Doors Co-Founder Ray Manzarek Dead At 74

Keyboardist Ray Manzarek, who co-founded the Doors in 1965, died Monday (May 20) at age 74.

According to the band's Facebook page, the keyboardist succumbed to bile duct cancer after a lengthy fight against the disease.

Manzarek, who was portrayed in Oliver Stone's 1991 movie by Kyle MacLachlan, was instrumental in forming the iconic group, collaborating with frontman Jim Morrison to transform the landscape of rock and roll at a time of enormous social and cultural upheaval. The surviving members of the band reacted with mixed feelings about Stone's film, but Manzarek asserted that the 2010 documentary "When You're Strange" offered a more accurate and balanced portrait of the Doors and was reflective of the group's contributions, not just those of Morrison.

Manzarek was instrumental in helping bring to life many of the band's signature songs, including "Light My Fire," "Break on Through," "The End," "L.A. Woman," and "Hello, I Love You." At the time of his death, Manzarek was with his brothers Rick and James and his wife, Dorothy.

Manzarek released several solo albums after Morrison's death in 1971, and he started a group with fellow bandmate Robby Krieger in 2002 that was committed to playing the music of the Doors.

Krieger, with whom he maintained a close collaboration, released a statement Monday, saying, "I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate Ray Manzarek. I'm just glad to have been able to have played Doors songs with him for the last decade. Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss ...

‘American Idol’ Runner-Up Kree Harrison: ‘It Doesn’t Matter Where You Place’

It's been five days since Kree Harrison wrapped up her time on "American Idol." Last Thursday, the 22-year-old Texan lost to Candice Glover, but she knows that it doesn't take a victory to have success.

"There's so many 'Idols' that I look up to: Carrie [Underwood], Kelly [Clarkson], Kellie Pickler's one of my best friends," the runner-up told MTV News on Monday (May 20). "[Pickler] is such a strong woman and her work ethic is incredible. So for me, there's so many. It doesn't matter where you place. Jennifer Hudson! I mean, come on!" she added about the Oscar and Grammy winner who placed seventh on the show in 2004.

Pickler, who finished sixth on season five of "Idol," was giving Harrison sound advice all season. "She always told me, 'Just stay Kree and never Google yourself.' Her grandpa actually came to one of the tapings of the show. I was so happy he was in the audience rooting for me."

Pickler and Harrison will share the stage at the famed Grand Ole Opry on June 4, where they will be joined by "Idol" judge and country music superstar Keith Urban. And Harrison is taking Urban's words of wisdom with her as she plots out her post-"Idol" career.

"All four judges always gave me great advice, and Keith more than anything," she said, saying the country star helped teach her to wear her "heart on her sleeve," even opening up about her emotional childhood, during which she lost both of her parents. "But I feel like I found a happy medium ...

Jay-Z Clarifies Beyonce Pregnancy Rumors?

Despite several reports that Beyoncé is expecting her second baby, her hubby Jay-Z is opening up to say the rumors are not true. \ This weekend, Jay emailed Ebro Darden, the program director for New York radio station Hot 97, to say that Blue Ivy won't be a big sister just yet. Darden explained on Monday morning (May 20) that "it's not true."

The news comes just as rumors about the pregnancy have reached fevered pitch. Only weeks ago, Beyoncé first opened up to "Good Morning America" about her desire to have more children.

"I would like more children. I think my daughter needs company. I definitely love being a big sister and at some point when it's supposed to happen. My biggest job in the world is to protect my daughter and I am very protective," she said. "I just want to make sure that she can have a healthy, safe, normal life. I feel really, really just lucky that I can still do what I love and now have a way bigger meaning, and that's to be her mother."

One week after the interview aired, Beyoncé canceled a May 14 stop on her Mrs. Carter World Tour in Antwerp, Belgium, citing dehydration and exhaustion. Quickly, a rumor began to spread that Bey was expecting and the cancelation was tied to her second pregnancy.

After writing a handwritten apology for her first postponement "in my life," she defied doctor's orders was back onstage the following night.

Two days later, on Friday, a ...

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Takes Box-Office Crown With $84 Million

scored an 87 percent positive critical average on Rotten Tomatoes, an audience CinemaScore of "A" and managed to beat every other film at the multiplex over the weekend.

The only thing the sequel to the 2009 franchise reboot didn't beat? Expectations.

Director J.J. Abrams' sci-fi blockbuster carried a reported $190 million budget. Paramount, who co-financed the movie with Skydance Productions, had projected a $100 million four-day domestic total, a figure that most industry analysts supported last week. The latest adventure for the Starship Enterprise had no problem opening in the #1 spot, but generated just $84.1 million in its first four and a half days (showings began Wednesday evening).

