Dumbledore Actor To Reteam With J.K. Rowling For New Miniseries

An upcoming TV miniseries adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s “The Casual Vacancy” has just announced its cast and a familiar face from Hogwarts is set to appear… sans wand, of course.

BBC One and HBO have announced (via Variety) the roster for the miniseries. “The Casual Vacancy” will star Michael Gambon, Keeley Hawes, Rory Kinnear, Monica Dolan, Julia McKenzie and Abigail Lawrie.

Fans of Rowling’s literary phenomenon will no doubt recognize Gambon’s name.

Beginning with “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” Gambon was tasked with the unenviable job of taking over the role of Dumbledore after the actor who originated the part, Richard Harris, died shortly after filming “Chamber of Secrets.”

Over the course of six films, Gambon crafted his own take on the Hogwarts headmaster, and it’s certainly exciting to see him working once again with Rowling’s writing.

“The Casual Vacancy” will be comprised of three one-hour segments. Production begins next month in England.
