David Fincher’s ‘Gone Girl’ Trailer: Watch Now

David Fincher, the man who brought us “The Social Network” and “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” clearly knows a thing or two about how to make a riveting movie come together — and he’s just as adept when it comes to crafting memorable trailers.

The master makes no exception with the first trailer for his new movie, Based on the novel of the same name written by Gillian Flynn, “Gone Girl” centers on a man named Nick, played by Ben Affleck, who is forced to deal with the sudden and potentially violent disappearance of his wife, Amy, played by Rosamund Pike.

Nick’s grief over losing his wife soon gives way to some bizarre behavior, leading media and authorities to consider him a primary suspect in Amy’s disappearance.

If it sounds like a bit of an emotional roller-coaster, that’s because it is. That sensation of going from high to low is all over the “Gone Girl” trailer, with footage of Affleck’s Nick discovering clues to his wife’s whereabouts, shattered glass on his house floor, shaking his wife violently in a fit of rage, moved to tears at the thought of her disappearance — every emotion on the spectrum, from grief to rage, is covered here.

Speaking of covers, the trailer gets an assist from a cover of Charles Aznavour’s “She,” as performed by Richard Butler from Psychedelic Furs. It’s the perfect tone-setter for the haunting trailer.

“Gone Girl” hits theaters on October 3.
