There were still more questions than answers on Tuesday morning (April 16) about who was behind the deadly bombings at the Boston Marathon on Monday that killed three people and wounded at least 144. President Obama vowed to a grieving nation that any individuals or groups responsible will feel the “full weight of justice.”
The attacks struck a chord with a number of musicians and actors with Boston ties, who posted their thoughts, prayers and anguish throughout the day.
Oscar-winner Ben Affleck, who grew up in Boston and based two of his films, “The Town” and “Gone Baby Gone,” there, wrote on his Facebook page, “Such a senseless and tragic day. My family and I send our love to our beloved and resilient Boston.”
New Kids on the Block singer Joey McIntyre ran the marathon and said the bombs went off five minutes after he finished the race. “I’m OK, but I’m sure there are many hurt,” he tweeted, “I don’t know what to say. I feel for everybody involved with the Boston Marathon. My family is OK. I am OK. Gonna take a while to process.”
One of the most moving statements came from comedian Patton Oswalt, who is known for his typically sardonic, witty tweets about current events. “I remember, when 9/11 went down, my reaction was, ‘Well, I’ve had it with humanity,'” he wrote on his Facebook page. “But I was wrong. I don’t know what’s going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem. One human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths. But here’s what I DO know. If it’s one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet. You watch the videos of the carnage and there are people running TOWARDS the destruction to help out … So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, ‘The good outnumber you, and we always will.'”
Another Boston native, “Pain and Gain” star Mark Wahlberg, offered his wishes as well, tweeting, “Thoughts and prayers with my hometown Boston today.”
