Jake Gyllenhaal Lays Down The Law In Exclusive ‘Prisoners’ Clip

Parents would do anything to get their kidnapped child back, and director Denis Villeneuve's "Prisoners" shows that "anything" could even encompass giving up one's soul. In the film, Jake Gyllenhaal plays a detective who finds himself at odds with Hugh Jackman, a father named Keller Dover whose daughter and her best friend were ripped out of their families' lives on Thanksgiving. But the horrific crime isn't without a suspect, a creepy looking mystery man played by "There Will Be Blood's" Paul Dano.

Dano and Gyllenhaal come face to face in this rain-soaked exclusive clip, as "Prisoners" takes part in MTV News' Fall Movie Preview. The film opens on September 20, but you can get your first piece of the drama right now.

Dano's no stranger to playing intense characters, and his startled Alex Jones makes an impression in this clip despite leaving all the talking to Gyllenhaal's determined Detective Loki. But there's more to Jones than meets the eye, and when the kidnapping charges don't stick, Keller Dover takes matters — and Jones' life — into his own hands.

Maria Bello co-stars as Jackman's wife, with Terence Howard and Viola Davis rounding out the cast as the parents of fellow kidnapping victim. The film comes from Canadian film director Denis Villeneuve, who will debut "Prisoners" at the 2013 Toronto Film Festival in early September prior to its wide release.

"Prisoners" opens in theaters everywhere later this year.

From "Romeo and Juliet" to "Ender's Game," "Riddick" to "Oldboy," the MTV Movies team is delving into the hottest upcoming flicks in our 2013 Fall Movie Preview. Check ...

Macklemore Adds To His Epic Selfie Collection At The VMAs

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis may have hit the big time — the hip-hop duo scored three Moonmen at Sunday's 2013 Video Music Awards — but when it comes to celebrity-featuring selfies, Mack is a regular Stalker Sarah. The latest additions to his collection? A cadre of snaps from this past weekend's VMAs.

Looking at Macklemore's Instagram feed is like gazing at a wall at your local pizzeria where the owner has pasted shots of him and local celebs — times about a million. Mack's most recent picture features him posing with Diddy at the VMAs, with a subsequent photo of him and Ryan Lewis holding their trophies aloft. Mack also has photos with the likes of Robin Thicke, Big Boi, Justin Timberlake, Jay Z, Erykah Badu, Tyler, The Creator, Wale, 2 Chainz, J. Cole and ?uestlove — and that's just to name a few.

For a man who went toe-to-toe with Timberlake at this year's VMAs — tying with JT for the most nominations — Macklemore seems mighty starstruck. Or he's just really into making memories.

Although Macklemore has been in the game for more than 13 years now, it was his independently released album The Heist — which he dropped last year with Ryan Lewis — that finally catapulted the musician into the public eye, his single "Thrift Shop" becoming permanently etched into the population's brainpan.

"We had no idea that it was gonna do this well, but I think the people are behind it, and it's an exciting thing for an independent artist to push this ...

Miley Cyrus Hits ’23’ Set, And Brings Her VMA Foam Finger With Her

Just 24 hours after taking the stage for what became the buzziest performance of the 2013 VMAs, a href="http://redirect.viglink.com?key=11fe087258b6fc0532a5ccfc924805c0&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mtv.com%2Fartists%2Fmiley-cyrus%2F">Miley Cyrus hit up the video set for Mike Will Made It's And it appears she brought along a prop from the shocking performance along to the video shoot: her foam finger.

The "We Can't Stop" singer was on set late into the night, sporting black, white and red alongside Mike Will, Juicy J and Wiz Khalifa. Miley was photographed in two outfits: white biker shorts under a black thong with a red sports bra, as well as Michael Jordan's famous Chicago Bulls jersey cut into a bikini-type outfit, putting his #23 on full display.

In addition to taking photos with Wiz, Mike and Juicy, Miley also shared a photo of herself wearing the now "infamous" foam hand she rocked on stage at the VMAs. No word on if it will make into the final cut of the video.

No release date has been set for the video, but earlier this summer, Mike Will, who also produced "We Can't Stop" opened up about making "23" with Cyrus. "I already had Juicy J and Wiz on there, and then we were working on 'We Can't Stop,' and I had a verse on there that was already laid down, but I wanted a girl to do it," he told MTV News.

"But I didn't know who I was going to do it with, and this was first day meeting Miley, and we had just knocked out 'We Can't Stop,' " he added. "And ...

Spike Lee’s ‘Oldboy’: Director Takes On Infamous Hammer Scene

Spike Lee — a director known for taking on difficult subject matter — has given himself yet another challenge: remake a cult classic beloved by film buffs for its disturbing imagery, uncompromising story and unsettling plot twists. But speaking with Lee, he sounded laid-back about tackling Park Chan-wook's "Oldboy," in spite of the original's legacy.

