13 Mesmerizing GIFs Of Ariana Grande’s ‘Break Free’ Outfits In Action

by 5 mins ago

Ariana Grande dropped a new music video today, and it’s out of this world, y’all. For real, though—terrible puns aside—her “Break Free” track featuring Zedd delivered some serious ’60s space age ensemble realness, and we’re so onboard.

SEE EVERY SCI-FI REFERENCE IN ARIANA’S “BREAK FREE” VIDEO

When we last caught up with Ariana, she told us that Barbarella was the main inspiration behind her new video. “She did, like, 100 costume changes but my favorite outfit she wore was this beige sort of spacesuit that was very short and had these built in, like, hip pads type thing, and I really wanted to do a take on that, so that’s where the inspiration for the outfit came from.”

GO BEHIND THE SCENES OF ARIANA’S “BREAK FREE” MUSIC VIDEO

Even though Ariana’s video didn’t have 100 outfits, three killer ensembles definitely made the cut. Check ’em out below, and start praying that those boob rockets make an appearance at the 2014 VMAs ASAP.

Here’s A Song About Tinder… Because It Was Really Only A Matter Of Time

by 10 mins ago

This is undoubtedly the summer of pop culture reference songs. Following in the footsteps of “#Selfie” and “Bo$$” comes “Swipe,” a song about Tinder that comes to us from the five-piece Brooklyn-based “eccentric chamber pop” band Miracles of Modern Science.

“Swipe,” which features vocals by Kristin Slipp, is quite catching with a nice video that plays well into what the band is doing; taking a somewhat ardent approach to the super popular dating app.

It may not be a classic, but it’s so 2014.

David Dean is the founder of Serial Optimist and writer of things that hopefully make you smile. Find him all over MTV, Thought Catalog, HelloGiggles and "Google."

How J. Dilla’s Legacy Ended Up In The Smithsonian

by 8 mins ago

Even with his tragic and untimely passing in 2006 from lupus, J Dilla has an influence that lives on. It’s evident in artists that he’s impacted, like Kanye West — who said, “I have to work on behalf of J Dilla” — as well as in song’s like Common’s recent “Rewind That,” which served as a tribute to his late friend.

And soon, his life and work will be cherished not just in fans’ hearts and ears, but in the Smithsonian, where his legacy will be included in the National Museum of African American History and Culture, set to open next year.

“I’ve been approached by a lot of institutions, but the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., is very accessible to all,” the Detroit native’s mother, Maureen Yancey (known lovingly among fans as Ma Dukes), told the Huffington Post.

“Timothy Burnside, a curator, contacted me about five years ago, and came to my house to visit,” she explained. “She saw some of the equipment, and I took her to the studio. She knew I wasn’t ready so soon after my son’s death, but we stayed in touch over the years. Finally, when I was ready, we started the process.”

Now, the museum will display his Akai MIDI Production Center 3000 Limited Edition (MPC) and a custom-made Minamoog Voyager synthesizer, according to the Huffington Post.

“I want young people to understand that no matter where you come from, you should ...

North West Finally Lands A Solo Magazine Spread

by 13 mins ago

If you can’t sleep at night because you can’t stop wondering when North West will land her first solo fashion spread, you’ll be sleeping like a log tonight. It finally happened—solo and clothed Nori in a magazine. Is she the cutest and best dressed baby on Earth? Survey says, “Yes.”

It looks like Nori’s first solo shoot comes courtesy of Carine Roitfeld and CR Fashion Book. Unlike her Vogue appearance, Nori is wearing clothes—and not just any clothes, I might add. She’s wearing Chanel!

She has on a cashmere sweater with an asymmetrical placket, diamond earrings, and—to keep her pacifier safe, probably—a tiny quilted Chanel bag. She’s grasping the chain like an old CC-certified pro—she’s lost in thought, and yet, keeping a hand on her possessions. No one gets near Nori’s Chanel, OK?

While this is only the first photo to emerge, we’re crossing our fingers for more photos and more baby Chanel—seriously, there’s nothing cuter, bye.

Kim Kardashian Really Hopes The Beyonce/Jay Z Divorce Rumors Aren’t True

by 28 mins ago

While Kim Kardashian’s “Watch What Happens Live” appearance was mostly centered around why her brother Rob skipped the wedding (Spoiler: He was “uncomfortable”), the selfie queen also took a moment to tell us her thoughts on the divorce rumors swirling around Beyonce and Jay Z.

When a caller asked her head-on her thoughts on the gossip, Kim handled it rather well by offering her hope and support for the couple.

“Oh, I don’t know,” she said. “You just always hope that nothing like that’s true, and you just wish them the best.”

Mrs. West also revealed that she and Kanye have never double-dated with Bey and Jay, except for some hangouts during the Watch the Throne Tour.

