You Need This Brand New Shopping App In Your Life Right Now

by 28 mins ago

Spring AppSpring App

It’s sort of amazing—and by amazing, I mean amazingly depressing—that the year is 2014 and there are still no great shopping apps. Our phones are permanently attached to our palms, and we can order food, cabs, even dates (oh, hey Tinder!) at the swipe of a finger. But if you want to buy a great pair of black boots, you’re either going to have to go into a store or open up your laptop which is, OK, not that much work, but it’s still more work than it should be.

The good news? We have one now. Spring is a new e-commerce app that might ~actually~ change the way you shop on your phone. It launched today—literally hours ago!—so we caught up with Ara Katz, the insanely stylish CMO who cut her teeth at Beachmint (yup, the same Beachmint that just merged with Lucky Magazine) to find out what sets this one apart from all the others.

A word of warning, though, guys? It makes buying cool stuff almost TOO easy, so proceed with caution.

MTV STYLE: This is the coolest start-up office I’ve ever been in. How many people do you have working on this app?

ARA KATZ: Over 30! We’re half engineers, and half marketing and fashion. And half women! Make sure you include that.

Impressive! How did Spring come to be?

It was a number of things. We love the seamless life that phones give us, but when we really thought about ...

Justin Bieber Could Use A Few Boxing Tips

by 34 mins ago

Well, well, well… It looks like Justin Bieber is following in his friends’ footsteps. Typically a sideliner to Floyd Mayweather Jr‘s fight training, the Biebs has decided to glove up himself and jump in the ring.

There’s just one little problem: Unlike what he captioned in the post, boxing isn’t “just cardio.” Cardio is that run through Hollywood you took with your buddies last week. Here’s some tips for how the fitness buff can perfect his form:

Keep Your Gloves Up
This trainer is a really nice guy. Justin fails to protect his face after every hit, leaving himself wide open for a pop straight in the kisser. As a novice boxer, work on protecting that pretty face before perfecting your hook.

Extend Your Jab
I know you’ve got some power in that arm, JB. Use it! Don’t keep that jab all tucked up. It’s a powerful tool.

Power Through Your Cross And Hooks
A boxer’s best weapon is a strong right hook. It’s the knock-out punch. Try throwing your whole body into it and you’ll quickly realize that boxing isn’t just a cardio burn. And when you’re shoe-shining hooks, keep your elbows up to drive more power from the shoulder.

To Justin’s credit, he admits he’s “not a boxer,” but with so many friends in the game, he could have access to the best training partners out there. Call Floyd. The champ is bound to have a few tips.

Of Course Taylor Swift And Jeff Bridges Jammed On The Set Of ‘The Giver’

by 2 mins ago

Taylor Swift’s role in “The Giver” may have been a small one, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t leave her mark on the cast. In an interview with MTV News, Jeff Bridges, who produced and starred in the film, described Swift’s professionalism and willingness to bond with the cast.

“That first day, she was right on the money and ready to play,” he said. “She was wonderful to work with.”

Not to mention the time between takes.

“We got to pick a little bit between set-ups,” he said.

And, no, there isn’t video out there of Swift and Bridges duetting on “I Almost Do” (or is there? If there is, please let it show itself soon). The singer didn’t play her own songs.

Check out the interview above to find out what Bridges and Swift played on-set.

“The Giver” hits theaters tomorrow, August 15.

Look, Up In The Sky! It’s… Taylor Swift?

by 11 mins ago

Earlier today, some eagle-eyed Swifties noticed a peculiar message left in the skies above New York City: “TAYLOR SWIFT YAHOO 4 DAYS.”

Most likely, a professional skywriter was hired to leave the puffy, white missive in order to promote Taylor Swift’s upcoming Yahoo live stream on August 18, but I’m kinda open to the idea that the VMA performer hopped onto her trusty pegacorn steed and hand-wrote the message in the clouds herself.

Taylor’s skywriting stunt caught New Yorkers totally by surprise.

A pleasant surprise, but a surprise nonetheless.

Some even found the experience revelatory.

Others felt compelled to spread the gospel.

Seriously, Taylor, what have you got planned?

Ugh, guess we’ll have to wait until the livestream.

by 6 mins ago

Beanie Sigel has been released from prison.

MTV News spoke with Wayne “Wayno” Clark, a music industry veteran, with ties to Sigel and his family, who confirmed that Beans was released from federal lock-up on Thursday morning (August 14).

Sigel’s brother posted pictures of the Broad Street Bully on his @mr_himforreal Instagram account.

The Philly MC had been behind bars since 2012, following tax evasion charges. Then, last year, additional time was added to that sentence after an incident prior to his incarceration where police found prescription drugs on him during a traffic stop.

Check out Bean on an episode of “RapFix Live” from 2012.

