Who Had Rachel McAdams Crying All Day?

"About Time" is the kind of movie you're supposed to bring tissues to. With time traveling, real human flaws, a wedding, a few births and an inevitable death, there's no holding back tears.

The film follows Tim (Domhnall Gleeson), a man who learns he can time-travel and uses it to find his soulmate Mary, played by Rachel McAdams. But he learns that his power can't be used to change everything, including what leads up to the movie's most emotional scene.

Spoilers Ahead

And as the gloomy cancer diagnosis of Tim's dad (Bill Nighy) leaves most in the theater with dripping mascara eyes, it wasn't too much different for McAdams, who had to give Nighy a figurative last goodbye on set.

"Bill Nighy, he just makes my heart swell," Rachel told MTV News for our Fall Movie Preview. "There's this scene where I had to, you know he's sick, and I had to give him a hug and it's kind of like maybe the last time we see him. I was crying that whole day. I could not stop every time I went to hug him.

"And then he'd have to remind me like 'I'm not actually dying,' " she continued. "I was like, 'I know, but it's just so sad.' "

That realness comes from director and writer Richard Curtis ("Love Actually"), who, according to McAdams, writes moments so relatable that it's life-changing.

"You come out of his movies and you want to call your mom and tell her you love her," she said. "I think he's a master at making people feel and making ...

A$AP Rocky Weighs In On Those Rihanna ‘Video’ Photos

BROOKLYN, New York — Remember that music video that A$AP Rocky and Rihanna were spotted filming in New York just a few weeks ago? Well, they weren't filming a video at all — if you're willing to take Rocky's word for it. "Nah, we weren't filming no video, we were just chillin,' " Lord Flacko told MTV News of the August 15 photos, despite the presence of cameras, lighting equipment and plenty of extras on what appears to be a video set.

In one pic, Rocky wears a backward snapback and a black varsity jacket, while Rihanna appears in two different outfits, one of which is a pretty fancy zebra-print gown. The pair look quite cozy on the streets of New York City. But if they weren't snapped together for professional reasons, could the paps have caught them getting close offscreen? Again, when we spoke to him on the Video Music Awards red carpet, Rocky denied rumors of any romance, saying, "People crazy. You know people say a lot." A$AP has been dating supermodel Chanel Iman — the couple even rode the subway home from Sunday's VMAs in Brooklyn — yet even that hasn't stopped the speculation. At last year's VMAs, Rocky joined Rihanna at last year's VMAs, where he made headlines for squeezing her rear at the end of the opening set. The Harlem rapper then joined Rih on her Diamonds Tour.

"She has a lot of style, and I think that's what she saw in me and what she liked, because she saw that I ...

TLC Rally Behind J. Cole: ‘He Deserves To Be #1’

As soon as TLC saw an early glimpse J.Cole's "Crooked Smile," they knew they wanted to work with the chart-topping MC.

The feel-good message of theBorn Sinner track fits right in line with the message the girl group has been spreading for two-plus decades.

"He called for us. It just made sense it has the kind of message that we stand for," Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins told MTV News at the VMAs Sunday night. "He's an amazing artist. I actually have a newfound respect for him. I didn't know he was so deep lyrically, [and as a] producer. So he's a really great artist and he deserves to be #1 like he is."

A video for "Crooked Smile" is being shot this Thursday, but the ladies remained tight-lipped about what fans are going to see in the visual. The J.Cole collaboration comes hot on the heels on TLC's resurgence— they've appeared at various music festivals and will be the subject of an upcoming VH1 biopic, But, T-Boz warns that this isn't a reunion.

"We never broke up, but we came back out 'cause we've always been together," she explained, noting that Lil Mama (who has performed with them and will be in the biopic) will be the first of many people to fill in for Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, who died in tragic accident in 2002. "We'll have different guest appearance paying homage to Lisa."

Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas added, "The reaction has been so amazing. It just makes us feel really good and happy about that too."

Katy Perry Used To Be Her ‘Biggest Bully’ Before ‘Roar’

Katy Perry was ready to rumble when she released her new single, "

"I started the record in November, but things were really flowing by the spring and it's a song about standing up for yourself," Perry told MTV News. "Who can be the biggest bully in the equation is yourself and can get in your way and it's a song about speaking up for yourself and having the strength."

Perry showed off that strength as she had the "last word," closing out the 2013 Video Music Awards with a knock-out performance of .

On Monday (August 26) Perry revealed a short teaser for the video, which is the lead single off her upcoming album Prism. The clip features the singer channeling Jane of the Jungle as she's seen swinging through trees and vines, while wearing a leopard bikini top and grass skirt.

