Drake already has Toronto locked down with his annual OVO Fest, and now the YMCMB rapper is celebrating another one of his favorite cities — Houston, with a concert series he’s dubbed Houston Appreciation Weekend.
Drizzy posted the news on his Instagram account early Monday morning, writing, “Houston Texas! Dates Coming Soon…”
Fans know just how much Houston means to the Toronto native, who spent a considerable amount of his pre-fame days in the city, and first met Lil Wayne there. So Far Gone’s “November 18,” samples DJ Screw and is also the exact date that he met Weezy, in addition to the obvious shout out on “Houstonaltantavegas.”
On “No New Friends” he recently spit, “H-Town my second home like I’m James Harden,” and went as far as tattooing an “H” for Houston on his shoulder last year.
Nothing Was the Same also included multiple references on tracks like “Too Much,” where he raps, “Like H-Town in the summertime, I keep it 100/ Met a lot of girls in my times there/ Word to Paul Wall, not one fronted.”
Though Houston Appreciation Weekend would likely involve performers from outside of the city as well, some early predictions include hometown heroes like Bun B — who performed at OVO Fest in 2010 — Slim Thug, Paul Wall and Scarface.
Stay tuned for more details.
