50 Cent Promises G-Unit Mixtape Before Reunion Album Arrives

by 23 mins ago

The G-Unit reunion is in full swing, with multiple releases over the past few weeks, and fans can expect all of those tracks to end up on a mixtape very soon. 50 Cent tells MTV News that the Unit definitely plans to drop a full tape.

“You’ll see a mixtape come out before [the album],” he explained. “The material that you see us putting out, it’s just getting back to the way we did it from the very beginning. We’re gonna start over and work like we need a record deal.”

“But while we’re putting out that music, we’re making the coolest original content and letting that be there for the actual album.”

Fif explained that he, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck and Tony Yayo are still trying to lock down the vibe of their upcoming reunion album.

“We’re still trying to find the song that defines the record and then we’ll be able to work off that record,” he said. “The formula we used to make albums in the past [is] I’d actually come up with one joint, one song that kinda felt like, ‘This is what the record should be like,’ and then sequence the rest of the record to follow that.”

“We’ve got some interesting stuff already, [and] it doesn’t take long because having that many moving parts, creatively everybody kinda keeps up with each other.”

Which ‘Orange Is The New Black’ Jailbird Would Kick The Most ‘Teen Wolf’ Demon Ass?

by 3 mins ago

If it’s true that there’s safety in numbers, Scott & Co. may be in trouble on “Teen Wolf.” Despite the addition of Kira and the newly turned (and potentially untrustworthy) Malia, the young lycanthrope’s pack has lost Allison (RIP), Isaac (who is grieving with Mr. Argent somewhere in France), the twins, and now Derek, who’s merely a Benjamin Button version of his former badass self.

Until the crew can find a way to reverse whatever it is Kate Argent did to our blue-eyed Alpha-turned-Beta-turned-child, they might benefit from a little help from some other people who know a thing or two about throwing down: the ferocious fighters of Litchfield State Prison. But which “Orange Is the New Black” character is most qualified to battle the villains of Beacon Hills? Read up on the ruthless lady prisoners, and take our poll!

Piper Chapman: She struck us as a too-smart-for-her-own-britches wuss early on in the series, but Piper gradually redeemed herself. First, she went head-to-head with Red; then she put the beatdown on Pennsatucky, punching that snaggle-tooth grin right off her face. Can’t you see Pipes winning a battle of wits against the evil Deucalion?

Galina “Red” Reznikov: The angry Russian (former) chef has an “in” with the mob and won’t hesitate to scheme her way out of a dangerous situation — or strangle you with plastic wrap in much the same way the Darach attempted to choke ...

G-Eazy Has A Modest Goal For Debut Album: ‘Ultimate World Domination’

by 23 mins ago

There’s nothing easy about G-Eazy.

Standing at 6’5″, with an all-black-everything wardrobe inspired by Johnny Cash, slicked-back hair and chiseled cheekbones, this self-proclaimed “Lady Killer” may not look he could spit out some pretty fierce lyrics. But after gaining some serious buzz over the years, The Berkeley-bred rapper — who cites Drake, Kanye and Lil Wayne as his influences — is “taking over” with his just-released debut, These Things Happen.

“It’s the story of me, every angle, every side I think that’s what a real debut album should tell is who is this artist and what do they have to say?” G-Eazy told MTV News at the Firefly Music Festival. “So it has the, ‘I’m drunk out of my mind celebrating this roller coaster I’m on right now,’ and then it’s got introspective, reflecting on all the crazy stuff that’s going down and everything in between. From the ordinary, relatable, vulnerable, to the invincible, cool guy, slicked-back hair in a leather jacket.”

Billboard is predicting that his album, which had him teaming up with A$AP Ferg and his hometown hero E-40, could sell 40,000 copies in its first week, which gives him a top 10 debut, and brings him one step closer to his goal: “ultimate world domination.”

“This is a culmination of years of paying dues and working hard and just building towards this,” he said. “Now we party and we rage and we turn up, you feel me? And enjoy the moment.”

‘The Leftovers’ Isn’t ‘Lost’: What You Need To Know About HBO’s New Series

by 1 hour ago

“The Leftovers” isn’t “Lost,” nor is it trying to be.

That’s probably the first thing you should know about the new HBO drama.

