Eminem might not be the first person you’d expect to get sentimental on Mother’s Day, but he’s planning on doing just that.
On Friday (May 9), the Detroit native teased his “Headlights” video, posting an image on Instagram, as well as a short video clip, confirming that it will drop this Sunday. The timing is no coincidence. The Marshall Mathers LP 2 track is an apology from Em to his mother, Debbie Mathers, with whom he had a public feud for much of his career.
“But as stubborn as we are, did I take it too far, ‘Cleaning Out My Closet’/ And all them other songs, but regardless I don’t hate you/ ‘Cause ma, you’re still beautiful to me, ’cause you’re my mom,” he raps at one point. The theme recurrs throughout the song.
That post comes just a month after Em first revealed details about the video, back in April, when he posted a photo of himself and Spike Lee. The Academy Award-nominated Lee directed the video for the track, which also features Nate Ruess of fun.
