Comic-Con 2013: 10 Most Anticipated Movies

San Diego Comic-Con is just days away, and MTV News could not be more excited to bring you all of the updates from the gathering of the world’s most dedicated fans. That’s why we’re bringing you seven hours of live streaming awesome right from the heart of SDCC starting at 2 p.m. ET Thursday (July 18.)

But before we head out to the West Coast, we thought we’d run down our list of the 10 movies we can’t wait to hear from in Hall H.

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”
The return of the first Avenger will supposedly take the form of a political thriller, as Captain Steve Rodgers faces off against a mysterious new foe that may have a link to his past. With only one official still and a teaser poster out there, we’ve got our fingers crossed while holding our replica red-white-and-blue shields, hoping for some footage.

“Godzilla”
The king of all monsters is making a big comeback next summer, and he’s got one hell of a crew bringing him back to the screen. Director Gareth Edwards made the stunning indie sci-fi flick “Monsters” and will lead a cast that includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and Bryan Cranston. That’s right. Next May, it’s Walter White versus Godzilla!

“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”
Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and the rest of the cast will be on hand in San Diego to present a brand-new trailer for the “Hunger Games” sequel, due out later this year. The first trailer, which debuted at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, knocked our super fancy Capitol socks off, so our hopes are high!

“Thor: The Dark World”
Of the two Marvel Studios movies officially scheduled to make Comic-Con appearances, the “Thor” sequel starring Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman is the one we know the most about. The first trailer gave us a good idea of the conflict this time around, but the plot synopsis promises a journey through the many realms, something we have yet to see.

“Divergent”
The young gun showing up to the competitive realm of Young Adult book adaptations is without a doubt “Divergent.” The film, which is based on the book by Veronica Roth, tells the story of a world divided into factions after a major near-apocalyptic event. It stars Shailene Woodley and Theo James.

“The Amazing Spider-Man 2”
After making a big impression at his first Comic-Con as Peter Parker, Andrew Garfield is returning to San Diego to introduce the world to his second go-around as the web-slinger, and he’s bringing a few friends with him. Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan and director Marc Webb are all scheduled to appear in Hall H.

“The Wolverine”
Hugh Jackman is getting another go at a standalone Wolverine movie after the less-than satisfying “X-Men: Origins,” and this time he means business. We’ve always been big fans of Jackman as the man with the adamantium claws, and “The Wolverine” is no exception.

What Surprises Do We Already Know About Comic-Con?

“The Mortal Instruments”
Fans can’t get enough of Cary, Jace and the rest of the shadow hunters, and putting the other YA newbie of Comic-Con at the heart of the fans in Hall H sounds like the perfect way to introduce everyone to the world of “The Mortal Instruments.”

“Gravity”
Alfonso Cuaron, the director of “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” has spent years perfecting the technology to bring this story of two astronauts stranded in space to the big screen. The film stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, and if the trailer is any indication, the thing is going to be freaking gorgeous.

“The World’s End”
Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and director Edgar Wright complete their Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy with this tale of a group of friends reuniting to finish the pub crawl that eluded them as young lads. The group always knows how to put on a show, so expect the same when they take the stage at Comic-Con this week.

MTV News has your San Diego Comic-Con updates live from the heart of it all, with panel reports, interviews and more news about your favorite movies, TV shows, games and comic books than you can handle. Catch our live stream starting Thursday, July 18 at 2 p.m. ET and continuing through Sunday.
