Miley Cyrus Promises ‘Crazier’ VMA Moment Than Britney-Madonna Kiss

Madonna and Britney Spears shared an infamous lip-lock during their unforgettable performance at the 2003 VMAs, and somehow Miley Cyrus plans to top that historic moment with her own set at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, airing live from Brooklyn's Barclays Center on Sunday night (August 25).

Miley strutted down the VMA red carpet with producer Mike Will Made It, whom she collaborated with on her upcoming album, Bangerz, and made a bold declaration when she stopped to chat with MTV News' pre-show host Sway Calloway. After quickly reminiscing about Madonna's famous exchange with Britney — "she passed the torch by passing the tongue" — the bleach-blonde star added that she planned to top that moment.

"We've got better in store for you guys, it's going be even crazier than the kiss," she declared, going on to note that her brand-new single, "Wrecking Ball," was already tearing up the charts. "This is just the beginning of my movement. Today the pre-order came out and I'm already #1 with my single that no one had heard until today. It's already #1, so I'm already so excited. It's a part of a movement that I'm about to create, and my fans have been really important in it."

If Miley plans to top that infamous kiss, we'd expect there to be at least a little bit of her twerking involved, right? "You'll see," she told Sway coyly, not wanting to give away any of the surprises.

In addition to her anticipated performance, the lead single from Miley's upcoming ...

VMA’s KAWS 60-Foot Moonman: How’d They Do That?

For the artists nominated for 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, the biggest thing on their minds is probably winning one of those special KAWS-designed Moonmen. Not coincidentally, the trophy will also be the biggest thing on the stage.

That's because this year's stage at the VMAs features a 60-foot tall inflatable version of the KAWS Moonman.

The enormous decoration is the latest work from Airworks Inflatables, a company based out of the Netherlands that specializes in creating very unorthodox balloons for events, concerts and music festivals.

MTV News spoke with Matt Whitehead, a co-founder and creative director of Airworks, about the work that went into creating the huge KAWS Moonman, a project he called "one of the best ones" the company has done in its 15-year history.

The inflatable began as a 3-D model, sent from KAWS' office in Brooklyn to Airworks in the Netherlands. From there, it was scaled to the enormous size, and the printing process could begin.

As surprising as it might sound, the biggest challenge of creating the inflatable Moonman wasn't the size of the project; it was the color. Moonmen — the KAWS edition being no exception — are plated in chrome, a look that is hard to fake with the fabric used on Airworks inflatables, but as their own technology improved, the illusion became more and more attainable.

"The fact that it's chrome really works well with the techniques that we have. I think it's probably the most realistic metal we've made," Whitehead said. "Every year our techniques get ...

‘Divergent’ Exclusive First Look: Watch Now!

"What makes you different, makes you dangerous," declares the official first look at 2014's

Stars Shailene Woodley and Theo James were on hand at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards Pre-Show to debut exclusive footage from the action thriller.

Based on the best-selling novel by Veronica Roth, the story takes place in a near-future Chicago in which society has been divided into five factions, each guided by a different virtue. There's Abnegation (selflessness), Erudite (intelligence), Dauntless (bravery), Amity (peacefulness) and Candor (honesty). Each citizen is tested in their teens to determine which faction they fit in. When Abnegation-born Beatrice Prior (Woodley) receives a Divergent result (meaning she doesn't fit into any faction), she's warned of the danger her "kind" pose. She decides to leave her friends and family and take up with the daring Dauntless, renaming herself Tris and gaining a mentor in trainer Four (James).

Academy Award-winner Kate Winslet takes center stage in the sneak peek's opening scene, as her Erudite leader character Jeanine Matthews explains to a room full of teens: "The future belongs to those who know where they belong." From there, we meet Beatrice, who's told during her testing that she doesn't fit in, can't be controlled and needs to keep it a secret. "And what if they already know?" she asks. "Then you're already dead," test administrator Tori (Maggie Q) warns.

Next we meet initiate Tris, who's learning the ropes of her would-be faction — jumping from tall buildings, battling rival Peter (Miles Teller) and facing down hurtling knives. Only one man — mentor ...

