OutKast kicked off their anticipated reunion tour at Coachella this weekend, but the ATLiens weren’t the only artists who created special moments at the California festival. Headlining sets from artists like Nas, Chance the Rapper and Pharrell saw plenty of cameos, including Jay Z, Beyonce, Drake and even Justin Bieber. See the most unexpected cameos from Coachella weekend one.
Jay Z And Diddy Joined Nas During His Illmatic Retrospective
Nas’ iconic 1994 album Illmatic celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, so the Queens rapper brought out the big guns for his main stage performance on Saturday. He delivered the LP in its entirety, complete with a cameo from Jay Z, who performed “Dead Presidents” and “Where I’m From.” Even Diddy dropped in to perform their collaboration “Hate Me Now.”
Beyonce Did A Choreographed Dance With Solange
Why would Jay get to have all the fun? While her husband came out to mob with his one-rival, Nas, Beyonce showed up during her sister’s set, and it was hard to tell which one of them had more fun on stage. Bey joined Solo for “Losing You,” and although she’s not featured on the song that didn’t stop her from whipping it hard on stage. Big hair and huge smiles were in abundance.
Justin Bieber And Chance The Rapper Showed Off Their Best MJ Moves
Chance the Rapper’s frenetic live shows are entertaining enough without cameos, but might as well do it big for Coachella, right? The Chicago rapper had one of the biggest surprises of the weekend, summoning Justin Bieber to the stage halfway through his set for their collaboration on “Confident.” Hard to say which one of these two does a better Michael Jackson impersonation, but their energy was definitely through the roof. Bieber had so much fun that he even shared a clip from the set on Instagram.
Drake And Childish Gambino Showed Up To Support Jhenê Aiko
Jhenê Aiko has some pretty good friends in her corner. The Def Jam singer has collaborated with both Drake and Childish Gambino on recent tracks, so both rappers made time to come out and show some love. Gambino was first up, with an assist on “Bed Peace,” while Drake showed up and got very close for their Nothing Was the Same hit “From Time.”
Nelly, Snoop Dogg, Gwen Stefani And Busta Rhymes Crashed Pharrell’s Set
And that wasn’t even the full list. Tyler, the Creator and Diplo also made their way to the stage while P performed. Pharrell had plenty of material to run through solo, including “Happy,” Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” and, of course, “Blurred Lines,” but his friends showed up for the classics. Nelly dropped in for “Hot in Herre,” Busta and Diddy teamed up with “Pass the Courvoisier Pt. II,” Gwen Stefani came out for “Hollaback Girl” and Snoop treated the crowd to “Drop it Like it’s Hot.” Just in case you needed a reminded that Pharrell is a pretty popular guy.
Mary J. Blige Hit The Stage With Disclosure
The electronic duo has been selling out shows internationally, and when they touched down in Indio, California, they definitely brought a few friends along. In addition to cameos from Aluna George and Sam Smith, they even brought Mary J. Blige to the stage on Sunday, for a rendition of their collaboration “F For You.” Mary did it up in all-leather-everything.
Debbie Harry Wraps Things Up With Arcade Fire
Arcade Fire closed out the festival on Sunday night, with some help from Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry, who delivered her 1979 hit “Heart of Glass” and the group’s track “Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Moutains) along with lead singer Regine Chassagne.