As “Prometheus” proved, the presence of man behind the numbers and the hatch, Damon Lindelof, who co-created “The Leftovers” with author Tom Perrotta, requires that clarification. Since the end of “Lost,” fans have hounded Lindelof — often unjustly, sometimes not — across film projects about what they perceive as a habit of not answering questions, and that reputation is on display in the first few hours of “The Leftovers,” just not in the way people are expecting.

On October 14, two percent of the world’s population — almost 150 million people — disappear without explanation, and that’s just the first scene of the series. The action immediately jumps forward three years to see how life on Earth has changed since the mass vanishing.

Going by the premise and the infamous reputation of its co-creator, it’s easy to imagine the show that “The Leftovers” isn’t.

The series isn’t about Justin Theroux’s Sheriff Garvey trying to get to the bottom of the mystery of the disappearance. He doesn’t even seem that interested in the G.R., the commune of mute smokers that haunted his New Jersey town, decked out entirely in white. The audience has no idea what the G.R. is up to, and they’re more a nuisance to Garvey than a puzzle worth solving.

That’s because while there’s mystery abound in the world of “The Leftovers,” what Lindelof and Perrotta are more ...

Hear ‘Go,’ The Grimes Song That Rihanna Rejected

by 1 hour ago

Grimes warned us that her next song — a song that she and 4AD labelmate Blood Diamonds wrote for Rihanna, but was rejected — is “kinda different” from what we’ve come to expect from the woman behind “Oblivion” and “Genesis.”

Now, upon listening to “Go,” we think that’s a bit of an understatement.

While the Vancouver-bred producer’s music has always strayed toward the ethereal side of things — music made for dancing in your pajamas, rather than heels — her first release in two years is decidedly more brazen affair. She throws in some dubstep and adds a bit of agitation to her voice, making for a track that sounds more like, well, a Rihanna song.

Grimes premiered the track at Governor’s Ball this year. This is the second collaboration for her and Blood Diamonds, as the two had previously linked up on 2012′s “Phone Sex.” Grimes is reportedly at work on her followup to 2012′s Visions.

Wombmates, Ep. 5: SNOOKBaby & JWOWWBaby Compare Astrological Signs

by 1 hour ago

While most pregnant women are over the moon to soon be welcoming a mini-me into the world, any one of them will tell you that constantly getting kicked in the ribs or peeing every time they sneeze is the pits. Jenni Farley has been pretty vocal about feeling crummy during her daughter-to-be’s incubation period, and her BFF, Nicole Polizzi, definitely didn’t enjoy waddling around Seaside Heights — in 90-degree weather, no less — during her third trimester with son Lorenzo. But both guidettes are incredibly excited to give birth (JWOWW’s due with her first in July, Snooki’s set to pop out her second — a girl — in the fall), and to celebrate, we created an animated web series of their baby bumps gossiping like old friends while waiting (impatiently) to be delivered. It was a labor of love (heh), we must say, and we hope you dig it as much as we do.

In our latest episode of “Wombmates,” SNOOKBaby and JWOWWBaby look to the stars to see if they’re compatible BFFs. Survey says: duh.

Relive Miley Cyrus And Britney Spears’ First Time… On ‘TRL’

by 8 mins ago

It took an artist as big (yet so tiny in stature!) as Ariana Grande to resurrect “TRL,” the beloved MTV variety show that started out in 1998, which was a time when you actually had to wait for Carson Daly to cue up a music video, as opposed to now when you can just lazily tell Siri to do it for you.

It’s been six years since “TRL” last aired, and while the show’s premise was video countdowns, it was so much more than just counting down and watching videos. Back before Instagram and Twitter and Snapchat, you didn’t know what your faves had for breakfast, and the word selfie was just the word self with an “ie” on it (and no one used it! Those were SUCH better days). If you wanted face time (which came before FaceTime) with your faves, you had to be home at 4pm ET so you could see them live and in person. Interviews with and appearances by celebrities were special events, not daily occurrences. We had to hope, wait, and watch.

Careers were launched on the iconic “TRL” stage, which was really a platform for Standom. So before Ariana takes the stage six years after the final show, let’s take a look back at “TRL” first of some of our favorite leading ladies of pop and “TRL” mainstays.

The teeny tiny BB Britney Spears made her TRL debut on December 12, 1998. She was just 17 and SUCH a wee thing! ...

