James Franco Is Planning An Epic ‘Rant’ For The Big Screen

by 1 min ago

Looks like James Franco’s cooking up another epic rant.

Don’t worry; this won’t be of the expletive-filled Twitter variety.

The multi-faceted actor confirmed on Instagram Thursday (September 11) night that he’s developing a movie based on Chuck Palaniuk’s novel “Rant.”

“ME AND CHUCK PALAHNIUK!!!!!!!!!!!!! and my homegirl, @pamromanowski!!!!!,” he wrote in the caption next to a picture of Palaniuk’s 2007 novel and a deranged, smiley headshot of himself.

And just to quell any concerns that the “Sausage Party” actor’s talking out of his head, the “Fight Club” writer himself corroborated the report.

“Rant” is the childhood nickname of the story’s protagonist Buster, who grew up in the rural town of Middleton, where he loved to get bitten by rabid animals, snakes and spiders. Buster later moves to an urban area where residents hail from two factions: Daytimers and Nighttimers.

Currently, Franco is working on an adaptation of Steve Erickson’s novel Zeroville.

New Jersey Upholds Decision To Protect Gay Children With This Progressive Law

by 9 mins ago

On Thursday (September 11), a New Jersey federal appeals court upheld the state’s ban on counseling and therapy services that seek to change sexual orientation in LGBT children.

The unanimous 3-0 vote by a panel of the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals declared that the ban didn’t violate the religious rights or free speech of the counselors who seek to alter the behavior and beliefs of homosexual minors.

Republican Governor Chris Christie signed the ban into law in August of 2013, and the decision made today upholds his decision.

Circuit Judge D. Brooks Smith said that the ban lined up with the state’s interest in protecting minors from treatments that are unprofessional or ineffective. He also cited concerns voiced by the American Psychiatric Association and other groups, who link this kind of therapy with anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts.

Continuing on, Smith notes that lawmakers can “rely on the empirical judgment of independent professional organizations that possess specialized knowledge and experience… particularly when this community has spoken with such urgency and solidarity.”

For years, homosexuality was legally classified as a mental disorder, but in 1973 the American Psychiatric Association moved to declassify the condition. Still, many Conservative and religious group are against it and believe that sexual orientation can be altered.

Plaintiffs challening the ban included two organizations—theNational Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality and the American Association of Christian Counselors—and two counselors.

Their lawyer, Mathew Staver, said that they will appeal ...

A Teen Superhero Show Might Be Coming To TNT

by 14 mins ago

Teen super heroes are about to take TNT by storm.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the latest comic classic to go live action might be DC Comics “Titans.” Warner Bros., who owns DC Comics, is in talks with TNT to run the series. The two parties are reportedly close to a deal for the pilot, which would star Batman’s longtime sidekick Dick Grayson. Both WB and TNT are, of course, owned by parent company Time Warner, so the pairing makes perfect sense.

“Titans” had a stint back in the early 2000s as an animated series on The WB, and Cartoon Network still airs an animated take on the series called “Teen Titans Go!” However, this reboot would aim to take the teen concept to a more adult place.

The Teen Titans first showed up in 1964 as sidekicks for the Justice League, but the show would lean more toward the 1980′s comic “New Titans” that emphasized a mid-twenties Robin figure morphing into Nightwing.

The inaugural episode would explore how Grayson “emerges from the shadow of Batman to become Nightwing, the leader of a fearless band of new Super Heroes including Starfire, Raven and many others.”

Writer Akiva Goldsman (“I Am Legend”) has been tapped to pen and executive produce along with Warner Horizon Television. Goldsman was previously attached to a Warner Bros. “Teen Titans” movie that never came to fruition.

If “Titans” gets the green light, it will join DC Comics’ legion of hero shows, which includes The CW’s “Arrow” the

This Teen’s Brilliant Invention Could Prevent Accidental Gun Deaths

by 22 mins ago

17-year-old Kai Kloepfer’s invention might’ve just solved one of America’s biggest issues—accidental gun deaths.

