Daylyt Has Not Officially Signed With Shady Records

by 5 mins ago

It’s been a busy week for Los Angeles-based rapper Daylyt.

First, there was his appearance on Ab-Soul’s album, These Days…, which he closes with an a cappella battle against the T.D.E. MC on the track “W.R.O.H.” That same day, Day posted a video where he spoke on moving away from battle rapping and signing to Shady Records.

“Big shouts out to Eminem for making that legit,” he says toward the end of the video. “Daylyt is an official member of Shady Records.”

However, while praising the rapper’s skill, a source at Shady has told MTV News that he has not inked a deal with the label.

“Daylyt is immensely talented and is cool with everyone up here but is not signed to Shady. #totalslaughter,” the source said.

That said, Daylyt is Shady-affiliated in some ways. He’s featured on “The Road to Total Slaughter,” Slaughterhouse’s recently-launched reality show that features eight battle rappers.

“We’re gonna put those eight guys in a house, they’re gonna live with each other for a week and you’re gonna be able to see them prepare for it as well,” Joe Budden said on “RapFix Live” in January.

“It’s giving these guys a platform that they didn’t have before,” Royce added. “Everybody knows they’re great if you follow them, so the goal is to put not only them, but battle rap itself, on this platform.”

9 Times Logo TV’s ‘Trailblazers’ Special Made Us Think — And Cry

by 5 mins ago

We just finished watching Logo’s “Trailblazers” — a pioneering event to honor the luminaries who’ve made historic strides for LGBT equality — and the night could not have been more inspiring, thought-provoking, or emotional.

Held at The Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, one of the first churches to host gay marriages in New York, “Trailblazers” honored celebrities, politicians, activists, and trendsetters who’ve championed the cause of gay rights, and, above all else equal rights.

“Trailblazers” couldn’t have come at a better time — the night aligned with the one-year anniversary of DOMA (Defense Of Marriage Act) being struck down by the Supreme Court, the 45th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots and the rise of marriage equality in the U.S. (nearly half of the states have passed laws legalizing some form of same-sex marriage).

With guests like Demi Lovato, Pete Wentz, Jared Leto and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis — and performances from A Great Big World and Sia — it was certainly a night that will go down in the history books.

Check out the nine most emotional — and thought-provoking — highlights from Logo TV’s “Trailblazers” special below:

1). Couples Giving Love To Edie Windsor

One year ago, the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was struck down by the Supreme Court — in no small part due to Edie Windsor and her late spouse Thea Spyer. After Spyer died, she left her estate to Windsor, but because of DOMA, Edie was unable to claim the ...

Hear A Preview Of Chris Brown’s ‘New Flame’ With Rick Ross And Usher

by 5 mins ago

Chris Brown’s “Loyal” is still torching airwaves, but it looks like Breezy is ready to hit us with more heat as he prepares to drop his album X later this year.

On Thursday (June 26), Breezy posted an Instagram video of what appears to be an upcoming single. The track, called “New Flame,” features Rick Ross and Usher, according to the artwork.

“You gon’ be my baby, love me, love you crazy/ Tell me if you with it, baby come and get it/ Try a new thing, and let’s spark a new flame,” Brown sings in the brief audio clip. Usher sounds poised to jump in, but the snippet cuts out. We’ll have to wait for the full version to hear his and Rozay’s part.

We’ve been anticipating X for a while, and don’t know exactly when we’ll get it, but we may get another collaboration between Breezy and Ty Dolla $ign, who wrote “Loyal.”

“After ['Loyal'], that’s when we linked up, and we just started doing a whole bunch of sh–,” Ty told MTV News earlier this month, adding that they’ve got “a lot” on the way. “I’m featured on it; other sh– that’s for him — everything.”

Like we’ve said before…how ’bout dropping that album, CB?

Batfleck Selfie? It Exists, And It’s ‘Pretty Amazing’

by 11 mins ago

Somewhere out there, there’s a Batfleck selfie.

And that’s not all we found out when MTV News caught up with actress Carrie Coon on the red carpet for HBO’s “The Leftovers,” a new show which features Coon as one of the people remaining on Earth when a large chunk of the population just up and disappears.

Though Coon is only featured in one scene in the pilot, her role will greatly expand over the course of the series; and for the Broadway favorite actress, this is just the start of her media domination in 2014. Right after “The Leftovers” is done airing, she’ll be seen on screens this October in David Fincher’s adaptation of “Gone Girl,” in which she co-stars as Ben Affleck’s sister Margo.

“I am in the middle of a crazy year, yeah,” Coon said with an excited glint in her eyes. “It’s a crazy thing. It doesn’t always happen like this, so my husband and I are just trying to enjoy it and have a great time. It doesn’t come along all the time. It’s amazing.”

Though both “The Leftovers” and “Gone Girl” are based on books, the characters Coon plays couldn’t be farther away from each other. Where “Leftovers” character Nora Durst is emotionally destroyed when her entire family disappears, making her the biggest recipient of tragedy in her entire town, Margo (nicknamed Go) in “Gone Girl” is an acerbic indie chick with strong family ties to her bro, Nick.

“They’re very different people,” Coon said on ...

Cam’ron Gets His Tony Soprano On In ‘Funeral’

by 13 mins ago

Cam’ron proclaimed himself the Boss of all Bosses with the title of his 2009 mixtape, and five years later he’s flexing some mafia-esque power, with his new video, “Funeral.”

“I’m at my man funeral, lookin’ at his girl cry/ Preacher sayin’ he a good man, man that’s a f–kin’ lie,” Cam raps to open the song, released on Thursday (June 26). He then goes on to tell the story of the deceased, a former friend who flipped and cooperated with law enforcement.