Perry, who revealed she wrote the song back in March, is following up her hugely successful album, Teenage Dream, which gave Perry five number one singles. Yet, it seems as if Perry is picking up right where she left off with of her career.

"You can never be too sure because it doesn't always work out like that," Perry said when asked if she thought "Roar" would be just as successful as her previous efforts. "But for me I've always kind of gone with my intuitive feeling — if something really moves me, if I get those goosebumps or chicken pox, if I get those then I know it struck a chord in me."

Hailee Steinfeld: ‘Romeo And Juliet’ Is ‘So Relevant Today’

Ask actress Hailee Steinfeld what she's been reading lately, and she may struggle to name a novel that isn't becoming a big-screen adaptation in which she'll star. It seems the 16-year-old star of films like "True Grit" and "Ender's Game" is quickly becoming the go-to adaptation girl, and she's totally okay with that. To wit: next she'll star in the latest re-telling of Shakespeare's famous tale of star-crossed loves,

"I was reading the book in school at the time that I heard that they were remaking the film, and you know, I had watched the [director Franco] Zeffirelli version a few years ago ... The idea of knowing that it had been done before was present but just sort of walking into it with a different director who had a different take with all these incredible actors — everything about it was so different although we're retelling the same story," Steinfeld said of why she signed on to the project. "But I think what's so incredible about it, and what I love so much, is that so many themes in the movie are so relevant today, and no matter how it's told or who tells the story, it's still relevant. It's so relatable."

Though Steinfeld referenced the 1968 version during our Fall Movie Preview week interview, she's no stranger to the splashy Baz Luhrmann version from 1996, which it's worth noting, opened the same year she was born.

"I love that film. I love how different it is," Steinfeld said. "Again, it's the same story but told completely different. I ...

‘Same Love’ Sparked ‘Incredible Movement,’ Mary Lambert Gushes

BROOKLYN, New York — Watching Macklemore & Ryan Lewis perform at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards was moving, but for singer Mary Lambert, who was actually performing the track, it was a bundle of emotions.

"It was really exhilarating. It was like all of these rush of things, but then right before, I was super calm, like, 'We got this,' " she told MTV News not long after accepting the Best Video With a Social Message alongside her Seattle collaborators.

During the trio's VMA performance on Sunday night, Macklemore delivered the song's poignant rhymes with a heartfelt delivery, while Lambert sang the hook. Jennifer Hudson kicked the set up a notch with her surprise cameo toward the end of the song. To close, J-Hud and Lambert faced each other and had a good old-fashioned sing-off before sharing a hug. It was just one of many VMA moments for Lambert.

"That was so cool," the singer told us. "In rehearsals, I was like, 'How can I not talk about this [cameo]? I have to keep my mouth shut.' It was really hard," Lambert admitted. "[Hudson's] a phenomenal singer and a phenomenal person, performer — all of it."

Macklemore, Ryan and Mary shared in a few more special surprises backstage at the Barclays when they all bumped into Kanye West. Mack gave the G.O.O.D. Music MC a pound and a hug before showering him with praise. "Thank you for raising the bar as an artist for us. I appreciate it," the Seattle MC said, before also congratulating 'Ye on his ...

Justin Timberlake: ’20/20 Experience’ Was Almost A Four-Parter!

As it is, Justin Timberlake will give fans as much music this year as he's released in his entire solo career. He's dropped the year's best-selling album to date, The 20/20 Experience, and is prepping its sequel, The 20/20 Experience — 2 of 2
 for September 30.

But in an interview with MTV News' Sway Calloway at Sunday night's 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, just before he broke the Internet
 by reuniting
with 'NSYNC, Timberlake revealed that he originally planned to serve up four times that much product.

"Here's the thing that you have to understand about all of it, is it was all written at the same time," Timberlake said of the two albums he recorded last year. "How it's being released ... we kinda thought this was a cool way to do it. I went through a bunch of different ideas on how to release it. One being four EP's of five songs."

Plans obviously changed, but JT said the process of building enough songs for those releases came during one of the most fruitful creative periods of his career. "We sat down together, [Timbaland], myself, and crew ... a bunch of other producers," he said. "I just kind of assembled this great group of people and ... we put together more than 20 songs. We had 25 to 30 songs in 20 days. So we were just sprinting and sprinting and sprinting and then trying to figure out a way to put it out."

They finally agreed to do a double album, staggering the releases ...
