Miley Cyrus’ Crafting Craze Is Giving Us ’90s Bracelet Nostalgia

by 13 mins ago

The Miley Cyrus craft craze continues! We’ve seen her embrace face paint, art supplies on her feet, and DIY tees, so it the next logical extension of her creativity was obviously jewelry. The “Wrecking Ball” singer uploaded some photos yesterday crafting with captions like “I like to lume it lume it,” and “This is how we lume it.”

But Miley is actually referring to “looming” aka the Rainbow Loom products created by Cheong Choon Ng in 2011. Each Rainbow Loom kit comes outfitted with a pegboard, a hooked tool, clips and a million tiny rubber bands that look like the type you’d pick up at the orthodontist. Miley’s not the only one into the rainbow bracelet craze–Ellen DeGeneres made a custom pair of Rainbow Loom underwear for Jimmy Kimmel, who modeled a #SuitOfTheLoom on his own show later that night. There’s a girl in England who made an entire dress out of the little rubber bands, and a Wall Street Journal trend piece covered the power-suited dads who accessorized with their bright children’s bracelets. Sure, there are some haters, but the loom craze just made us feel really good, you know? So good, in fact, that it kind of made us miss our DIY childhood crafting days. So, we decided to revisit some of favorite bracelet trends from our youth. Here’s our unofficial list of the best bracelets from ...

Real-Life Horror Movie: Granny Leaves Creepy Dolls On Neighbors’ Porches

by 18 mins ago

The beginning of this story is straight out of a well-made horror movie. One day, eight families in the same neighborhood of San Clemente, CA found porcelain dolls on their doorsteps. No notes or explanation accompanied them. Right away, that’s f–king creepy. Imagine opening your door on an average day and seeing the cold stare of an antique doll. But it gets even odder than that. The 11 dolls were all left for families who have a daughter around 10 years old…AND each doll resembled the girls they were left for! What? I know. Wes Craven is stealing this for his next movie as I write.

The families called the cops. Orange County Sheriff Department tweeted the story asking for leads. Everyone’s skin began crawling. Was it a horrible (kinda genius) prank? They hoped so, because the alternative was…well, I won’t spoil the end of Wes Craven’s next film.

Within five hours, sheriffs tweeted that the mystery had been solved. A little old lady had done it as a gesture of goodwill. She thought the girls would like the dolls as gifts and saw nothing weird about leaving them on their porches in the middle of the night (actually, I don’t know if she did it in the middle of the night, but it makes the story better).

This story is a good reminder for young people to watch horror movies with your grandparents. That way they’ll know when they’re doing something that might terrify the entire community. ...

Life After G.O.O.D. Music: Common Explains His Relationship With Kanye West

by 19 mins ago

Common’s Nobody’s Smiling, his 10th solo album, which he dropped on Tuesday provides a deep look into Chicago’s streets. The album’s dark and penetrating beats do well to help Com paint a picture of his native city; and while the LP excels there is one ingredient that seems to be missing: Kanye West.

“Honestly Kanye, he didn’t produce on the album,” Common told MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway during a special “RapFix” interview that aired on MTV Jams on Thursday. “No I.D. is the center point, he’s the producer.”

Yeezy produced two of Common’s most-revered, LPs 2005′s Be and it’s 2007 follow-up Finding Forever. Both albums were released on ‘Ye’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint, as well as 2008′s Universal Mind Control. In 2011, Common dropped The Dreamer/The Believer without G.O.O.D. and with Nobody’s Smiling he’s reunited with No I.D., who he has known since the fourth grade.

“Artium is the label I’m on, that’s No I.D.’s label on Def Jam,” Common clarified, confirming that he was no longer a part of West’s label in an official capacity. “G.O.O.D. Music that’s still my family, ‘Ye is my brother, but point-blank business wise it wasn’t like ‘Ye was really like, ‘Let’s go do this album.’

“I think his focus was somewhere else; marriage, life, baby — in good places,” he continued.

The truth is, while a Yeezy beat or two would have been nice, No I.D. and Common’s chemistry is more than enough to create a compelling piece of work — after all, No ...

