Just in time for Opening Day, Major League Baseball and MTV have announced the premiere date for their brand-new, behind-the-scenes series from executive producer — and reigning World Series MVP — David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox.
“Off The Bat” will debut on Tuesday, April 1 at 11 p.m. ET/PT on MTV2, and will air in that Tuesday timeslot throughout the 2014 season.
But today, we’ve got an exclusive sneak peek of everything you can expect on the show … and let’s just say VORP isn’t mentioned once.
Hosted by MTV’s Sway, rapper Fat Joe and “Girl Code” and “Guy Code” stars Chris Distefano and Melanie Iglesias, is where MLB players share their love for pop culture and entertainment, bringing fans a whole new way to view the game.
In addition to Ortiz, MLB All-Stars Robinson Cano, Adam Jones and Craig Kimbrel — plus 2013 Rookies of the Year Jose Fernandez and Wil Myers — have signed on to serve as executive producers of individual “Off The Bat” episodes. Now that’s a lineup.
And to celebrate the beginning of the 2014 season, and the launch of “Off The Bat,” MTV and MLB will host an Opening Day Block Party on Sunday, March 30 from 1-5 p.m. ET in New York City on 4th Street between Broadway and Lafayette Street. The free party will feature special celebrity guests, the hosts of the show, and plenty of food, games and raffles.
