Coachella Attendee Dies After Collapsing At Festival

A 24-year-old woman has died after she collapsed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Kimchi Truong, of Oakland, died in an Indio, California, hospital on Thursday five days after collapsing. Police are still investigating whether drugs or alcohol were involved, and according to a statement on the Coroner’s website, t could take up to six weeks to determine the cause of death.

While it has not yet been confirmed, Coachella promoter Goldenvoice said the death was an “apparent drug overdose” in a statement on Friday (April 18).

“Last weekend, a festival attendee suffered an apparent drug overdose,” they said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “The individual was seen by on-site medical staff and later transferred to JFK Memorial Hospital and later to Desert Regional Medical Center. We are saddened to learn the individual has died. We believe this to be an unfortunate but isolated incident. Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends.”

Truong’s is the latest in a string of deaths at several major festivals across the country. Late last month, the mayor of Miami said he plans to prohibit Ultra Music Festival from returning to the city after a security guard was trampled and a 21-year-old died at the EDM event.

Last September, EZoo was canceled in New York City after two festival-goers died of Molly overdose.
