‘Man Of Steel’ Makes Superman Relatable, Zack Snyder Says

Superman isn't just a superhero, he's the superhero — one gifted with more abilities and powers than the next five combined. In however, Zack Snyder wanted the great-granddaddy of all costumed comic book characters to be relatable to normal old humans, even if he still possessed all of the abilities that make him, well, super.

"I went into the movie trying to say, if we were Superman, how would we react in these situations?" Snyder told MTV News at the film's recent Los Angeles press day. "Because I always felt in the past Superman has kind of been this unrelatable character — we look at him like a god. And I felt like I understood the 'why' of Superman ... we understood his love of humanity and his morality and then we would 'get' the grown-up Superman."

Snyder has spent much of his career thus far deconstructing superhero mythology, creating metatextual portraits of superhuman characters in "300," "Watchmen" and "Sucker Punch," where audiences come for the spandex and stay for the subtext. But even after the mixed reception he received for "Sucker Punch," Snyder insisted that he considers as personal as any of his other films, even if it's maybe a little more straightforward than its predecessors.

"I was approached for the very first time after '300' and asked if I wanted to do Superman," he revealed. "I was doing 'Watchmen' and I thought it was difficult to take a sidestep there — it's like the opposite in a weird way. But I am a fan of the ...

Papoose Crashes ‘RapFix Live’ Set To Freestyle

Papoose is a man who knows what he wants. The self-proclaimed King of New York surprised hip-hop fans when he stormed the stage unannounced at Hot 97's Summer Jam concert on Sunday night in New Jersey. Then, on Wednesday (June 5), Pap did it again when he crashed the "RapFix Live" set with a special freestyle.

"I thugged my way up on the Summer Jam stage/ Me and Kendrick Lamar, we on the same page/ Rick Ross and Wayne was on the stage too/ Only person everybody talkin' 'bout is Papoose," the Brooklyn MC barked right after he shoved "RFL" host Sway Calloway off-camera.

Since he went through all the trouble, after performing the tailor-made rhyme, Sway invited Pap on the couch for a quick interview. "I just feel like New York artist is not getting their just due," he began, explaining why he overtook the Summer Jam stage the way he did. "I just woke up with a certain determination in my mind. I looked at the bill for Summer Jam and I said, 'You know what? I'm gonna place myself right there.' "

On Sunday, after Kendrick Lamar ended his set a few minutes early, Pap and producer Ron Browz marched out to the tune of their new single from Papoose's The Nacirema Dream LP, "Get At Me." Hot 97 program director Ebro Darden, and the entire MetLife stadium was shocked at the surprise performance and Pap quickly saw his name trending on Twitter after the bold stunt.

The next day, the BK lyricist explained that it was his buddy ...

Mariah Carey’s ‘New Era Begins’ With Album Out July 23

It's been four years since Mariah Carey has released a studio album, but on Wednesday (June 5) the pop diva tweeted that on July 23, "the new era begins."

Carey did not reveal the album title in her tweet, but MTV News has confirmed that July 23 will be the release date for the singer's much anticipated 11th studio album, the first since 2009's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, which peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Teaming up with longtime producers Jermaine Dupri, who created hits "Always Be My Baby" and "We Belong Together," and Bryan-Michael Cox, Carey also brought on-board Hit-Boy and The-Dream to lend their expertise to the tracks.

Carey hasn't seemed to miss a step since taking a break from music after having her twins (a.k.a. Dem Babies) back in 2011. The lead single off her upcoming album, , has hit #1 in 30 countries and is currently holding the #20 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Most recently, Carey, who will be heading out on a world tour in support of the album, surprised thousands by appearing alongside Miguel at Hot 97's annual Summer Jam concert, to perform their single.

"Mariah Carey for Summer Jam joining me to do '#Beautiful' was just definitely a huge moment — you could tell by the reaction from the crowd," Miguel told MTV News earlier this week in New York. "It's obviously, like, a hip-hop staple annual show — especially here in the States it's historic — so the fact that they even invited me, an R&B ...

Miley Cyrus’s Album Won’t Be ‘That Hip-Hop,’ Pharrell Says

With every new single, collaboration and twerkin' video that she drops, Miley Cyrus continues to tickle fans with her spontaneity, but Pharrell, who is producing her upcoming album, is also a big fan of Miley's Southern charm.

"I love Miley — she's really honestly at the core a good person and it's always cool to work with Southern people," Pharrell tells MTV News of immediately hitting it off with the 20-year-old. "Not that I don't love working with West Coast, Midwest and East Coast people, but Southern people just have this thing where...sort of a Southern value kicks in and along with that value is also that Southern appreciation."

Miley and Skateboard P have been working together for over a year now, and their friendship has grown over those months spent in the studio. "Coming from Nashville, she just sort of appreciates things in a different way and it comes through in her performance and her aspiration," he continued. "That's my lil sis. She knows what she wants to do and at the tender age that she is now, she's just getting started."

In addition to Pharrell's contributions, Miley collaborated with ATL producer Mike Will Made It on her new 'turn up' anthem "We Can't Stop," which includes some chopped-and-screwed elements and leans away from the electro influence of her Disney days. The LP will also include a feature from Wiz Khalifa and possibly even French Montana, but don't expect the hip-hop lean on the LP to be too heavy.

"It's just gonna sound like her and her influences, but ...

Daft Punk ‘Super Thankful’ For ‘Get Lucky’ Success, Pharrell Williams Says

You can call Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" many things — an unlikely Song of the Summer frontrunner, a record-setting smash, the most unlikely success of the duo's career, etc. — but whatever you do, don't call it disco ... at least not around Pharrell Williams.

"I don't know if it's a disco track; like, if you really think about it, it feels a little bit more, like, 'post,'" Williams told MTV News. "But if you consider all of the elements, and where it comes from, the feeling, it kind of feels like out of time, like it's not necessarily in a specific time. At least when I hear it."

And while Williams might not agree with most folks' assessment of the track, he's got no problem with the way "Get Lucky" has been received by fans around the world. It's reached the Top 10 in more than 28 countries (it's #4 and rising on the Billboard Hot 100), been certified gold or platinum in five nations, and broken streaming records on sites like Spotify. In short, it's a sensation ... and neither Williams or Daft Punk can believe it.

"I mean, I thought it would do good, I didn't know it would be this; I didn't know it would be breaking records across the board, I had no idea," Williams said. "I just thought it would do well, because it felt great and it felt different, and you guys know I live for those types of things, to do things that are different. So the fact that it's been so ...
