‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Secrets: The Cast Weighs In

has finally arrived, and with it comes a whole bunch of new mysteries.

Indeed, no other solo superhero act in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe has featured so many game-changing moments. From the dissolution of high-powered structures to the disappearance of fan-favorite characters, the events of “Winter Soldier” are sure to reverberate throughout the coming Marvel movies, especially and the next “Captain America.”

MTV News spoke with the “Winter Soldier” cast for their take on some of the film’s greatest mysteries. Read on for their answers, but be aware: SPOILERS are ahead.

What’s Next For Nick Fury?
The legendary one-eyed spy is not only without a job at the end of “Winter Soldier,” he’s also presumed dead to the world at large. Without the apparatus of S.H.I.E.L.D. at his disposal anymore, and without the certain advantages of being, you know, alive, it’s worth wondering: Who is Nick Fury now?

“He’s a very dangerous spy again,” says Samuel L. Jackson. “He’s somebody who’s disappeared into the woodwork. You don’t know where he’s going to pop up. Hopefully it’ll be somewhere during the right movie.”

What’s Next For Winter Soldier?
For a movie subtitled “The Winter Soldier,” the titular brainwashed assassin sure spent some time on the sidelines, with little more than a handful of dialogue through the whole film. But by the end of the film, Winter Soldier remembers who he is: Bucky Barnes, long thought dead in World War II, oldest friend of Steve Rogers. Can we expect that thread to continue in the next “Captain America” movie?

“The Winter Soldier story is not finished yet,” Joe and Anthony Russo confirm. “We at least know there will be more of the Winter Soldier.”

Christopher Markus, co-writer of “Winter Soldier,” adds of the character: “We left a few threads out there. Where he is, what he’s doing and what he’s thinking, is one of them.”

What’s Next For Agent 13?
If Winter Soldier spent the film operating in the shadows, then Emily VanCamp’s Agent 13 was virtually benched. The “Revenge” star plays a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent without a proper name for most of the movie, identified as “Sharon” by the final scene. Her last name remains a mystery to viewers — though fans of the comics know exactly who she is.

“Anybody who is a Captain America fan knows that Agent 13 is Sharon Carter,” says VanCamp. Whether or not that identity gets further revealed in “Captain America 3” remains to be seen.

What’s Next For Peggy Carter?
Speaking of the Carter family, how about that Peggy Carter scene? Hayley Atwell’s brief on-screen reunion with Chris Evans was one of the more touching moments of the film, and a great callback to their romance in “Captain America: The First Avenger.”

Clearly, in her present form, there’s not a whole lot more that Peggy can do on Steve Rogers’ behalf. She’s deep in her 90s and losing her health, both physically and mentally. However, that might not be the end of Peggy after all. Rumor has it that there’s an “Agent Carter” television series in the works, to debut sometime in the fall or early in 2015.

“I might be,” Atwell teases about the subject of starring in her own Peggy spinoff. “I would [do it] if I was asked. That’s all I can say, really.”

Sounds like a yes to us!

What’s Next For Hawkeye?
No, you didn’t sleep through the big Hawkeye scene in “Winter Soldier.” He wasn’t in the movie. And that’s exactly our point: Where was Hawkeye? Eagle-eyed sharpshooter Clint Barton isn’t just an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., he’s also one of Black Widow’s closest allies. Why wasn’t he around to help her out in the “Captain America” sequel?

“We talked about it a lot,” says co-writer Stephen McFeely about the decision to exclude Hawkeye. In the end, they chose not to bring the archer into the mix, for reasons viewers will understand in little more than a year. “In ‘Avengers 2,’ you’ll see where he was.”

What’s Next For Cap, Widow and Falcon?
Star-spangled Steve Rogers, shadow-strewn Natasha Romanoff and high-flying hero Sam Wilson will all be back for “Captain America 3,” one assumes. But we’ll see them sooner than that, when “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” arrives in May 2015. Of course, the cast’s lips are sealed when it comes to Joss Whedon’s “Avengers” sequel.

“I can’t tell you anything about ‘Age of Ultron,'” Evans laughs.

Evans and Scarlett Johansson are confirmed for the “Avengers” sequel already. As for Anthony Mackie as Falcon, who knows if he’ll get to fly in Earth’s mightiest skies. But given his connection with Cap at the end of “Winter Soldier,” it’s not out of the question.

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is in theaters now.