The teen has invented a device that uses fingerprint sensors to prohibit anyone but certified users from firing the weapon. The main focus of the device is to prevent children and teens from injuring or killing themselves after accidentally stumbling upon firearms.

“Since 1979, two and a half times as many children and teens have been killed with firearms as the total number of US military casualties in the Iraq, Vietnam and Afghanistan wars combined,” Kloepfer told Fox 31 Denver News, who interviewed him about the invention. “That’s a statistic that we could fix.”

Last year, the Colorado teen entered his biometric touch sensor in the 2013 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair and placed 34th out of 7 million student entries. Now, Smart Tech Challenges Foundation has awarded him $50,000 to make the invention into a reality.

The grant is in conjunction with Smart Tech for Firearms Challenge, a program that seeks to improve firearm safety and reduce gun-related tragedies by emphasizing personalization features and locking devices on firearms.

“All you have to do is pick the firearm up and the way you naturally rest your hand on the firearm unlocks it,” Kloepfer said. “So you don’t have to swipe or anything like that.”

by 17 mins ago

It’s time to put those rumors to bed and stop the media parade around Iggy Azalea‘s sex life. While it’s all fun and games to gawk at some throwback yearbook photos (I mean, really we’ve all been there), illegally prying into the private lives of celebrities is despicable behavior that needs to stop.

Iggy took to Twitter today to deny TMZ‘s allegations that Vivid Entertainment exec Steven Hirsch offered millions to the “Black Widow” rapper for an alleged tape featuring her and an ex-boyfriend.

But she didn’t just deny the allegations, she also reasserted that anyone who releases other people’s intimate moments against their will is a sex offender, end of story. Here’s her full response:

Watch Tigran Avetisyan Teach Us What A ‘Butt Seam’ Is

by 16 mins ago

Rounding out our series of designer profiles from the VFiles Made Fashion show is Tigran Avetisyan. The Moscow-based graduate of Central Saint Martins exhibited a primary-colored unisex collection of swishy garments inspired by his travels. More specifically, Tigran was inspired by five fragrance bottles he encountered frequently in airport Duty Free stores across the globe.

The collection is a frenetic mishmash of ripped print pieces heat-transferred onto oversized polyester t-shirts, shorts, tunics and trenches. No one piece is alike, no crease or slight detail is replicable, everything is one-of-one. The clothes are so light Tigran told us he felt like he was naked—which, in the spring and summer is SUCH a boon. Also, he taught me what a “butt seam” is, so there’s that.

Instagram’s Richest Teen Is Currently In Jail And Not Feeling Very Lavish

by 27 mins ago

Param Sharma, aka itslavishbitch, has finally angered the wrong person. The self-proclaimed “rich kid” apparently ended up behind bars with a 90-day sentence for selling a stolen iPhone on Craigslist.

See, in California we have this law, specifically Penal Code 485 PC, that breaks the “finders keepers, losers weepers” mantra we all learned and lived by in our childhood years. It’s a pretty serious offense, and if you’re convicted of the misdemeanor you face up to one year in a county jail and a maximum $1,000 fine. That’s pretty steep.

Sharma’s lawyer, Andrew Shalaby, spoke with Buzzfeed to explain his client’s side of the story. Allegedly Sharma posted the iPhone on Craigslist as a favor for a friend who found the lost item and didn’t have the technological means to list it himself. The person who purchased the phone discovered it was tagged as a stolen item while trying to activate the device and later presented it to police.

Everything went downhill for “Lavish” from there. Police responded by arresting the pseudo-celeb at a restaurant on August 14 and placing him under $30,000 bail. He’s been in jail for 24 days, which explains why his normally prolific Instagram account had been dormant lately.

ABC News reports that Sharma was convicted on August 18 and he was sentenced to serve 90 days at Santa Rita Jail. In a strange turn of events, the teen was accidentally transferred to the jail’s psych ward and found himself trapped ...
