With only two months to go before it hits theaters, the upcoming musical has belted out its first official trailer.
Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker and Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood, “Jersey Boys” tells the equally legendary story of 1960s rock vocalist band The Four Seasons, led by Frankie Valli. It’s an adaptation of the Broadway hit of the same name, and based on the first trailer, the all-music all-the-time vibe remains very much in place.
The trailer spends equal amounts of time establishing the sound of the film, while also showing a healthy amount of story. As the trailer begins, it promises that everything “started with a sound that became a sensation — but every legend has a beginning.”
We see those beginnings as the four members of the Four Seasons come together: John Lloyd Young as lead singer Frankie Valli, Erich Bergen as keyboardist Bob Gaudio, Vincent Piazza as lead guitarist Tommy DeVito and Michael Lomenada as bassist Nick Massi. Don’t look away, and you’ll even catch a Christopher Walken sighting; he plays gangster Angelo “Gyp” DeCarlo.
Several of the Four Seasons’ greatest hits can be heard throughout the trailer, including “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” and “Who Loves You.” There will be even more classics when “Jersey Boys” bows in theaters on June 20.