Chris Pratt, The ‘Pretty Little Liars’ And More Explain The Dangers Of Binge-Watching

by 12 mins ago

What do the casts of “Lost,” “Pretty Little Liars,” “Orange Is the New Black,” “Veronica Mars,” “Parks and Recreation,” and “How I Met Your Mother” have in common? (Besides having a ton of money, that is.)

They’re all on shows that are frequently binge-watched, and the other other thing they have in common is that they filmed a really hilarious PSA for Entertainment Weekly about the dangers involved in this particularly enjoyable activity.

Watch to find out what all of your favorite stars — from Chris Pratt to Lucy Hale to half the cast of “Lost” — have to say about the do’s and don’ts of bingeing, and wait a second, did they really just say that “A” is James Franco?

Listen up Lil Wayne fans, Tunechi’s got a challenge for you! In this week’s installment of his vlog series “Weezy Wednesdays,” the Young Money leader has challenged his fans to the “Strike out ALS Ice Bucket Challenge” for Lou Gehrig’s disease.

After lifting a bucket filled with ice water (that is later dumped on his head), Weezy takes a serious moment to ask all of us at home to complete the challenge and dump ice water on themselves or donate to the cause!

However, we think his latest stunt takes the cake. After watching Wayne’s krazy hilarious celebration dance, I am ready to donate! Let’s see if any other Young Money members will step up to the plate and participate in Weezy’s challenge.

Meghan Trainor Is ‘All About That Bass’ — And These 8 Other Things

by 7 mins ago

Meghan Trainor is “All About That Bass,” and we are all about her.

The 20-year-old burst onto the scene this summer with her feel-good anthem about accepting who you are no matter what your size is. Fans are totally loving the song, in fact, they love it so much that it’s going to take the top spot on the Billboard Digital Songs chart this week.

MTV News caught up with Meghan, who signed to Epic Records back in February, and she told us this experience has been “all upside down.” But she’s thrilled that her fans, a.k.a., the Megatrons, are identifying with her song.

“They will send me a selfie with an essay of how they hated their lives and they hated themselves and they didn’t want to go to school, they were bullied forever, but now they heard the song and they just burst into tears,” Meghan revealed. “And they are happy and they dance around the house, and I read this and I’m like, ‘Whose this for?’ I’m effecting people; it’s insane.”

Since Meghan has only been in the public eye for a few months, we thought it would be fun to find out what else she’s all about — besides that bass. Check out the video and her list below.

Michael Fassbender Wants To Wear His ‘Frank’ Head For ‘X-Men’

by 13 mins ago

“Frank” is a difficult movie to describe. Even the best explanations get caught up on one detail: Michael Fassbender wears a papier-mâché head for most of the film.

Yes, the title character of the fantastic indie flick covers his face with a much larger paper one, but that’s not really the point of the movie. And the prop is only one aspect of Fassbender’s incredible performance. Frank is a complicated character, and making him relatable, human, and emotionally powerful is one of the great acting feats of 2014.

When I spoke with Fassbender and his co-star, Domhnall Gleeson, he described the physical issues that come with wearing the head.

“Definitely can’t see not that much at all, very peripheral vision. I can see nothing in front,” he said. “For me, the hardest part with the head is singing inside the head and working on an accent and putting the head on. It’s like speaking in a box because that’s essentially what it is. The reverb inside there took a bit of getting used to.”

But apart from the vision issues, Fassbender said that he enjoyed the experience and even expressed the wish to wear it more often. “I want to use the head in all my other performances,” he said.

So what would that look like in “X-Men”? Fassbender gave me a hint.

“Frank” opens in theaters on August 15.

President Obama Addresses First Amendment Rights After ‘Media Blackout’ In Ferguson Protests

by 29 mins ago

Wednesday marked the fifth night of protests in the Ferguson suburb of St. Louis, Missouri, where 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot, and there’s still no sign of a return to normalcy.

Over the course of the night, cops brandished automatic weapons and combated protesters’ use of Molotov Cocktails with tear gas. But it wasn’t just protesters that clashed with police: Journalists trying to report from the scene were also arrested, calling into question a violation of the First Amendment right to freedom of the press.

On Thursday (August 14), President Obama joined the conversation during a televised broadcast.

“There is never an excuse for violence against police, or for those who would use this tragedy as a cover for vandalism or looting. There is also no excuse for police to use excessive force against peaceful protestors, or to throw protestors in jail for lawfully exercising their First Amendment rights,” Obama said. “Here in the United States of America, police should not be bullying or arresting journalists who are just trying to do their jobs and report to the American people, what they see on the ground.”

In addition to the arrests of dozens of local protestors, Two Huffington Post reporters were arrested and temporarily detained while trying to use the WiFi at a local McDonald’s. They had apparently overstayed the time limits cops had given them.

Although the entire series of events beginning with Michael Brown’s shooting death on Saturday, August 9, have been alarming, this latest update ...