Wait… Michael Cera Released An Album Last Night?

by 17 mins ago

Mr. Manager is making the switch to Mr. Musician.

On Tuesday night, “Arrested Development” and “Juno” actor Michael Cera quietly released the 18-track true that. This isn’t his first venture into music — he played with indie group Mister Heavenly a few years back — but it marks his first solo effort.

And he released it on his bandcamp in an I’ll-just-leave-this-here kind of way, with no promotion of any kind. Very Cera-esque, as is the album itself.

Only two songs on the lo-fi project are longer than three minutes (by a few seconds) with a handful coming in under a minute. It’s experimental, playful, lax and fun — exactly what you would expect a Michael Cera album to sound like. A standout is a beautiful cover of Blaze Foley’s “Clay Pigeons.”

No matter what the critics have to say, Jonah Hill was quick to show his support for his pal on Twitter:

Lil Wayne And Drake’s ‘Grindin’ Vs. The Clipse’s: Who Wins?

by 11 mins ago

Two great songs can share one name.

The latest example came last week, when Lil Wayne and Drake dropped “Grindin,” which, of course, recalls the name of the breakout hit from the Clipse (though the Virginia duo’s had an apostrophe at the end, and Tune and Drizzy’s seems not to).

And, hey, there’s nothing wrong with this overlap. Pusha T and Malice’s opus is a certified classic, with a beat that was imitated on lunch tables and desks across the country. Meanwhile, the Young Money duo’s version seems well on its way to being a hit in its own right.

We decided to take a look at how the two bangers stack up, and you can also check out the audio for Wayne and Drake’s track and the video for the Clipse’s below.

Which “Grindin” is your favorite?

It’s Time To Get Worried About Deadly Selfies

by 13 mins ago

Sure, selfies can be glamorous when Kim Kardashian decides to plaster her mug across a coffee table book (and, yes, it’s kinda cute when you get animals involved), but now it’s time to have a conversation about the lethal side of these self portraits. In just over a week, there have been three selfie-related deaths — and we’re a bit alarmed.

On August 3, a 21-year-old man died in Mexico City while attempting to pose for a drunken selfie. Oscar Otero Aguilar was apparently out with his friends, and tried to pose with a .45-caliber pistol while he was under the influence. Aguilar accidentally pulled the trigger on the gun, sending a bullet into his forehead.

This was in an effort to post the photo on Facebook. One of Aguilar’s friends was arrested, while the other fled the scene.

If that wasn’t tragic enough, just a few days later, a Polish couple lost their lives while attempting to take a cliff-side selfie. The couple was snapping photos at the Cabo Da Roca cliffs in Portugal when they tumbled over and fell into the Atlantic Ocean. Now their two children are in the custody of Polish diplomats.

Another man was trampled by a bull while attempting to take a selfie in France:

A recent close call involved a young couple vacationing in Mexico, who posed for a selfie right as lightning struck a tree just a few feet away from them. Thankfully, that tale only ended with ...

Pour The White Russians, Jeff Bridges Is Open To A ‘Big Lebowski’ Sequel

by 23 mins ago

As The Dude says, never say never.

Or at least, we think that’s what Jeff Bridges was trying to say when asked by MTV News about the possibility of a sequel or television adaptation of the Coen brothers’ cult classic “The Big Lebowski.”

Noting that it was “a rare day when there’s not a ‘The Dude abides!’” from a fan spotting him, Bridges didn’t necessarily say that he’d return to the fan-favorite role… But he didn’t say no either.

“Whatever [the Coen brothers] are interested in, I’m interested in,” Bridges said in an interview promoting the upcoming “The Giver,” which he starred in and produced.

Let’s just hope that the TV adaptation of “Fargo” keeps doing really, really well, right?

Oh, and, duh: The Dude abides!

Watch The Genie From ‘Aladdin’ Honor Robin Williams With A Sing-A-Long

by 15 mins ago

Well, if this doesn’t tug at your heartstrings…

We’ve already made the argument why, for many of us, the Genie from “Aladdin” was Robin Williams’ most important role, and now the people who are currently charged with bringing Disney’s timeless tale about figuring out who you are to life have honored Williams’ work in the most joyous way possible: with a sing-a-long.

Broadway’s lights were already going to dim on August 13 in Williams’ honor, but on the 12th, the current cast of the Great White Way’s “Aladdin” surprised the audience by paying tribute 24 hours early.

Entertainment Weekly first ran the footage of James Monroe Iglehart — who won a Tony for his portrayal of the Genie — leading the audience and the company with a surprise rendition of “Friend Like Me,” and definitely check it out below if you’re one of the millions of us who are having a hard time processing this enormous loss. Sometimes it really is the little things.