"I don't think it's pressure. That's not the way Josh Brolin and I approached it," Lee told us when we caught up with him for MTV News' Fall Movie Preview. "Josh went to Park and asked for his blessing. Park gave it, and the one thing he said to Josh — which Josh related to me — was 'make a different film; don't do the same thing I did.' [So] that's the way we did it."

Even with Lee and Brolin setting out to make a different film, there are certain indelible images from the 2003 version of the movie that will be hard to escape: The hero, Dae-su Oh, eating a live octopus or destroying a hallway full of henchmen with a hammer in one take, for example. It's a scene Lee reimagines, at least in some capacity, in his own "Oldboy."

We asked Lee, specifically, about the hammer fight and how he pulled it off. Finding the right collaborator was first on the checklist, and he found that in Brolin. "We were partners; Josh was amazing," Lee gushed.

"We'd talked about working together for many years, and it finally happened. He carried the film on his back— it's an amazing performance. He had to ...

Kanye, Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes Create A Hip-Hop ‘Alliance’ On ‘Thank You’

BROOKLYN, New York — The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards brought a ton of hip-hop talent from all over to Brooklyn, and Busta Rhymes made sure he rolled out the red carpet for his out-of-town friends Kanye West and Lil Wayne. He also seized the opportunity and shoot a music video on Saturday.

"I was just trying to capitalize on the moment of us all being in the same city, at the same time," Busta told MTV News when he walked the red carpet on Sunday night.

"Thank You" features Q-Tip, Kanye West and Lil Wayne, and while the all-star collaboration needs no reasoning, Busta had a very deliberate reason to bring the three MCs together. "We did everything in our power to show the camaraderie, because it's been a lot of talk that over the last year or two about conflict between G.O.O.D. Music and Young Money and Cash Money," the Dungeon Dragon told us.

There was a time when Drake and Kanye West weren't on speaking terms, and Lil Wayne's beef with Pusha T spilled over into records, but Bus says it was all overblown. "I just wanted to put it to bed and create an eventful moment where me and Wayne being Young Money/Cash Money on one team, Q-Tip and Kanye be on another movement on G.O.O.D. Music; just showing that camaraderie and that alliance and just making it official on a real hip-hop level," he explained.

The single will be featured on Busta's forthcoming Extinction Level Event 2, and though the song hasn't been released ...

Eminem Goes ‘Berzerk’ On New Single

If Eminem was looking to get his old stroke back on his upcoming eight solo album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2, he's right on target with the album's first single, "Berzerk."

Joining the likes of Jay Z and Kayne West in tapping old school hip-hop legend Rick Rubin to produce his music, Slim Shady employed the Buddha of Beats to give the song, which dropped Monday night, his signature mix of booming beats and classic rock samples.

"Now this s---'s about to kick off, this party looks wack/Let's take it back to straight hip-hop and start it from scratch/I'm 'bout to bloody this track up, everybody get back/
That's why my pen needs a pad cause my rhymes on the raaag/Just like I did with addiction I'm 'bout to kick it," rhymes Em over a spare, rock and roll beat enhanced by a sample of the "kick it" hook from the Beastie Boys' "Fight For Your Right (To Party)."

The song also samples Billy Squier's 1981 hit "The Stroke," which makes total sense given the Rubin connection. The former Def Jam co-founder helped Run-DMC and the Beasties blow their careers up with songs that melded rap and hard rock and "Bezerk" unquestionably has the feel of one of Rubin's 1980s classics. And, after a more somber mood on his post-rehab Relapse and Recovery albums, "Berzerk" brings Em right back to the fun-filled, loose and playful vibe of such early efforts as the original Marshall Mathers LP from 2000.

Even the placeholder video for it takes you back, as it features ...

Jennifer Lawrence ‘Brings It’ In ‘American Hustle,’ Says Director

The trailer for director David O. Russell's swinging '70s drama starring Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Amy Adams, made its debut less than a month ago, and it's already garnered the kind of Oscar buzz studio execs would sell their first, second and third born to curry. But, as Russell told MTV News as part of our Fall Movie Preview, it's something he tries to not think too much about.

"There's really nothing you can do about it," the auteur said of the early awards speculation surrounding his film, loosely based on the events of Abscam. "I think you just have to do your best to humbly make the best movie you can make, and let the movie speak for itself. I think you can't really get caught up in that."

You can hardly blame Academy Award watchers for being bullish about the film's prospects, though. After all, Russell films have a habit of earning their actors Oscar nods — and wins. Bale and Melissa Leo scored trophies for their performances in 2010's "The Fighter," with costar Adams also earning a nomination. And Russell's most recent film, "Silver Linings Playbook" helped Lawrence score her first win, with co-stars Cooper and Robert De Niro also getting nods.

But, as Russell was quick to point out, Oscar hasn't changed his 23-year-old star.

"I mean ... no, it didn't really change it because with the dynamic that was created — it's very dynamic and sweet and fun, and she had an enormous amount of fun playing this role and ...
