Prince Trolls The Internet By Writing A Song Based On A Meme

by 27 mins ago

Oh Purple One, your views on social media have changed so dramatically! Once, Prince (The Artist) wouldn’t deign to do anything on the World Wide Web, but no one is safe from the lure of the Internet. Not only does he now tweet at @3rdEyeGirl and Instagram, but he is working on a song that’s inspired by the #ThisCouldBeUsButYouPlayin meme.

Yes, it is Prince who will bring this unstoppable meme to life.

When the craze hit its peak, one of the most popular photos was this shot from Purple Rain of Prince and Apollonia cruising on a motorcycle. Although the photo that Prince tweeted is slightly different, the song snippet he tweeted along with it plainly features the line “This could be us, but you playing.”

The dropbox link has been overloaded because so many people have been trying to download the snippet, but hopefully Prince will grace us with the full version soon.

He is working on a new album called PLECTRUMELECTRUM with his band 3rdEyeGirl, but he also recently said he is working on a new Prince record as well. No word on when either of this will be released, or which one might include this new meme song.

While we’re on the subject, here’s some other awesome examples of the meme that never ends.

Pizza Or Chinese? The Cast Of HBO’s ‘The Leftovers’ Reveals Their Fave Leftovers

by 18 mins ago

HBO has a new show coming up called “The Leftovers.” It’s a serious exploration of what happens when a percentage of the world’s population completely disappears, leaving the rest of the world emotionally broken beyond repair.

The adaptation of Tom Perrotta’s critically acclaimed novel is run by “Lost” mastermind Damon Lindelof, directed by “Friday Night Lights” maestro Peter Berg, and includes a cast of incredible actors like Justin Theroux, Liv Tyler, Amy Brenneman Christopher Eccleston and a talented group of young newcomers.

So naturally, when MTV News caught up with all of them on the red carpet in New York, we asked them what’s hanging out in their fridge:

We’ll let you discover exactly which leftovers the cast of “The Leftovers” likes best, but suffice to say it’s a three-way tie between pizza, chinese food and surprise entry Thanksgiving dinner.

Bonus points to Liv Tyler for having the most adorable answer possible.

“The Leftovers” premieres on HBO, Sunday June 27 at 10 p.m. ET.

The Borg, And 9 Other Possibilities For ‘Star Trek 3′ Villains

by 36 mins ago

News has been relatively mum on “Star Trek 3,” the sequel to last year’s “Star Trek Into Darkness” since former co-writer Robert Orci took over directing duties from J.J. Abrams. Now, Orci has gone on record with the “Humans From Earth” podcast (and helpfully transcribed by TrekMovie), teasing just where the next film in the series will be set:

“In [Into Darkness] they set out finally where the original series started,” Orci said. “The first two films – especially the 2009 [Star Trek] – was an origin story. It was about them coming together. So they weren’t the characters they were in the original series. They were growing into them and that continues on in the second movie. So in this movie they are closer than they are to the original series characters than you have ever seen. They have set off on their five-year mission. So their adventure is going to be in deep space.”

This parallels where the official tie-in comic from IDW has been heading, as it follows the adventures of Captain Kirk and crew between the movies. Though various adventures have pulled the Enterprise back towards Earth’s orbit, they’ve begun that fabled five-year journey in earnest.

But with Earth out of the running, where, exactly, will “ST3″ pull its bad guys from? Here are 10 possibilities of villains for the sequel:

This seems to be the most obvious set up, given “Into Darkness” was promising the coming ...

High School Students Lose The Fight To Ban ‘Redskins’ From Paper

by 42 mins ago

The United States Patent and Trademark Office may have recently deemed the term “redskin” “disparaging to Native Americans,” but one Pennsylvania high school has just struck down students’ efforts to ban the word from their school paper.

At a meeting Thursday night, Neshaminy School Board members approved a policy that would force the editors of “The Playwickian” to print the name of the mascot, the Redskins, in letters to the editor and in editorials.

“The term ‘Redskins’ when referring to the School District mascot and when used to express the writer’s viewpoint about the term shall not be construed as a racial or ethnic slur and is not intended by the Board of School Directors as a racial or ethnic slur,” the policy states.

Students can, however, censor the word in news articles or if it’s issued as a racial slur, according to the policy. Still, the policy leaves it open for school officials to have the final say on stories, stating that they can hold content from publication for “any reasonable reason.”