“For two years he wore a wire, so we all here today,” Cam laments later in the video, directed by BLACKPRO, which uses primarily black-and-while to tell the track’s story.

Cam felt crossed, and he had to get his boss on: “We gon’ have to kill him, yo/ ‘Cause I’m more like the Sopranos/ I’m talkin’ Tony, Paulie, Silvio.”

This track will be included on Cam’s upcoming 1st of the Month, Volume 1, which will be the first installment of his scheduled monthly EPs.

Details about the releases are somewhat limited, but we do know that Cam has something in the can with Nicki Minaj, which he recently previewed on Instagram.

Plus, he’s got more special guests planned. “The people that’s gonna be on this project is Nicki Minaj, 2 Chainz, Wiz Khalifa, Estelle and Gunplay, so far,” he told MTV News last month.

1st of the Month, Volume 1 is set to drop July 1.

Ja Rule Recalls The Time He Hit 50 Cent With A Bat…And Then A Crutch

by 1 min ago

The feud between 50 Cent and Ja Rule has been lengthy and well-documented. From dis records to calling each other out in interviews, the two Queens natives have an extensive history of trading blows. Now, in Ja’s new book, Unruly: The Highs and Lows of Being a Man, out next month, he dishes on some physical blows that he says he dealt his rival.

“50 tried to swing on me, but I dipped, then I hit him with the baby Louisville Slugger,” he writes, referring to a 2000 peace summit in Atlanta, according to the New York Daily News. “Bam! I dropped the bat. I pulled the shirt over his head. I started catching him left, right, uppercut.”

The purported violence didn’t stop there, though. Ja recalls another incident from that year, when 50 was stabbed at the Hit Factory in NYC.

“I hit him with the crutch,” he says of the altercation. “We proceeded to whip his ass. I was putting in my work. 50 was crunched in the corner. I slammed the big Tannoy speaker down on him.”

Thankfully, of late, cooler heads have prevailed. Last year Ja tweeted that he and Fif ended up on the same flight with no problems.

‘The Maze Runner’: New Movie Books Make A Run For Your Money

by 12 mins ago

“The Maze Runner,” the movie adaptation of James Dashner’s best selling novel, doesn’t open until September 19. Which means you have plenty of time to prep for the trippy, twisty movie starring “Teen Wolf” hunk Dylan O’Brien, MTV Movie Award winner Will Poulter, and also some other guys we can’t make all about us.

To get you ready to run the maze, Random House (via Delacorte Books for Young Readers) is releasing two volumes on August 5 that tie into the movie. The first is called “Inside The Maze Runner: The Guide To The Glade,” after the home of the amnesiac boys at the center of the story.

The book will include over 100 photos from the movie, details about the whole “Maze Runner” series, and profiles on the characters and actors.

The second is a re-release of the novel that started it all, “The Maze Runner,” with a new trade dress copying the poster for the movie. As you might be able to read (hopefully, if you’re thinking about picking up books, you can read. Also if you are reading this), the novel now comes packaged with stickers and photos from the movie.

And though it doesn’t have a movie tie-in, the four book series will be released in a box set on July 8. You’ll be able to pick up all of these in finer book stores near you, and stay tuned for plenty more “Maze Runner” as we get closer to the September premiere!

‘Orange Is The New Black’ Star Reveals Fruity Origins of Handy-J Success

by 1 min ago

It would be very easy for us to be immature about this, but: “Orange is the New Black” has some tricks up their prison jumper sleeves when it comes to bringing authenticity to the jailed-up drama. Like, say, how to make a faux-handy-J done in secrecy in a closet come to life on your Netflix screen. The trick is utilizing just the right sort of props.

And if you’ve ever been in a middle school sex ed class, their answer shouldn’t surprise you. MTV spoke to Matt McGorry, a.k.a. Bennett, to get the scoop (or should we say peel? No? OK that’s fine), while on the red carpet of Logo TV’s “Trailblazers” special.

I mean, it is a very handy way to utilize craft services, we’ll give them that. But we’re not so sure McGorry should be putting it on his Cheerios afterwards.

“Trailblazers,” a one-hour show honoring pioneers in the fight for LGBT equality will premiere on June 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Too much exuberance for one person. Follow her on Twitter @alicialutes.

Shane Black’s ‘Predator’ Reboot Is Actually A Sequel… But To What?

by 8 mins ago

As previously reported, Shane Black (along with partner/co-writer Fred Dekker) is rebooting the “Predator” series for FOX. Except, it turns out, the movie isn’t a reboot at all: it’s a sequel.

Collider reached out to director Black to find out more, and got the following quote: “As far as Fred and I are concerned anyway, why start over, when you’ve all this rich mythology yet to mine?”

Which is all fine and good, but begs a major question: exactly which “Predator” movie is the Black film going to be a sequel to? Because, in case you weren’t aware, there have been several attempts to rejuvenate the franchise, all with varying results.

With that in mind, here’s every possibility of what the new “Predator” could be a sequel to:

“Predator 2″
1990′s “Predator 2″ starred Danny Glover, who also anchored Shane Black’s “Lethal Weapon” series. It’s the last film set on Earth in the main “Predator” continuity and probably the last movie in the series casual fans truly remember. The movie ends with Glover’s LAPD officer taking down one of the alien hunters and getting ready for their eventual return. Pal Glover up with the only survivor of the original, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and you have a blockbuster return for the series everyone would salivate for.

“Predators”
Technically the next film in the series, the Robert Rodriguez-directed 2010 movie takes place on an alien planet the Predators use as a game preserve and ends with a cliffhanger as Adrien Brody and Alice Braga manage to ...
