Blake Shelton ‘Protected’ Holly Tucker From ‘Voice’ Critic

Don’t mess with the Shelton. Blake Shelton, that is. “The Voice” coach caught everyone’s attention on Twitter after firing off a multitude of tweets calling out a mean-spirited critic who brushed off the talents of Tuesday night’s eliminee, Holly Tucker.

Music critic for the Houston Chronicle, Joey Guerra, had sarcastic words to share following Tucker’s elimination tweeting, “#TheVoice sends one singer back to Texas. Don’t worry, it’s not the one we care about.”

This did not sit well with Tucker’s coach, who unleashed his wrath, calling Guerra “chicken sh–,” adding, “It’s people like you @joeyguerra that make me sick … Holly is not only a talented singer but a great person that’s simply chasing a dream..”

Tucker was touched by Shelton’s very public gesture, telling MTV News, “It means the world to see Blake was there to rush to my defense. You know, he’s my coach. I’ll always think of him that way. He’s kind of like a father figure, in a way, just that he wants to protect us. He wants the best for us. He wants to see us succeed.”

Shelton later apologized for his outburst, tweeting “I’m sorry for going off ya’ll … But I am passionate about encouraging young people to follow their dreams.. We GOOD people don’t need hate.”

Team Blake’s powerhouse country vocalist and top six finalist agrees, even taking the high road in thanking her critic, “It’s just fuel for my fire. It’s OK to have an opinion, like not everybody’s going to like what I do. I understand that, but it’s my motivation. It’s what keeps me going.”

Admitting the elimination was a tough pill to swallow, she is grateful to the show for helping a formerly timid Tucker blossom on a personal level, saying it “helped me loosen up a little bit.”

Tucker, who finds inspiration from other talent competition stars like Carrie Underwood, has a bright future ahead, fielding calls from record labels in Nashville. She’s excited for the new chapter in her life and is putting all the negativity behind her. “It’s going to be a good ride, whatever happens,” she says. As for who she thinks will take “The Voice” crown? “Personally, I’m Team Blake all the way.”

“The Voice” returns on Monday as the final five compete in the finale.
