Betsey Johnson’s Spring 2015 collection was a “love song to LGBT marriages.” The the show–entitled “Prenup”–featured every iteration of bride in a parade of taffeta and tulle in shades of white, metallics and pastel. Editors were sent packets of rice with their invitations.
Elaborating further on the collection’s theme, Johnson said:
“[It’s] trendy and transgendy. Prenup is a part of the whole world of straight brides, gay brides, transgender marriages, everybody getting married. Finally, freedom. The clothes are my first shot at all kinds of brides. It’s been the most fun to work on this show. A lot of kind of new, more abstract ideas: see-through plastic dresses and dresses made out of scuba fabric and horse hair.”

The runway opened with SoulCycle’s Stacey Griffith in a white suit and black and white slip-ons, accompanied by a model in a clad in feathers and fringe. Both were matching “Prenup” necklaces.

The always irreverent designer closed out the show with a Betsey signature: a cartwheel and splits, this time with one of her granddaughters. She left the stage in the best way possible: carried off by Needles.