James Franco Punks Lil Bro Dave With This Fake Zac Efron ‘Dating’ Article

by 21 mins ago

Brothers are supposed to mess with each other. But while some wrestle, dump cold water on each other during showers or go for the sack attack, James Franco, a sophisticated man of letters, takes the high road when teasing lil’ bro Dave.

After Dave recently shared a laugh with “Neighbors” co-star Zac Efron at an NBA game, James was proud to announce that their Hollywood man-date had made it official. “Effron and My brother, dating!!!!!! Congrats, boys! I’m so happy for you!!!” James wrote in a post with his clearly doctored tabloid magazine headline.

Real mature, dude. Real mature.

Often guilty, never convicted. Serving 15 years to life at MTV News.

This Lovely Card Welcomed Lorde To Japan

by 21 mins ago

When I was a teenager, I had a penpal from Japan, and I would get so excited when her letters came in the mail. Well, as they say, the stars — they are just like us.

Related: Lorde Seems Shocked At Her VMA Nominations

Lorde apparently gets similarly stoked when receiving international correspondence. There is one difference, though: When I got a letter in the mail I could basically show it to, like, my mom. Lorde tweets her missive and scores 2,000+ “Likes.” [Insert joke about never being "royal" here.]

Before playing Japan this coming Tuesday, Lorde shared a lovely image on Twitter featuring a letter from a fan named Rio. You can read the note below. The collaging here is pretty next level:

Ella’s next stop on tour is Chicago for Lollapalooza in August. Let’s see if fans in the Second City can best Rio’s crafting skills.

Listen To M.I.A.’s Vigorous New Track, ‘Gold’

by 22 mins ago

M.I.A. linked up with Dutch duo The Partysquad for her latest track, “Gold.”

The song, which clocks in at a very succinct one minute and 47 seconds, features a beat that is a provocative clash of incongruous horns, whistles, bass and electronic blips with a brief reggaeton interlude.

The Matangi rapper’s lyrical pace is too quick to decipher, but she makes references to Kindle, Skype and GPS.

“Show me your gold, do what you’re told/ No time for games, put on your blindfold,” she raps on the chorus.

“Gold” appears on The Partysquad Summer Mixtape, which also features remixes to Wiz Khalifa’s “We Dem Boyz,” Lil Jon’s “Bend Ova” and Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy.”

Kristen Bell As Minimum-Wage Mary Poppins Is Super Cal-Amazing

by 34 mins ago

Mary Poppins can do near anything: pack an entire kitchen in her purse, fly around on an umbrella and, somehow, make this outfit look like a good idea. But there’s one thing she can’t do: Survive on the paltry $7.25 minimum wage in 2014.

That’s what the charmingly progressive Kristen Bell is here to remind us in her equally charming and progressive “Mary Poppin Quits” sketch on Funny or Die.

It’s been five long years since the federal minimum wage was last raised, so the “Veronica Mars” star joined lawmakers and citizens everywhere in a campaign to change that. Her method is, of course, a bit more engaging.

And can we take a moment to acknowledge that Kristen’s got a serious set of pipes?

Nicki Minaj’s ‘Anaconda’ Cover Is Perfect For Photoshop, And These 7 Images Prove It

by 16 mins ago

You probably remember where you were when you first saw the cover art for Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda.” It was that big of an event. (Plus, it happened earlier in the day on Thursday (July 24), so we really hope you remember that not-so-distant past).

The photo of Nicki was much-discussed and shared on its own, but it also lent itself lots of repackaging. And plenty of hilarious fans and general Internet dwellers did just that — creating new riffs on the cover for her single, which is set to drop on July 28 and will be “crazy,” according to producer Eric Bellinger.

Here are seven of our favorites.

1. Looks like Nicki was serious when she said “Google my ass” on Big Sean’s “Ass.”

2. There’s a reason this dude is known for his Photoshop skills.

3. The realest superhero out.

4. The text in the tweet about sums it up.

5. It’s like a mirror, kind of. (The image on the left is from a few years back)

6. The literal approach. Beware of snakes.

7. The results of digital pencil on digital paper.