The student editors speaking out in favor of nixing the word were disappointed with the outcome, but not surprised by the school’s choice.

“I just felt reaffirmed about my opinions of the school board members — that they weren’t really taking into consideration anything but their personal feelings,” 17-year-old sports editor Reed Hennessy told MTV News. “They’ve received so many letters from [everyone from] alumni to professors — journalism institutions — they didn’t really take that into consideration.”

Vanessa Carlton’s New Album Is Delayed Because Of A Baby Bump

by 2 mins ago

Remember feeling all the feels to Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” back in the ancient year of 2002? Well, get ready to feel some more, because not only are we getting some new music from Vanessa next year, but the singer took to her Facebook and Twitter accounts today to announce her pregnancy!

In a quiet ceremony officiated by none other than Stevie Nicks, Vanessa married Rhode Island alt-country act Deer Tick’s lead singer John McCauley late last year. Now, the pair are expecting their first child. In more adorable couple news, they collaborated on a song called “In Our Time” for Deer Tick’s album Negativity last year, so odds are John will show up on Vanessa’s upcoming record Liberman too.

For now though, the focus is on the new member of their family. “I can now reveal the reason as to why Liberman will not be released until next summer,” Carlton wrote on her Facebook page. “No, those aren’t a bunch of croissants. We’re expecting a baby. It’s healthy and moving around like a champ. I’m bummed to delay the album because it’s so special to me and the perfect combination of England and Tennessee. When I put the record on it feels like medicine. I hope it does the same for you…in due time! Thanks for sticking with me. John, Victor and I are over the moon.”

But who is Victor you ask? That’s Vanessa Carlton’s long hair doxie, a Read More →

Tyrion Lannister Cheats On Ser Pounce With Grumpy Cat: See The Hot Pic

by 16 mins ago

Nobody tell Ser Pounce, but Tyrion is cheating on him with another famous cat, as this amazing picture proves:

Peter Dinklage And Grumpy Cat

We don’t know where this picture of Peter Dinklage and Grumpy Cat came from, other than it looks like a party worthy of King’s Landing itself. That dude in the back sure seems psyched, at least.

Also, if anything ever happens to Peter Dinklage, it looks like Grumpy Cat could jump right in as everyone’s favorite imp on “Game Of Thrones” without missing a beat.

Now someone snag a picture of Arya with L’il Bub, and we can shut down the internet for the day.

Watch Sia Recreate That Crazy ‘Chandelier’ Video With The New York City Gay Men’s Chorus

by 37 mins ago

Sia has basically started a new craze. Let’s call it Greta Garboing: IE, making like the famously reclusive actress and refusing to show her face in public settings. The most recent act of Garboing? That would be her performance at Logo’s “Trailblazers,” during which she sang (we’re assuming that was her) with her back the camera.

Backed by the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus — in Sia wigs — the singer belted out her single “Chandelier” while choreographer Ryan Heffington performed an interpretive dance reminiscent of the music video for that jam.

The whole thing was pretty similar to Sia’s appearance on “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” which saw actress Lena Dunham stepping into the spotlight while the musician lay facedown on a bed.

Girl, we love the way you tease! Check out the performance below:

‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’: What the Critics Think of Michael Bay’s Latest

by 5 mins ago

So it looks like Mark Wahlberg isn’t the only one who’s found a Transformer, you guys. As the latest installment in Michael Bay‘s robotic movie franchise, “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” hits theaters, Optimus Prime and his buddies have gotten the once-over from film critics. You know, in order to help you decide whether or not the nearly 3-hours-long (really) robot epic is worth your dollars and time.

Eschewing the Shia LaBeouf-iness of installments past, the newest iteration finds Wahlberg in the hero’s seat (one of the main reasons the sequel got made), with the likes of Stanley Tucci and Kelsey Grammer along for the ride. After a mega-battle has left a once-great city in utter ruins, a new form of evil steps up to the plate in an attempt to change the course of history and take over the world. Thanks to Optimus Prime and the other Autobots (alongside Wahlberg, too, of course), a war of good versus evil is fought in the name of saving the planet.

Still the question begs: should you see it? Well that’s what critics are for — to help inform your opinion before heading out to IMAX it up. Whether you do is up to you, but we’ve rounded up a few opinions in the meantime to help you make up your mind.

Mark Wahlberg Does the Heavy Lifting
“Mark Wahlberg proves again that he has wonderful comedic timing and delivery, on top of serving as a good action ...
