Cher Lloyd knows a good collaboration when she hears it. That’s why she’s poised to appear on two potential summer smashes alongside Ne-Yo and Demi Lovato.
On Monday, fans got a taste of one of those tracks when Lovatics unlocked her self-titled May 14 album release ahead of schedule, getting the chance to stream “Really Don’t Care.”
When MTV News caught up with Lloyd on Tuesday (May 7), the former “X Factor” U.K. contestant told us the story behind the collaboration. Lloyd had the honor of meeting the “lovely” “X Factor” judge for the first time after her performance on the show, and a few months later she got a phone call asking her to jump on the Demi track.
“First of all, I love the song. Like, I really love the song,” Lloyd told us. “And I was very excited to put my kind of twist on it.”
Giving her pal a “yes” was fairly easy, considering she is a Lovatic herself. “I have ‘Skyscraper’ and I am constantly listening to it, and I can gladly say that it makes me tear up a little bit,” she said. “I mean, that girl can really sing, and it’s so different. That’s the thing, nowadays it’s so important to be able to be recognized and to be on the radio and for people to know automatically it’s you. And Demi has that and that’s something I really look up to.”
The 19-year-old singer shared that she and Lovato have a lot more in common than fans might initially realize. “And I think me and Demi are in some ways kind of similar,” she said. “We have quite a young fanbase, and this is very much a girl power song. You know, it has a great feel to it, and I’m so excited that people get to hear it now.”
Before long, the “Swagger Jagger” singer will release yet another duet, “It’s All Good,” with Ne-Yo. Fans can get in on the fun and submit content for the track on the Fruttare Fruit Bars Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #ItsAllGood through May 20.
The “Want U Back” singer and Ne-Yo are about to sit down and review all the material that could potentially make up the song, which will be released later this summer. “We’re just working towards getting a great summer vibe-y track going,” she said. “Me and Ne-Yo are very much in charge of this whole process, you know, the musical side of it. And, of course, there’s going to be a few willies out there that suggest some crazy stuff. The real fans are going to submit good stuff.”
The pair will perform the song at the iHeart Radio Music Festival in Las Vegas this September. And she has a feeling they’ll be great onstage together considering their similar personalities.
“I have a very cheeky attitude and Ne-Yo does too. He’s a cheeky chap,” she said. “I’m very excited for it to be done. Me and Ne-Yo have something really good up our sleeves.”
