Can Kanye West Get The ‘Fresh Prince’ To Rap Again?

If anyone can persuade Will Smith to return to music it’s Kanye West right? Well, not exactly.

“I’ve been messing around with Kanye. We were in the studio a couple of times,” Big Willie confirmed to HipHollywood.com during an interview to promote his upcoming movie, He continued, “I might get the bug. I’m not gonna do it unless I’m truly inspired, but ‘Ye’s been pushing me a little bit.”

Back in February, West and Smith were photographed together in a studio in Brazil. And it’s been eight years since Will dropped his last solo LP, Lost and Found. The gold-selling album was led by the top 10 Billboard hit “Switch,” which featured contributions from Snoop Dogg, Ludacris and Mary J. Blige.

If inspiration does strike Smith, though, he’ll have to balance music with Hollywood. On May 31, the former Fresh Prince’s “After Earth” will hit theaters. The M. Night Shyamalan-directed, post-apocalyptic adventure also stars Smith’s son Jaden.

Though Smith said that West has been encouraging him to get back into music, the veteran actor/rapper didn’t give any indication about whether Kanye was also pushing for a collaboration. It wouldn’t be inconceivable: Yeezy referenced Will Smith and his 2006 film “The Pursuit of Happyness” on “Champion” when he rhymed: “We was sorta like Will Smith and his son/ In the movie, I ain’t talkin’ ’bout the rich ones.” More recently, on Rihanna’s “Diamonds” remix, ‘Ye spit a few bars from the “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” theme song.
