Even with the enormous success of the video, and the sure to be year long festivities celebrating the video’s release (okay, maybe not), Tyler doesn’t think there will be a shot-for-shot remake any time soon.

“No, that would be fun!” Tyler said, laughing about getting the band literally back together. “Me and Alicia walking around, the MILFs or something? With our children running around behind us?”

Hey, we’d watch that.

You can catch all of Liv Tyler’s amazing cryin’ every week ...

Forget ‘Frozen’ — Lorde Is Reading The OG Version Of The Tale

by 1 min ago

While the rest of the world is whiling away the hours by slowly slipping into insanity as “Let It Go” plays on loop in their heads, 17-year-old wunderkind, Lorde, is forgoing “Frozen” to read the tale it was based on. “The Snow Queen,” by Hans Christian Andersen.

The singer tweeted an illustration of a princess from the classic fairy tale on Tuesday, along with a caption describing the woman.

The story — which “Frozen” is pretty loosely based on — tells the tale of a magical hobgoblin mirror that only shows the bad in people.

One day, the mirror breaks, and shards of glass fall into people’s hearts and eyes, freezing their humanity. In particular, this fate befalls a boy named Kay, and his best friend Gerda embarks on a journey to save him from the dastardly Snow Queen. There’s also a talking crow in there because, why not?

I don’t know about you, but I’m totally down to check out some fairy tales now. You know, just curl up by some fire somewhere where it’s snowing, shove some Turkish delight into my gullet and marvel at the horror stories we used to recount to children with unmitigated glee.

You down to start a book club, Ella? I hear those Brothers Grimm dudes are dark.

Exclusive: ‘Arrow’ Bad Guy Deathstroke Gets A New Ongoing Series From DC Comics

by 5 mins ago

Starting in October, DC Comics is going bad with a brand new ongoing series featuring one of the biggest bad-asses in comics, Deathstroke. The unstable assassin, who once took down the Justice League single-handedly, may be better known to the public at large as the main villain in the second, blockbuster season of “Arrow.”

But his all-new solo adventures may bring him an even bigger audience, thanks to writer/artist Tony S. Daniel and co-artist Sandu Florea, who will team up for the monthly series.

And to sweeten the pot, DC is also releasing a brand new bust of Slade Wilson (the civilian name of Deathstroke), designed by Dc Comics Co-Publisher Jim Lee.

To find out more, we chatted over e-mail with Daniel about his take on the character, how the comic will tie into “Arrow” and where the book is going next. Plus, scroll down for your first look at the Deathstroke bust as well as more info on when you can pick it up in stores:

DSTROKE001_Cover

MTV News: So Tony, what drew you to Deathstroke? What makes him a compelling character for you?

Tony S. Daniel: I’ve always been a big Deathstroke fan, dating back to my teenage years and he’s only gotten more bad-ass with time. He’s an incredible character, whether you’re playing him in a video game or watching him on TV or reading him in a comic book. People love Deathstroke now more than ever due to all the avenues he’s available in, myself included.

EXCLUSIVE: BROODS’ ‘L.A.F’ Is Perfect For Those Hot Summer Nights

by 1 hour ago

The new look this summer and last seems to be … being from New Zealand. Case in point: Lorde first demolished the scene at this time last year with “Royals.” And this summer, we’re primed to be hearing a lot more about kiwi duo, BROODS, who are premiering their new single, “L.A.F,” exclusively on MTV Wednesday (July 2).

Lorde was hip to BROODS — probably because they share the same genius producer Joel Little — way back in October of last year, tweeting a link to their single “Bridges,” laced with tons of praise. (Don’t worry if this is the first you’re hearing of them. We’ve already established that Lorde is cooler than you and, besides, we have this shiny new track to listen to NOW.)

“Kissing in the hallways/ Turn off all the lights/ Fragments of a lost love dissolve into the night/ And I’ll never get this feeling out of my head/ And I never wanna be the one you forget,” sings the brother/sister duo’s Georgia Nott over a spare beat — a beat that then explodes into a jam like too much oxygen and crashing waves and making out for the first time under the stars.

Singer Georgia Nott told MTV News that the song is one of their most experimental — but it deals with something pretty universal: hanging with friends.

“It’s a friend group-type looking out for each other kind of song,” she said. “It’s about that phase that you go through when you hit ...

‘Sherlock’ Will Return For A Special And Three Episodes

by 5 mins ago

Rumors have been flying fast and furious for the past few weeks that the BBC’s hit series “Sherlock,” a modern reimagining of the great detective starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman would be returning sooner, rather than later. And now, it’s been confirmed by the channel itself: “Sherlock” will return with a special, followed by three, all new episodes.

First, there was a brief Twitter tease:

And then, it was confirmed:

That last tweet is a reference to the ending of the last episode of the show, which found spoilers Sherlock being exiled from the UK, only to immediately turn around once the face of his old, dead nemesis Moriarty showed up on every television screen in London with the ominous message, “Did you miss me?”

Lest you get too excited, just know that the brief wait teased by the BBC isn’t all that brief: shooting won’t begin on the special, and new episodes until next year:

Does that mean the special will air in the UK during the Summer? Or will it wait until the traditional Christmas airing, as specials are wont to do across the pond? And will we colonials in the US have to wiat even longer to see the new series aired on PBS?

No news on that either way, but just know that something is afoot:

You can follow Alex on Twitter (@azalben), but not in person because that would be weird.
