GULF SHORES, Alabama — As if a typical Bassnectar show weren’t epic enough, the ante was officially upped Saturday night (May 18) at the Hangout Fest.
After showering the beach with heavy bass and a light show, the dubstep master’s set was given a surprise ending.

“Lucy in the Sun With Diamonds” filled the air as everyone’s favorite freestyle DJ ended his ocean-side performance. After his performance sampled the likes of Jay Z and the Beatles, the die-hard fans were engaged and grateful for whatever Lorin Ashton wanted to play for them. As his closing track dropped, so did dozens of beach balls across the thousands of hands in the air. Some bigger than the fans themselves, the balls rolled across the crowd, creating an incredible spectacle with Bassnectar’s infamous light show as a fitting backdrop.
Hangout Fest has been no stranger to inspiring electronic presentations, hosting Afrojack last night and Wolfgang Gartner earlier Saturday. On Sunday, they will end the three-day festival with a bang, with sets from Steve Aoki and Porter Robinson in the Boom Boom Tent.

Even with Hangout Fest behind him, Bassnectar is far from finished bringing his hard-core fan family out to dance. His headlining slot at HARD Summer 2013 and Electric Zoo have already been announced, and we’re sure many other appearances from the beloved DJ are on the horizon.
For now, stick with MTV and VH1 through the weekend for all things Hangout.
