Coachella’s Warrior Goddesses: Mary J. Blige, Lana Del Rey, Little Dragon And Blondie Herself!

INDIO, California — Under a full moon, Sunday night at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was dominated by the powerful female, with heart-wrenching performances from Lana Del Rey and Little Dragon’s Yukimi Nagano and surprise appearances from none other than Mary. J. Blige and Blondie herself, Debbie Harry.

The fellas, even Justin Bieber — taking the stage in the middle of the afternoon in support of Chance the Rapper with “Confident” — got in on the action, with Jhené Aiko presenting the festival’s first appearance from Drake.

U.K. brothers Disclosure brought out Mary J. Blige for “F for You,” and also featured Aluna Francis (of AlunaGeorge, who performed earlier in the night) on “White Noise,” followed up by their smash “Latch,” with an appearance by Sam Shepard.

Elsewhere, the dance scene was handled by Duck Sauce, Calvin Harris, Big Gigantic and Laurent Garnier, who killed it in the beautiful Yuma building.

Beck brought it down at over at the main stage, and Arcade Fire’s theatrical Win Butler (always phenomenally backed by his wife, Régine Chassagne) wouldn’t let the festival’s official midnight curfew keep him from jumping into the audience after their perfect weekend-ending dance-up “Here Comes the Night Time” and “Wake Up” singalong.

Hard-rock fans would tell you if you didn’t see legendary metal pioneers MotÖrhead, you missed the festival. Slash was onboard for “Ace of Spades” and more, and drummer Mikkey Dee pummeled the crowd.

Coachella kicked off Friday with the reunion of OutKast. Saturday’s show included Lorde, alongside Pharrell, Nas, Skrillex, MGMT, Kid Cudi and Muse.