Drake Relives Lil Wayne’s ‘Surreal’ 2008 VMA Shout-Out

BROOKLYN, New YorkDrake first appeared on the MTV Video Music Awards in 2010, but before he made his debut alongside Mary J. Blige and Swizz Beatz, the Toronto spitter made his presence felt a few years earlier thanks to his mentor Lil Wayne.

When Weezy took the stage at the 2008 VMAs to perform Tha Carter III's "Misunderstood," the Young Money boss left his own lyrics at home, opting to spit bars written and recorded by Drake, who was largely unknown as a rapper at the time. At the end of the performance, he yelled out "Drizzy Drake, I love you, boy!" It was the ultimate co-sign.

"It was like surreal; I think I was locked outside. I couldn't even get inside, I was at a side door and I heard it," Drake recalled. "The door kept opening and closing and I kinda heard lyrics from my song and I thought like is he rehearsing and then people kept hitting my phone like Wayne is performing. That was crazy."

The verse that Wayne performed would eventually end up on Birdman's 2009 platinum single "Money to Blow." That 2008 night helped to set up Drizzy as an artist to watch for.

Drake would make his physical VMA debut in 2010 to put on a Rat Pack-inspired performance of "Fancy" with MJB and Swizz. "I just really remember like how nervous I was at my first VMAs," he said. "It's one thing to be comfortable with yourself, be yourself in everyday life, but it's hard to walk into this building ...

VMA Nominee ‘Blurred Lines’: The Best Video Parodies

What was your first reaction when you saw the uncensored version of Robin Thicke's triple-VMA nominated video?

"I was immediately struck by the combination of naked women and farm animals," said Sara Schaefer, one half of MTV's "Nikki & Sara Live" team of the song that turned the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards performer into a superstar. "I thought it was a little ... weird."

Her partner, Nikki Glaser, felt the exact opposite. "I thought it was hot. I'm not gay, but I was really turned on by it," she said, unintentionally punning it up by calling the clip for the song of the summer "titillating."The buzzed-about tops optional video has inspired tons of parodies, some great, some predictably awful and a lot that were weirder than Pharrell's old man dancing in the original.

There was the inevitable "Star Wars" and Muppet versions and a male burlesque take from Mod Carousel, among dozens of others.

We asked Glaser and Schaefer to break down the best ones, including their own hilarious script-flipping take featuring men dancing around wearing not nearly enough. And they're not gonna lie, it seemed like a good idea at the time, but they were mostly just freaked out.

Nikki and Sara turn tables, sort of
"The way a man reacts to a naked woman is so different from the way a woman does," explained Schaefer about why she and Glaser were not looking forward to sharing the stage with shockingly near-nude dudes. "We're like, 'uggh, that's too much, just cover up' ...

Could Niall Horan And Zayn Malik Pull A ‘Freaky Friday’? 1D Spills All!

Later this week, Directioners will get the chance to flock to theaters to check out One Direction in 3-D when their Morgan Spurlock-directed flick, hits theaters Friday.

In the film, fans get to go behind the scenes with the beloved boy band as they travel across the world on their Take Me Home Tour, as well as head home to see their families in between gigs and engagements. The documentary focuses a lot on their rise to fame, from their early beginnings on the "X Factor" in the U.K. to their current status as pop superstars. At one point, the guys even wonder what would have happened to the group if one of them hadn't auditioned for "X Factor."

So, if Zayn Malik hadn't shown up to his audition back in 2010, could the more outgoing Niall Horan step in as 1D's go-to mystery guy? That question is pondered in the flick, and the fellas opened up about that possibility to MTV News, just ahead of 1D's appearance at tonight's 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. "I think Niall could pull it off," Liam Payne told us Saturday. "Actually, I think he's got that air about him. He could switch it on when he wants to."

With Liam giving Niall his two thumbs up, does Zayn think they could ever pull a switcheroo? "Definitely," he said. "He's got my approval."

Before the movie hits theaters Friday, One Direction will appear at the VMAs, where they're up for Best Song of the Summer for their single "Best Song Ever." They are ...
