Now that we’ve had sufficient time to slow our heart rates in the aftermath of the season 2 finale of “The Mindy Project,” it’s time to tone down the squealing and take a closer look at the episode, “Danny and Mindy.”

Mindy Kaling, who is both the creator and star of the series, is a noted Nora Ephron fanatic. That should come as no surprise to anyone who watched last night’s episode, which may have been more accurately titled “When Harry Met You’ve Got Catfished In Seattle.” When she started out writing, Kaling even adopted the pen name Mindy Ephron as an homage to the writer, who was responsible not only for funny and fantastic essays, but also the endlessly quotable movies Kaling — and her on-screen alter ego — love so much, such as “Sleepless In Seattle,” “When Harry Met Sally” and “You’ve Got Mail.”

To woo Mindy and win her back on “The Mindy Project,” fellow doctor Danny (Chris Messina) takes Mindy to “any place that Meg Ryan had ever laugh-cried.” (“And, boy, was it white,” he adds in voice-over.) He also paraphrases the most famous line from “When Harry Met Sally,” meets Mindy at the top of the Empire State Building in a grand romantic gesture, visits Mindy when she’s sick in bed a la “You’ve Got Mail” and more little nods noticed elsewhere on the webosphere.

There’s one reference that seemed to escape everyone’s eye, however, to the point where Kaling herself had to point it out on Instagram: Instead ...

In case you didn’t notice, Zac Efron is shirtless a lot.

The “Neighbors” star doesn’t shy away from flaunting his body, and why should he? The dude’s been ripped from the time he was 17 to the time he was “17 Again.” Even his more dramatic roles make some time for the audience to appreciate Efron’s 0 % body fat.

With the release of the fifth issue today (May 6), we’ve got writer James Tynion IV on tap to talk about whether the growing nanotech infection in Gotham City ties in with fellow weekly series “Future’s End,” how Tim Drake can solve mysteries even Batman can’t, and just what’s going on with that monkey on the last page:

MTV News: Early in the issue there’s these nanotech circuits that show up in Harper’s brother’s eye, and clearly there’s some sort of viral infection afflicting the kids in the Narrows — leading to some crazy man versus machine battles by the end of the issue. What the heck is going on here?

James Tynion IV: These little issues right after the first three, which set up the scope of the entire series… Four, five and six set up the smaller threads that will then run through the core of the entire series.

With the introduction of the nanobots, we’re seeding in one of the other major threats that’s lurking beneath the surface of Gotham City. Something that might escape Batman’s eye while he’s focused on Carmine Falcone, and everything that’s very much on the surface.

It’s the perfect case for Tim Drake to come back into the fold in Gotham City, because this is a detective story, and it plays directly into his mastery of tech and his own ...

The secret behind the renewed interest in Star-Lord isn’t that complicated. After Marvel reintroduced the character in 2006, he got a sweet mask with glowing red-orange eyes, and BOOM — now he has his own movie.

Sci-fi masks are cool. (How else do you explain the popularity of Boba Fett?) And two new stills from “Guardians of the Galaxy” feature Chris Pratt in the movie version of the mask.

It’s nice to see Star-Lord actually wearing his headgear, since it wouldn’t be terribly surprising if Marvel came up with an excuse to keep him out of it and better display Pratt’s handsome face on-screen.

If I had to guess, I’d say these photos come after the big jail break that brings the members of the Guardians together. Peter Quill is out of his prison yellows and reclaiming his space outlaw gear.

Now that Star-Lord’s mask is finally getting some love, here’s to hoping we see a lot more of it when “Guardians of the Galaxy” opens in theaters on August 1.

Can this movie please just open already? I’m tired of being way too excited for it.

Lists are made to be debated, so naturally there was some outcry over the 2014 XXL Freshman class, but one of the loudest cries was about the exclusion of a female artist this year. Iggy Azalea was the first female MC to make the cut in 2012, Angel Haze followed in 2013, and this year there was a noticeable absence. There are a few artists, however, who were worthy of consideration.

Rapsody
The North Carolina rapper actually landed on XXL‘s list of the “20 Best Female Rappers of All Time,” but she didn’t make it onto the Freshman cover. She’s currently signed to 9th Wonder’s label Jamla Records, and her 2012 album The Idea of Beautiful, included notable collaborations with artists such as Mac Miller, Big Daddy Kane and Childish Gambino. She’s steadily continued to release music since then (she’s featured on the new compilation Jamla is the Squad) and we’ll likely be hearing a lot more from her in the future.

Nitty Scott MC
Brooklyn rapper, Nitty Scott, has been putting in work on the circuit for some time now but she was only eligible for being voted onto the list. In addition to dropping projects like The Boombox Diaries, Vol. 1, she was featured in the 2011 Bet Hip Hop Awards cypher, and recently she’s been rolling out weekly clips and teasing music with her “Chilluminati Tuesdays” series.
