Cody Simpson Gained A New Fanbase On ‘Dancing With The Stars’: ‘Old Ladies’

Many viewers were surprised when Cody Simpson was told it was time to hang up his dancing shoes after getting eliminated on

The pop singer, along with his partner Witney Carson, were the youngest couple ever to compete on “DWTS.” While Simpson showed off his impressive skills week after week in competition, he failed to gain the votes needed to advance to the next round.

However Simpson fans, don’t get too upset for your favorite Australian surfer, because he told MTV News, he’s doing just fine post elimination and that he “had a great ride.”

“I was surprised, I definitely have mixed feelings about it, there’s a certain disappointment that comes with being voted off,” Simpson said. “I was getting antsy, wanting to get back to work, wanting to get back to what I do, and it was the perfect amount of time to be on the show.”

The singer, who just released the video for his new single, is thrilled for having the opportunity to compete, since it gave him some new dancing techniques, a chance to meet some “great mates” and gain a new fan base.

“It’s definitely opened up my fanbase, I’ve had some old ladies come up to me and stuff and be like I voted for you,” Simpson said. “It’s kind of thrown me for a loop.”

Simpson admits that he is ready to leave the sequined costumes behind him, but will be tuning in on Monday nights to cast his vote ensure his favorite contestants stay in the race for the mirror ball trophy.

“I made some good mates, Charlie White is now a good mate of mine, who knew I would be good mates with an Olympic gold medalist ice skater, he’s awesome. Obviously Amy Purdy who is one of the most inspirational people I’ve ever met in my life,” Simpson said of the double amputee Paralympian. “I think many people feel about her, so I definitely think she will do well. She’s not only an amazing dancer, but an amazing human being.”