Batfleck Selfie? It Exists, And It’s ‘Pretty Amazing’

by 11 mins ago

Somewhere out there, there’s a Batfleck selfie.

And that’s not all we found out when MTV News caught up with actress Carrie Coon on the red carpet for HBO’s “The Leftovers,” a new show which features Coon as one of the people remaining on Earth when a large chunk of the population just up and disappears.

Though Coon is only featured in one scene in the pilot, her role will greatly expand over the course of the series; and for the Broadway favorite actress, this is just the start of her media domination in 2014. Right after “The Leftovers” is done airing, she’ll be seen on screens this October in David Fincher’s adaptation of “Gone Girl,” in which she co-stars as Ben Affleck’s sister Margo.

“I am in the middle of a crazy year, yeah,” Coon said with an excited glint in her eyes. “It’s a crazy thing. It doesn’t always happen like this, so my husband and I are just trying to enjoy it and have a great time. It doesn’t come along all the time. It’s amazing.”

Though both “The Leftovers” and “Gone Girl” are based on books, the characters Coon plays couldn’t be farther away from each other. Where “Leftovers” character Nora Durst is emotionally destroyed when her entire family disappears, making her the biggest recipient of tragedy in her entire town, Margo (nicknamed Go) in “Gone Girl” is an acerbic indie chick with strong family ties to her bro, Nick.

“They’re very different people,” Coon said on ...

Cam’ron Gets His Tony Soprano On In ‘Funeral’

by 13 mins ago

Cam’ron proclaimed himself the Boss of all Bosses with the title of his 2009 mixtape, and five years later he’s flexing some mafia-esque power, with his new video, “Funeral.”

“I’m at my man funeral, lookin’ at his girl cry/ Preacher sayin’ he a good man, man that’s a f–kin’ lie,” Cam raps to open the song, released on Thursday (June 26). He then goes on to tell the story of the deceased, a former friend who flipped and cooperated with law enforcement.

“For two years he wore a wire, so we all here today,” Cam laments later in the video, directed by BLACKPRO, which uses primarily black-and-while to tell the track’s story.

Cam felt crossed, and he had to get his boss on: “We gon’ have to kill him, yo/ ‘Cause I’m more like the Sopranos/ I’m talkin’ Tony, Paulie, Silvio.”

This track will be included on Cam’s upcoming 1st of the Month, Volume 1, which will be the first installment of his scheduled monthly EPs.

Details about the releases are somewhat limited, but we do know that Cam has something in the can with Nicki Minaj, which he recently previewed on Instagram.

Plus, he’s got more special guests planned. “The people that’s gonna be on this project is Nicki Minaj, 2 Chainz, Wiz Khalifa, Estelle and Gunplay, so far,” he told MTV News last month.

1st of the Month, Volume 1 is set to drop July 1.

Get The Skinny On ‘Finding Carter’ Star (And Former ‘Skins’ Teen!) Kathryn Prescott

by 32 mins ago

When the new MTV series “Finding Carter” premieres on Tuesday, July 8, its title character will discover that the woman she believes is her mother actually abducted her many years earlier from her biological parents. Conveniently, Kathryn Prescott, who plays the teenage Carter, is no stranger to the world of drama.

After a single appearance on “Doctors” alongside her twin sister in 2008, London-born Kathryn landed a role on the hit UK series “Skins.” From 2009 to 2010, she played gay teenager Emily Fitch, who often felt overshadowed by her sister and struggled to find acceptance from her family. Emily’s relationship with her girlfriend Naomi was a hugely popular storyline, but in the show’s 2013 follow-up special, Emily returned home after an internship in New York and discovered Naomi was dying of cancer.

“There were a lot of dramatic storylines on ‘Skins,’” the 23-year-old recently told MTV News. But, she added, her most prominent memories involve a lighter tone. “We shot a party scene for ‘Finding Carter’ that really reminded me of the ‘Skins’ parties that they used to have.”

After subsequent roles on shows including “Bedlam” and “Being Human,” Kathryn landed a spot on her first prime-time US series, “Reign,” last fall. The show features a fictional account of the life of Mary, Queen of Scots; Kathryn’s recurring character is a kitchen servant who winds up royalty after winning a contest to become queen for a day. Fun fact: On the ...
