Ed Sheeran Says New Music Coming In ‘January’

Ed Sheeran took to Twitter on Wednesday for an impromptu Q&A session in which he revealed plenty … including his favorite flavor of Ben & Jerry’s (Phish Food), go-to brands of toothpaste (Colgate or Aquafresh) and style of underwear (boxers, since he “needs space to breathe”).

More importantly, he also answered a few questions about his music, too. When asked by a fan when we’d get to hear something off his long-in-the-works follow-up to + — you know, the one he’s previously said would either be a or find him channeling his inner — Sheeran replied, rather matter-of-factly, “January.”

It’s not known if January is also when Sheeran plans on releasing his new album, though in recent interviews, he’s said that the disc will be out “early next year” and that he plans on spending October, November and December plotting its release. A spokesperson for his label, Atlantic Records, did not respond to MTV News’ request for comment on the matter by press time.

Sheeran also said that, though he’s been spending plenty of time in the U.S. in recent months as the opening act on Taylor Swift’s seemingly endless Red tour, he’s “definitely not” planning on moving to the States on a permanent basis (there was no update, however, on whether we’d ever get to hear the Swift song he has ).

And, reflecting back on his rather rapid rise to fame, Sheeran answered a fan’s question about his 2010 Loose Change EP, admitting that it represents a bleak period in his life, but has helped him become a star.

“It was written and recorded during a pretty bad time,” he said, “but led to lots of good things.”