Even with ticket price inflation, a massive marketing campaign, positive reviews and pricier 3-D and IMAX screenings, "Into Darkness" fell short of the $84.1 million four-and-a-half day total for 2009's "Star Trek."BadAssDigest.com's Devin Faraci warned that the cat-and-mouse publicity game surrounding the "Star Trek" villain could hurt its grosses . BoxOfficeMojo.com theorized, after the weekend, that many had already spent their movie money on "Iron Man 3" and "The Great Gatsby" or are simply saving up for this weekend's "Fast & Furious 6" and "The Hangover Part III."

"Star Trek Into Darkness" has proven much stronger than its predecessor in international markets, where "Star Trek" did somewhat poorly. The sequel has generated $80.5 million in 34 foreign markets (including an $8 million debut in Russia over the weekend) with a $165.4 million worldwide total for Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and crew.

Speaking of worldwide grosses, "Iron Man 3" made it to #9 ...

Chris Brown, Aaliyah Serenade School Kids In Video-Shoot Snippet

Chris Brown wanted to share a special moment with his fans when he shot the video for his upcoming track which will also feature Aaliyah, so he decided to go to South Los Angeles to spread the love.

Over the weekend, local Cali rapper Uiie Popcorn posted a behind-the-scenes clip to YouTube that caught Chris Brown filming scenes from "They Don't Know" sitting in front of a school surrounded by a crowd of children. "And for those of y'all who don't know this is a song with me and Aaliyah, that nobody ever heard before," Brown tells the children.

The majority of the eight-minute clip is backed with Uiie's own music, but there are scenes where fans get a sonic snapshot of Brown's new track. The song, which features previously unheard Aaliyah vocals, has a distinct old-school feel to it. "Don't listen to what people say," Breezy sings, drawing inspiration from Jon B's 1997 single "They Don't Know."

In between every line that Chris delivers Aaliyah sings "how could they know," accentuating his vocals.

The track is slated to appear on Brown's upcoming album X. "I shot it in the hood, I went to the 60s. I went to Cedar block," Brown said on Tuesday at a L.A. press conference for the 2013 BET Awards. "It's both worlds, it's bringing both words together in the video trying to uplift the poverty side of the community and just showing them where I'm from."

‘Arrested Development’ Gang: Where Are They Now?

Everyone's favorite dysfunctional family is back! After seven long years and countless will-they-or-won't they return rumors, "Arrested Development" finally offers up 15 brand-new episodes Sunday on Netflix.

And with the release date fast approaching, a hilarious trailer arrived last week to tease what's in store — including the stair car, magic tricks, hook hands and copious juice guzzling. Although the teaser showcased moments familiar to longtime fans of the show, it also proved to be frustratingly brief and spoiler-free, leaving just as many unanswered questions.

When we caught up with the cast, they left a lot to our imagination, but we still managed to glean a few clues about the whereabouts of the Bluth family now versus when the show went off the air in 2006:

Lucille Bluth
Then: It was Lucille (Jessica Walter) all along! It turns out everyone's favorite drunk mother was behind the family's embezzlement scandal, a fact only revealed when adopted son Annyong returns seeking revenge on Lucille for stealing his real father's banana-stand idea.

Now: After season three's revealing ending, what can we expect from the clan's un-motherly matriarch? "The Bluths are as desperate as ever, and if you've seen the posters that they are using for the ads, Lucille has an ankle bracelet on," Walter said, referring to Netflix's ad campaign. And while she maybe under house arrest, there is one thing we can count on: "She's still holding a martini, so she's still drinking." Good thing it's not an alcohol-monitoring bracelet.

Michael Bluth
Then: When we last saw Michael (Jason Bateman), he once again set off into the sunset, ...

Avril Lavigne Says Wedding Planning Is ‘Full-Time Job’

She may not want to act like a grown-up in her music, but in her personal life, Avril Lavigne is about to take on the adult role of wife.

The rock-pop singer has been hard at work planning her wedding to Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger, and according to Lavigne, so far, everything has been running smoothly.

"I'm planning, making plans," Lavigne recently told MTV News of her upcoming nuptials. "It's going pretty smooth. My wedding planner, she knows what she is doing, but there's a lot that goes into it. Planning a wedding is almost like a full-time job. There's a lot of details."

Even though her secret-themed wedding may be taking up much of her time, she is still managing to find some moments to put the finishing touches on her upcoming fifth studio album, due out in September.

Now, it's safe to assume this album takes on a very special meaning to the singer, since it was during the recording process where her relationship with Kroeger began.

"He came down to write a song with me for the record and then de didn't leave," Lavigne said jokingly. "Then we just ended up becoming really good friends, and setting up more writing sessions and now we're engaged."

Kroeger, who proposed to Lavigne in the studio, not only co-wrote several songs on the album, including the lead single, "Here's to Never Growing Up," but the two also share a duet. So, does that mean Kroeger will be joining his fiancé on tour?

"Well, we have a song together, so we will start there," ...
