Childish Gambino Lashes Out At Label: ‘Someone Buy Me Out Of This Contract’

Childish Gambino‘s Because the Internet topped the Billboard Rap Albums chart when it dropped in November, and his “3005” cracked the Hot 100, but the rapper is none too pleased with his label, Glassnote Records.

“so this sweatpants video and blog was important to us,” he wrote on Twitter on Monday (April 14), in reference to his new music video, which dropped this morning, as well as his Deep Web Tour blog. “and it wasnt handled correctly.”

The rapper didn’t specify what it was about the label’s handling of the video that was mismanaged, but the transgression merely seemed to be the latest in an ongoing issue. “we were told a lot of things were gonna happen and they were all lies. so im done. someone buy me out of this contract,” he added. continuing what would be a string of nine posts on the subject. “a lot of people came around after our first week sales. all those people are welcome now. def jam, atlantic, whatever.”

The album, which was released in December, was his second on the label. Between Because the Internet and his 2011 commercial debut, Camp, Gambino has sold nearly 500,000 albums with Glassnote. But the issues appear deeper than sales.

“i dont like record companies. but im not having another project go through this,” he posted. “i said ‘i know how the internet works tho’ my record company laughed on the phone and said ‘oh really?'”

Gambino is currently finishing up dates on his Deep Web Tour.
