Here’s the thing. There can only be one winner in the Best Lyric Video category at tonight’s 2014 MTV Video Music Awards. And, well, if you ask Demi Lovato, there are some very, very red, white and blue reasons why her fan-centric “Really Don’t Care” should beat Aussie opponent 5 Seconds Of Summer‘s “Don’t Stop.”
“I am an American, just throwing it out there,” Lovato reminded voters in her best effort at a ninth-hour stump speech. “The American VMAs deserve American winners. I’m standing up for my country.”
Not saying, but only one of these two includes their fans in their lyric video. (Cough, not 5SOS.)
It’s up to you to decide the winners of the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards! Vote now and tune in Sunday, August 24, at 9/8c ET to see who wins at the Forum in Inglewood, California. Plus, get the latest updates from all your favorite VMA artists on the MTV Artists App.
