There’s a movie opening this weekend on a handful of screens in New York and Los Angeles. It’s a movie that you may not have heard of, but it’s one that everyone will be talking about for the rest of the year and a long time to come.

Richard Linklater, best known for his “Before” trilogy, has been working on the same movie for 12 years, three or four days at a time. That dedication resulted in something wholly unlike anything that’s ever hit the big screen before, and it’s the reason everyone will soon be talking about “Boyhood.”

If you haven’t heard, “Boyhood” is a fictional movie that feels real because we watch the characters age over the course of 12 years. It focuses primarily on Mason, played at the beginning of the movie by 7 year-old Ellar Coltrane, but we also peer in to the lives of his sister and divorced parents. Over the course of nearly three hours, we watch him age and simply live life.

Nothing that happens in Mason’s life is extraordinary, but watching him grow and go through familiar experiences is extraordinarily fascinating.

With 94 reviews tabulated, “Boyhood” is currently sitting at 100 percent fresh on RottenTomatoes. The universal critical acclaim, combined with its one-of-a-kind production will undoubtedly lead to serious Oscar buzz. If Linklater doesn’t get nominated for Best Director, some unfathomably good movie will have to have come out between now and the end of the year.

Fresh off of new details from writer/creator Nic Pizzolatto, Variety is reporting that the second season of HBO’s “True Detective” has found its first cast member.

According to the site, Colin Farrell is in talks to join “True Detective,” presumably as one of four leads for the brand new story Pizzolatto plans to tell next season.

The Wrap also reported that in addition to Farrell negotiating for a role, HBO is taking a serious look at “Friday Night Lights” alum Taylor Kitsch for another role. Kitsch had been previously mentioned in early casting reports, but it seems now that those talks have advanced.

There’s no word on when the next season of “True Detective” will air, but Pizzolatto indicated that he was about halfway done with the scripts.

You won’t get to see Grant Gustin as “The Flash” on The CW until this Fall, but before that, you can make him do whatever you want, as his take on DC Comics’ Scarlet Speedster finally has its own action figure. Not only that, but as just announced by DC Collectibles, “Arrow” is getting new action figures, as well.

The Flash is probably the most exciting, just because he hasn’t been featured as an collectible yet. You know, what with being brand new and all. But the figure shows off the deeper red of the new costume, as well as Gustin’s distinctive visage.

Today’s the release of “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” which is being hailed as one of the summer’s most awesome movies. After seeing it, you’ll naturally wonder how you’d fare in a simian apocalypse. Answer: Not well! Even a professional MMA fighter would stand very little chance against a fanged, vastly more powerful creature, let alone a whole village full of ‘em.

And yet, there’s a sad chapter in American history when average Joes attempted to duel Mighty Joe Youngs, boxing or wrestling our evolutionary relatives for cash — and to entertain other circus-goers. The animals didn’t have much say in the matter, and judging by these stories, it wasn’t a great experience for the human combatants either…

According to the Insane Clown Posse’s Juggalo lawyer, Farris F. Haddad, his love of the rap duo could lose him his law license, as fans of the band are classified as a gang by Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Gang Intelligence Center.

Haddad, this week, lost the battle with the FBI when ICP’s suit against the government agency was dismissed by a judge in Michigan. Still, he doesn’t plan to lose the war.

“I am an attorney. I have been a huge fan of ICP and have been a Juggalo since I was 12 years old,” Haddad told MTV News. “I could potentially lose my law license for going to a concert or listening to a band or wearing a T-shirt or something like that because, technically, I am committing a crime or associating with criminals.”

So how did Haddad and other Juggalos — whom the lawyer said have lost custody of their kids, their jobs and access to certain public places like malls and parks — end up in this precarious anti-Juggalo situation? Allow us to break it down.

The New York Times reports that in 2011, a report by the FBI classified Juggalos as “a loosely organized hybrid gang” that engages in all kinds of illegal activities — “felony assaults, thefts, robberies and drug sales.” A “small number” of them have, the report said, committed more serious crimes.

Perrie Edwards spent her birthday by having the “best day ever,” and a lot of that is thanks to her fiancé, Zayn Malik.

The Little Mix member, who was trending worldwide on her big day with Mixers sending her well-wishes, rang in her 21st birthday by having a funfair-themed birthday party in North London. The big b-day bash was reportedly planned by the One Direction member, who took some time off the group’s Where We Are tour, to be with his future Mrs.

Complete with Ferris wheel and a host of fair rides and games, Perrie, who was caught kissing her fiancé of nearly a year during the day, looked stunning in her hippie-chic attire as she soaked up the sun and hung out with friends.

Joining in on the festivities were the rest of Little Mix — Jesy, Leigh-Anne and Jade — who took pics playing carnival games and hopefully got their hands on some of Perrie’s three-tired birthday cake, which was topped with a carousel.

Perrie definitely enjoyed herself at her birthday bash, posting a morning-after picture, telling her fans that she’s “Massively tired with a massive birthday spot aha, I had the best day ever yesterday! Thank you everyone who came, I hope you all had a blast! I love you all!

When you’re as hot as Noted Sexy Person Channing Tatum, every little bit counts. This man is generating so much heat within his charming, handsome, visually pleasing body that the man had to shave his head for even the slightest bit of relief.

Yes, you read that right: Chan the Man is shorn. Dude shaved his head. A photographer caught Tatum out walking his dog (who is also handsome, but in a different way) and chatted him up, prompting him to whip off his hat and show off his freshly buzzed noggin. He explained that it’s more comfortable in the heat.

And apparently his wife approves of his new ‘do: “Jenna loves it!” he enthused to his new photographer pal.

And you know what? We love it too. It just looks really soft and fuzzy, you know?

The internet can be a silly place, especially when it comes to rumors about superhero movies. Offhand comments become concrete evidence in no time at all. That’s what happened last night, when the internet became convinced that Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast as Doctor Strange.

It all started with a single tweet.

That’s all it took to start off a firestorm of speculation and quickly drawn conclusions.

For those who aren’t familiar with the work of Latino Review, they’re the guys who pride themselves on releasing Marvel Studios casting and story details before anyone else, and this kind of purposely teasing tweet is a specialty of theirs. While Latino Review obviously has good sources when it comes to Marvel movies, the tweet essentially means nothing. Anyone can tweet something like that.

See? It might sounds like I have inside info, but I’m not really saying anything.

But that didn’t stop other Twitter users from completely losing their minds. Immediately people, assuming El Mayimbe’s tweet confirmed a definite casting choice, began connecting the dots and even making some dots up that weren’t even there.

The conclusion: Benedict Cumberbatch is definitely playing Doctor Strange.

How did people get from El Mayimbe’s vague hint that he knows who Marvel has picked as their Sorcerer Supreme to declaring Cumberbatch signed on? Let me demonstrate how internet fandom works.
